The General Tarleton (..or as we like to call it, The GT) is a re-established 18th century coaching inn with a ‘local and luxury’ personality. Nestled in the stunning North Yorkshire Countryside, The General Tarleton caters all four seasons. From a summer spritz on the sun-drenched terrace, to fine dining in Ralphs; the formal, yet cosy, dining. Step inside to greet open fires set on warm flag stone floors. The country chic decor creates your home from home where friends can meet for a bottle (...or two) and let lazy afternoons spill into evenings. Wander outside and enjoy walled herb gardens leading up to alfresco dining. Watch the sun go down on our comfy lounge chairs and put the world to right. The local area boasts some of the country’s most scenic walks, bike trails and bustling historic towns of Harrogate and Knaresborough. So, what are you waiting for? Explore! Too far for a taxi? The GT also offers a luxurious night’s rest in one of our 15 cosy rooms with beds so insanely comfortable you might sleep through check out. So, whether you’re a looking for your next country escape, a bit of a foodie or have a penchant for tapas and champagne, the GT experience is one of quality but with a down-to-earth approach. The General Tarleton…

We visited The General Tarleton to celebrate our 4-year anniversary, and it exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel special with a thoughtful anniversary card signed by the staff.

The food was outstanding—easily some of the best Yorkshire has to offer—and the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of charm. The combination of exceptional food, attentive and friendly staff, and the beautiful, quaint setting made for a truly memorable evening.

A fantastic experience from start to finish. We couldn't have chosen a better place to celebrate. Highly recommended!

Faultless

Absolutely faultless experience.
Tastefully executed refurbishment has resulted in a warm, cosy and classy environment.
Staff are friendly and efficient while the food is wonderful. The soufflé starter is perfect and the steak pie is delicious.
Nothing to criticise from us. We will be back.

What’s not to Love about the GT

What’s not to Love about the GT. Friday was our second visit for a birthday treat. Food was delicious - so tasty and both soufflé’s are a dream. I would not normally choose a soufflé for dessert but so glad I did. Staff are fabulous - no complaints whatsoever! Looking forward to seeing what they will do for a Christmas Menu.

Firstly the refurbishment is good and…

Firstly the refurbishment is good and the staff are very pleasant.
The food is very average and too costly. The worst coffee I have ever tasted. The wooden chairs have no cushions and are not comfortable.
Unpleasant experience.
12% service added is wrong. You should have an option.
As a local we shall not be returning.

Great refurbishment, great food and great service

This is a lovely pub/restaurant with gorgeous rooms should you want to stay.

The refurb has been done to a high standard and is in keeping with the building. A lovely feel to the bar area and the restaurant is perfect.

Food is excellent and the service is very impressive.

Will be heading back there very soon.

Refurbishment

Been here a few times before, fantastic reputation, very much looking forward to seeing The Gt reopen after its refurbishment. Glad to hear the Terrace is being put to good use.
