In response to Cas below. Nice PR stunt to cover up your totally dishonest behaviour. If this was an end of year special in June why wasn't it offered in the first place on 2nd June? Also why did Jackson Grech tell me on the phone that he had authority to override the quote provided by Michael just days before with absolutely NO mention of any "end of year" deals? Also why didn't Jackson respond to my email? Thanks for confirming that your sales tactics are completely fraudulent. This is utter and complete crap and BS. You wouldn't know the meaning of ethical behaviour so spare me the crocodile tears about your "standard". Feel sorry for people who accept your first quote thinking they've got a good deal.

Made an appointment to get a quote for new Roller Shutters. Michael visited on 2 June 2025 and wasted an hour of our time after arriving late trying to work out a quote after asking to come inside. All other suppliers spent 15 minutes and provided a quote without asking to come inside! He left when I told him we had another appointment without providing a quote. After a few failed attempts the quote finally arrived by text for $ 8,250 which we thought was ridiculous and said that to Jackson Grech when he made a follow up call some days later. He apologised for our experience and said he was in a senior management position, could overrule Michael's quote and would send us a better offer for our consideration when I said we couldn't even consider the ridiculous price on the original quote. He then sends a quote - "Updated proposal for roller shutters 571780" - for nearly half the price originally quoted so I wrote to him on 10 June 2025 as follows but still waiting for a response!
"Hi Jackson
I am gobsmacked by the markdown in your latest offer!
How can we trust your company if you were looking to rip me off with such a massive inflated price in the first place?
You guys are very dodgy, unprofessional and unethical in all your dealings and therefore cannot be trusted. Your sales BS and tactics are a complete turn off treating your customers like idiots.
So no thanks mate.

Eventually got exactly the same shutters at less than half the price from another supplier who were transparent, honest and professional in all their dealings with us and great with after sales service and any questions. The owner even spent a couple of hours setting up remote wifi access for us at no extra cost after the installation. We even ended up getting a second round of Shutters as we were so happy with the product. There's a few cowboys out there making people feel like they are getting big discounts and there's always a good deal on atm, blah blah blah so "Buyer Beware" indeed and do shop around.

We want to share our experience to help prevent others from going through the same thing.
Modern Group Newcastle took our deposit with no intention of doing the work. It was only after we paid that we were informed the company was going through a "restructure." We were never told this upfront.
This is completely unacceptable. We believe this was done in bad faith, and we’re now out of pocket as a result.
In difficult times, it’s heartbreaking to see companies taking advantage of hardworking families who are already struggling.
We strongly advise against using Modern Group or any of its associated businesses.

Good experience with this business, contacted them because a friend had just had her roller blinds undated and she recommended them. Was contacted and kept updated with quotes and anticipated installation dates via phone and email by the very helpful Melanie Kies and also had a serviceman call next time he was in Victoria and a quote emailed within a reasonable amount of time. Roller blinds installed quickly and are operating really well, so much so that I placed a second order for another roller blind. That too was delivered and installed in a timely manner by the very obliging Tom.

I ordered plantation shutters for my kitchen to replace the existing blinds.
Wow what a difference. The kitchen is located on the west side, very hot in summer.
The blind cut out the light & breeze. I can control both by moving the blades.
They look fabulous.
Customer service was outstanding. The quote was competitive, quality great and everyone I dealt with were amazing and kept me informed.

I cannot believe it has taken over 4 months since my first meeting with this company to get two plantation shutters.
I was given the impression that it was a small family business that took pride in their products.
I have encountered the rudest lady in speaking and trying to get accurate information regarding my installation.
Then a very nice fellow called Troy , came and installed the two shutters , only to find one had been made incorrectly and needed to be remade ? adjusted.
I have now had three attempts at someone coming to install the altered shutter.
It seems the people.that make the appointments dont communicate with the installers.
Communication is very poor , and Diane has a very rude approach to customer service.
You get told they will ca you back , never to hear from them.
That's after they collect your money !
DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY , YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM.
I regret my decision and would not recommend anyone to deal with them.
I was very happy with installation of my first two roller shutters that after a week I ordered them for all 16 windows. The installation went smooth from start to finish. I had no complaints with the workmanship, the installers were very clean and tidy. And best part is the difference it makes in the house, I don't have to run my heating for hours as it keeps the house warm.

External roller shutters installed approximately 5-6 years ago. The paintwork is now bubbling. However that’s not my complaint. One blind was repaired a year or so ago some small cog which has gone again. The blind is stuck down. After 4-5 weeks of calling modern group/impulse several times for service, after apologies and being told someone will call no one has contacted. I gave up and called Ben from roller shutter pro who will be today. Once they have installed buyer beware. This group is also Bramalco who put on my tin roof 12-15 years ago and that has never stopped leaking. Go somewhere else!!
Modern called me seeking to offer shutter services. I said, sure come on over. They measured. I advised them install would be in the summer or autumn not now then waited for the quote. They didn't send one. Now, I am told, their model is to quote high, offer discounts and then pressure close. They had no op to do that and so, I gather they didn't see any point in quoting. I wouldn't waste your time with this company.
Modern Group have installed 2 blinds in our alfresco 3 weeks ago, I do recommend them for their professional approach and service provided, John the installer was very professional and friendly, we are very happy with the service we received. see attached photos.

Scam phone call. Asked how he got my number and he hung up after reading from a script trying to say he wanted my house on display 😅 very sad
Don't waste your time getting a quote from this group. Unless you are immune to hard sell tactics and like a laugh, avoid as the process is quite uncomfortable. I don't normally review unless I actually purchase a product, however, I think this is necessary to help buyers avoid what happened to me. I am a strong independent woman and I almost fell prey to these tactics.
I had the WA representative arrive at my house for a measure and quote, what should be an hour maximum turned into 2.5hrs of hard sell. No physical written quote at the end and a stream of sales pitches like, only available now, 50% discount, the requirement to advertise for them with a sign out front for 16 weeks to get the 'discount' and a constant hard sell, including a call to his 'boss' to get a further discount, to buy what looks like a decent product, but is overpriced for what it is, in fact double the price of competitors quotes. They are Australian made and that is worth something but not double the price.
I was not financially in a position to spend 12K on blinds, my budget was half that, and the hard sell almost had me signing up using a payment plan which thankfully needed paperwork from me that I did not have time to do at the time and said I would do later. My get out of free jail card, thank goodness.
I had difficulty getting the salesman to leave and I was made to feel very uncomfortable for expressing my concern at investing so much money. He kept saying, I hear you, but he didn't, he was after a sale and had no qualms about signing me up for something I was obviously not comfortable with. I live in a nice but simple home, not in the prestige suburbs in a multimillion dollar house and this kind of expense would have been over capitalising.
Please save yourself the stress and 3 hours of your time that you will never get back, and avoid this company. There are plenty of other providers for plantation shutters, many offering good quality products, decent salesmen who know their product and offer a quote without the hard sell.
Ecostar is a company I will never recommend anyone to deal with customer service is always unavailable never returned my calls. I had my foundation done and there were several things that were not completed fail to follow their own guidelines and scope of work. I still haven't received my warranty for the work completed they ruined my flower bed and was really anxious to show me company is not responsible for the damage this was negligence on thier behalf they threw dirt and rocks
on top of my plants and destroyed them. I hope no one has to experience what I experience with this company. Watch out!
They were all good until I enquired about the loyalty rewards , was horrible they never gave me any answer back after I referred them to two friends of mine .. I called them several times and the customer service was shocking . I never refer them to anyone I know !!!!
I have my whole house windows (8 in all) installed with plantation shutter in Jan 2022 and was told that they were all made and manufactured in Australia. Since I want Australian made product because I know that they will be of high quality and standard, I agreed to purchase them after I was given a discount due to New Year sale. The sales person and the installer were all nice and professional. When it was installed, I noticed that the window flaps were not in uniformed when closing. I was told that they would align later after sometime after closing and opening them on a regular basis because the one that I purchased has no handle. The salesman recommended it because I was told that once a handle is broken, the window shutter will no longer close properly. After several months, I called up the installer who told me to call the Service Department but to no avail. Last call made was Sep 2023. I would even response to some of your offer in email and even attached a sample picture but to no avail. So I said to myself, I will never ever recommend your Company to anybody until my problem is fixed.
I called on the back of their 40% sales promotion. Woman I spoke to on the phone was lovely. That’s where it ended. Sales person was rude to the point of treating me like I knew nothing about my own home. He then did his little calculations and it was nearly double all other quotes. Then came the discount which brought it closer to others. He said I could also get the finance with no background or credit checks for a total cost of $90 on 36 months. I told him I wasn’t making a decision that day. So he did the fake call to his boss - I wasn’t budging. He even said he would wait around the corner until I made a decision. At that point I asked him to leave. Reading other reviews this seems to be a common practice with this company - terrible!
Recently had a whole new roofing job done on my home due to hail damage, had our solar electric & hot water systems replaced as part of this.
We were all happy with what we thought was an awesome job... until it rained !
We had water pouring inside our house from one end of our kitchen to the other, running down our walls, wetting all of our hard wood floors, pouring all over our fridge. We had water running down our bathroom doorway, swelling the doorway itself & the door, this has all been ruined. Its wet insulation, plaster, skirtings, done heaps of damage.
We have been renovating our home slowly for several years now, when we've had the money, & had only just had our bathroom renovated, it now looks terrible... Doorway & Door is ruined from water damage, there is now mould all over the roof, the plaster is swollen and has large nail/screw indents in it from the roof they have put on above it.
We rang & told them we have water coming in our house everywhere, they need to fix it before it wrecks our house, they didn't even come out straight away, it took them week... several phone calls later & 2 or 3 inspections of our roof.. it was discovered, eventually, that someone had dragged the new solar water system across the new roof & caused splits in the Colourbond in several places. It was also running down the pipes on the Solar Water system straight into our roof above our bathroom wetting everything.
So, once this was discovered they then got straight into it, fixed the pipes & replaced the sheets on our roof thankfully, but still to this day they have Not, after several phone calls & emails come back to repair the damage this caused in our actual house & I dont have the money to fix it. So yeh Thanks Guys, Dodgy As !
They were happy to take the thousands of dollars, & I mean thousands, to do our roof, as it was an Insurance Job for a legitimate repair job, but they did us alright.
As if people don't have enough money issues & worries with today's living & then you have to deal with grubs like this.
People do your research & do not use this business, not worth the stress

You should know that the 40% off sale EXCLUDES white plantation shutters. Typical. The most popular product is EXCLUDED from their sale. They quoted me $24,000 for shutters for my lowset three bedroomed home eg 7 windows, then they went through all sorts of “sales strategies” to bring the price down to $12,000 if I agreed to signage in my front yard for 3 months. I made the mistake of paying a $1200 deposit which they wouldn’t return when I attempted to cancel only 45 MINUTES after the saleswoman left my home as I realised it was way overpriced compared to most other reputable company’s. $6-8,000 is the average quote I’ve had since then.
Modern Group refused to refund my deposit. One more thing If you want to take advantage of their credit facilities, you won’t get the sale price either. Shonky sales practices. BEWARE. I feel robbed.
I wish I’d checked their reviews first - I usually do 🤦♀️. If I had seen all the negative reviews, that “saleswoman” would never have put her stiletto heel over my doorstep. Please always check reviews FIRST - I’m learning the hard way.
I chose Modern Group because they are SA based and I am an ex-pat. Our blinds were installed just over 12 months ago. The rechargeable electric buttons no longer hold a charge, take 24hrs to recharge (minimum). There is a problem with one blind and Modern were quick to point out that accidental damage wasn't covered and it would cost several hundred dollars just to turn up and look at the broken one and several thousand if the blind itself needed replacing.
Like other reviews there were horrible pressure tactics by the salesman who rapidly assessed the depth of our pockets, and the discount was only valid at the time of the sales visit. I've pulled it apart myself to fix it but thus far haven't worked out how the internal motor switches from up to down. There might be a community page for that and Modern refused to provide the technical documents to help me fix it. The installer didn't line everything up neatly, blamed it on the structure. Drilled holes and didn't fill them. Lots of excuses, didn't clean up after themselves thoroughly. Over-priced, over-rated, poor form, well below expectations from a local company, consider spending elsewhere.
Worst experience we have ever had with a sales person!
Talk about a no obligation quote. Salesman tried everything under the sun to get us to sign and didn’t want to leave until we signed. Put a massive discount from their original well over priced quote. Started at 38k dropped down to 15k. Salesman was there for 2 hrs until we told him to leave. Would not give us time to think about it, offer was only valid right then and there.
Do not invite this company into your home.
