We have communicated directly with you to give you more background on Abundance's due diligence process and our role in relation to the companies you have invested in. While we very much appreciate the concern and disappointment when an investment runs into difficulty and leads to a financial loss for our investors, it is the nature of the investments we offer that there is a risk of capital loss, and we make this clear across our platform and before an investor makes their investment.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about your experience investing with Abundance - we're sorry to hear of your disappointment in your experience investing with us.

We have always maintained rigorous due diligence procedures to ensure that the company investments offered on our platform meet the highest standards of transparency, legality and financial sustainability - that level of due diligence has not changed. Our extensive due diligence is done in advance of a company raising funding through Abundance and typically takes months to complete. However our due diligence process does not mitigate the risks that can affect an investment - so we make sure there are clear risk warnings throughout the process of choosing to invest on Abundance.

One of your investments has recently been extended (with the approval of investors), with the hope that the additional time can lead to a full repayment for investors. Please get in touch with our support team if you have any questions about your company investments.

As well as our company investments offered in the past, we are now focused on offering council investments which are lower risk for investors while still having the positive social and environmental impact.

We have always maintained rigorous due diligence procedures to ensure that the company investments offered on our platform meet the highest standards of transparency, legality and financial sustainability - that level of due diligence has not changed. Our extensive due diligence is done in advance of a company raising funding through Abundance and typically takes months to complete. However our due diligence process does not mitigate the risks that can affect an investment - so we make sure there are clear risk warnings throughout the process of choosing to invest on Abundance.

There is no doubt that the last 5 or so years have been very challenging for many businesses, including those companies that have raised money on Abundance. We have seen those companies that had recently raised funding and were still building when the pandemic struck hit particularly hard. It was not so much the immediate challenges of the first lockdown, but those created by subsequent lockdowns and the aftermath as economies around the world got back to work – leading to severe shortages of some materials and labour, in turn driving higher prices (sometimes 20-30% higher and more). Russia’s war in Ukraine and Brexit added to rising prices (the war particularly impacted energy prices) giving no reprieve to those companies already hit by the constraints the pandemic created. Investors in those companies have unfortunately suffered as a result.

We have worked, and will continue to, to support all of the companies funded on Abundance that have struggled in recent years, but our role is limited. As an investment platform only, our role once an investment has closed is largely an administrative one, and we do not manage the businesses or have a direct oversight role or a role in the recovery efforts where a company has run into difficulties - this is led by the directors of the businesses or an administrator where the company has been placed into administration.

On Abundance you can choose to invest in two categories of investment - higher risk investments from companies, or lower risk investments from councils, as you say. Hi Mr Haigh,

I'm sorry to hear you had some issues making your first investment with Abundance. I know we have since messaged directly, but I just wanted to reply here as well to some of your other points.

We do require a photo ID as part of our identity verification process which is a standard requirement for banks/financial services as part of our regulatory requirements to help prevent financial crime.

Deposits to your Abundance account will take up to 1 working day to be processed (but usually quicker), which we do mention at the point of making the payment but I will pass your feedback on to the team to see if we can make that clearer in our messaging before payment.

You can make a withdrawal request outside of our office hours through your Abundance account - there is no time restriction on making a withdrawal request. A withdrawal will take up to 1 working day to be processed but usually quicker, and we have processed your withdrawal today.

I have passed your feedback on to our platform development team so we can look to make the deposit process quicker and clearer going forwards.
