Crap
Crap. when you want to pay over the phone theyve gone from having a human process it to an automated system. Because i had a new card even thoug h i was entering my details correctly, the system was telling me itwas declined and the agsnt blamed my bank when it was amex not recognising thei r own account details. I find this quite incredible that despiteentering the correct 3 digits, i was being locked out of my eye account. The agent because i was getting stressed over it started getting shirty so the chances of me ever using my card again, nada

I bought a train ticket to visit my children in London. Due to the fire next to Glasgow Central all trains were cancelled for a week. I disputed the fare and Amex refunded me. Trainline proved to Amex the made the ticket available so should be paid. Amex reversed thier decision and recharged me. I called Amex to complain and explained to them, 'I paid for a service I did not receive, whether the tickets were made available or not, I COULD NOT USE THEM' So a company proves to you they issued me a train ticket. I cannot use that train ticket because all trains were cancelled from Glasgo Central Station due to a fire. What use is a ticket I cannot use??????????? I paid for a service which I did not receive. How can you allow them to take my money????????? I will be running you off on social media. You have been warned. I will say this again. I paid for a service I did not recieve. Crazi I know

This is possibly the worst company I've ever experienced, I made a purchase on booking.con via amex travel when I went through to payment it somehow switched hotel so I cancelled straight away. It's been 2 months 30+ customer service agents 3 dispute cases, mountain of evidence and they still say it isn't proof so now I am forking out 400 quid which I have not used
AVOID THIS COMPANY
Terrible terrible - do not bother - you get nothing for the money spent
Terrible terrible - spend nearly 50,000 and and BA offered me 150
Off a flight worth 2000. DO NOT BOTHER Getting THIS CARD
Dreadful
Dreadful - avoid at all costs I was approved for a British Airways AMEX card, attracted by the avios promo, however the credit limit was so low that I would never have been able to achieve the required £6k in 3 month spend without constantly paying off the card. Also research indicates the companion vouchers are practically useless due to low availability of flights - Not worth the £500 fee but make sure you ditch the card within 14 days of receiving it otherwise you get charged regardless. Terrible customer service too - avoid at any cost
Extremely disappointing experience as a…
Extremely disappointing experience as a merchant.
American Express appears to make it far too easy for customers to initiate chargebacks, even where services have been fully provided, payments were authorised, and evidence has been supplied. As a locksmith business, we have encountered situations where customers receive the service requested, regain access to their property, request invoices and VAT information afterwards, and then proceed with chargebacks.
The burden placed on merchants to defend legitimate transactions is excessive, while customers seem able to dispute charges with very little supporting evidence.
This creates an environment where chargebacks can be abused as a tool to avoid paying for services that have already been completed.
Businesses deserve protection too. There should be a fair balance between protecting cardholders and protecting honest merchants who have delivered the service paid for.
Based on our experience, we have serious concerns about accepting American Express payments in the future.
Amex is absolutely the worst…
Amex is absolutely the worst credit/charge card company in the world and I have dealt with at least 50 different banks around the world .
I have a platinum business charge card that they charge me about £600/ annum for . It’s good for absolutely nothing at all . I only got it because my colleagues wrongly recommended it for the points you accumulate that can be used for travels , hotels etc . That is a lie too . If you count how much you’re paying every year and how much your points are worth you end up realising the day light robbery happening totally legally.
I recently purchased cheap bracelets from a company online that started charging my card each month for no reason whatsoever. It was obviously a fraud . A quick look at their reviews on trust pilot reveals that this has happened to numerous people around the globe .
However when I raised the issue with them there was no personal account manager ( as they state on their ads ) no priority, nothing just completely ignorant advisors that have no clue about rules and regulations.
After a wait of over 6 weeks and numerous calls later they wrote that this company , namely blissbury.co has written to them and stated that I have purchased further items without providing any details or tracking number etc
Furthermore they have provided my business and home address to Amex to strengthen their fraud . I mean you have to be very intellectually challenged to believe them because they provided you with my address . These details were provided to them obviously during my first purchase .
Bearing in mind that I spend at least £40-£60 K per year with this card and the disputed amount was for £21 X 2 , you would think they would be more inclined to help their customers but No they did not . I have now asked for a final letter to take it to court and they don’t even understand what final letter is ? These people are world wide providers of charge cards and they don’t get simple requests .
Please people stay away from them . We have to collectively take action to stop these unscrupulous companies .
My experience with American Express UK…
My experience with American Express UK has been very disappointing.
After returning a faulty item worth over £2,000, the refund was credited back to my Amex card, leaving a positive balance. I contacted American Express and requested that the balance be transferred to my bank account.
Several days later, I received an email stating that the refund had been issued to the source bank account. This strongly suggested that the money had already been sent. However, the funds did not arrive. When I contacted customer service again, I was told that it could still take up to 10 further days after that email for the money to reach my account.
This is unacceptable. The wording of the email is misleading because it gives the impression that the transfer has already been completed, while in reality the customer may still be left waiting for many more days. For a refund of this size, the process should be clear, fast and properly explained.
The app also does not update reliably, which makes it even harder to track what is actually happening with the account balance and refund status.
Overall, the refund process feels outdated, slow and poorly communicated. Combined with limited card acceptance in many shops and a cashback system that is less useful in practice than it appears, the card no longer offers enough value to justify the inconvenience.
After this experience, I have lost confidence in American Express and will be cancelling my card.
Misleading Bonus Eligibility Process
American Express approved my Gold card application with a 40,000-point welcome bonus, then refused to award the points after I met the spending requirement because I'd previously held an Amex card 23 months and 12 days earlier - just 18 days short of the 24-month eligibility rule.
If Amex knows your account history, why not tell customers at application that they're ineligible for the bonus? We would have simply waited two weeks before applying.
We specifically planned our summer travel with these points in mind, so finding out after meeting the spending requirement has completely disrupted those plans.
Long-term customer, multiple referrals, and a completely inflexible response to our complaint, hiding behind small-print terms they could easily have flagged during the application process. Extremely disappointing and now being referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

If I could give no star I would but I…
If I could give no star I would but I see this is a very common theme
I paid in full my card and then they cut my credit which is okay it happens but then they reported me to the credit score saying that I had defaulted on my payments which is a complete lie so they have affected my credit score which they don’t care at all just saying sorry doesn’t make up for anything
And then they said they would give me a refund saying that I had paid more then I should.
They issued the refund just for them to charge me the same amount and making me go over my limit and in the process destroying my credit
Personally I suffer from anxiety and depression just for me to have this company for no apparent reason at all to savagely come after me like this because yes I am taking this personally
I need legal help because these big companies can’t come and destroy peoples life just because they have the power
And I have all the conversations and emails to back this up
First time ever I received an interest…
First time ever I received an interest charge on a small amount outstanding as I had partly paid the balance but was informed by Amex that the interest charge is calculated in the full amount at statement date regardless of you paid most of the balance before the due date.
My payments are normally direct debit but because I had switched from platinum card (very expensive annual fees) to gold card I had to reset the direct debit even though the person who did the switch for me did not inform me to do such thing. Eventually a customer service person agreed on my issue and refunded the interest charge but in between when I had made an official complaint via email few weeks ago for which I only received a reply today denying that Amex had done anything wrong and inclining that the person who had done the refund was a goodwill gesture and reading through the email I felt that they should not have refunded the monies. Extremely poor service from Amex complaints department. I have been an Amex customer for number of years and have never defaulted in payments .
Misleading Advertising
My experience involving both American Express and British Airways has been extremely disappointing, mainly due to the so-called “reward” or companion voucher that is jointly promoted by both companies.
The benefit is continuously advertised as a valuable reward, creating the expectation that it can be reasonably used for flights. However, in reality, trying to redeem this reward is frustrating and often impossible. Availability is extremely limited, options are heavily restricted, and in many cases the reward is simply not usable in practice. This feels misleading, as the product does not deliver what is promised at the time of sign-up and spending.
What makes the situation worse is the complete lack of accountability between the two companies. Since the reward is connected to both American Express and British Airways, each side seems to redirect responsibility to the other. As a customer, you are left without a clear answer or solution.
Customer service from both sides has also been very poor. Instead of receiving support, I was met with generic responses, long wait times, and a clear lack of willingness to resolve the issue. It feels like neither company is genuinely interested in fixing the problem or honouring the benefit they advertise.
Overall, this has been a frustrating and disappointing experience. When a reward is marketed jointly, both companies should take responsibility for delivering it — unfortunately, that has not been the case here. I would strongly advise others to carefully consider before relying on these advertised benefits.
American Express Preferred Rewards Gold…
American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card Review – After 8 Years of Use
I've held the American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card since 2018, and it's one of the few financial products I've kept year after year because I genuinely get value from it.
The biggest attraction initially was that the first year was completely free, allowing me to try the card and its benefits without any risk. After the first year, the annual fee is currently £195, which means you do need to make use of the benefits to justify keeping it. For me, that's never been difficult.
One of the benefits I use regularly is the Deliveroo credit. Cardholders receive £5 back twice per month, giving up to £120 back per year if fully utilised. If you already use Deliveroo, this alone offsets a large proportion of the annual fee.
The airport lounge benefit is another standout feature. The card includes Priority Pass membership with four complimentary airport lounge visits each year. Whether travelling for business or leisure, having somewhere quiet to sit, grab food and drinks, and avoid the crowded terminal makes a noticeable difference to the travel experience. I've found this particularly useful on longer journeys and during flight delays.
What has impressed me most over the years, however, is American Express customer service. Whenever I've needed assistance, whether for a disputed transaction, a replacement card, or a general enquiry, I've always been able to speak to someone knowledgeable who resolves the issue quickly. Compared with many mainstream banks, the service feels considerably more personal and efficient.
The purchase and refund protection offered by American Express is also excellent and provides real peace of mind when making larger purchases. Knowing that you have an additional layer of protection beyond standard retailer policies is reassuring, particularly when buying expensive items or booking travel. The claims process is generally straightforward, and this is one area where American Express has consistently maintained a strong reputation.
Membership Rewards points are another reason I've continued to hold the card. Points accumulate on everyday spending and can be transferred to airline and hotel loyalty programmes or redeemed in several other ways. Over the years I've redeemed points for flights, upgrades and travel-related rewards that I would not otherwise have purchased.
No card is perfect. Not every retailer accepts American Express, although acceptance is far better today than it was when I first took the card out in 2018. The £195 annual fee also means it isn't a card to leave sitting in a drawer unused.
Overall, after eight years of ownership, I would still recommend the American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card to anyone who travels occasionally, uses Deliveroo, values strong customer service, and wants excellent purchase protection. The first year free offer makes it easy to try, and if you use the benefits properly, the ongoing fee can be more than justified.
Great service so far
I have taken out a credit card due to poor service by other Credit card issuers.
I applied it arrived and I was able to use it the next day .I had a slight issue in the application due to an error I made and they answered the phone had full command of the English language and were able to assist.
App easy to install and use I will probably have issues in the future but they at least pay interest and are far better than at least 4 other providers all of whom don't pay interest Very impressed so far
A joke for business cards - avoid
Recently signed up for a business card under a promotional offer. Multiple mistakes made during application process - slow and painful process. Once card arrived it was then almost impossible to use. Multiple issues - multiple different calls to amex, often being given wrong information. Completely unclear how spending works. As a result was locked out of two important sites where we need to use to buy business goods because of incorrect information given by AMEX. Massive waste of time. Terrible voice menu that's almost impossible to navigate through. Bad website. Much better digital business card options out there. Save your time and use another service
I have been an American Express…
I have been an American Express Platinum customer for several years, but a recent experience has left me extremely disappointed.
At some point, a second supplementary card was issued for my wife, despite her already having a supplementary card on the account. We never received this additional card, were unaware it existed, and it was never activated or used.
I only discovered the issue after noticing a supplementary card fee on a recent statement. Upon querying this with the Platinum customer service team, they were able to confirm that the card had never been used and acknowledged that no benefit or service had been received from it. I was advised that the fees should be refunded and was told to monitor my account for the credit.
After waiting and seeing no refund, I contacted American Express again and had to explain the entire situation from the beginning. I was then informed that the matter had been reviewed internally and a decision had been made not to refund the charges. The reasoning given was that checking for these fees was ultimately my responsibility as the customer.
What is particularly frustrating is that no one communicated this decision to me, and I received nothing in writing. More importantly, American Express has chosen to retain four years' worth of fees for a supplementary card that was never received, never activated, and never used.
As a long-standing customer, I find this disappointing and inconsistent with the level of service I would expect from a premium card provider. Charging for a service that provided no benefit and then refusing to rectify the situation has seriously damaged my trust in the brand.
If you are considering an American Express card, I would strongly recommend carefully evaluating whether the annual fees represent genuine value for your circumstances. My experience has shown that even when an error is acknowledged, obtaining a fair resolution is far from guaranteed.
For me, this experience has been enough to take my business elsewhere.
Why are there no good reviews for Amex
Why are there no good reviews for Amex? The answer is in the question - it does NO GOOD. This is a shabbily run sub prime card whose business model is derived from grabbing fees; from a business from a consumer it does not matter. Poor service and an attempt to charge at every turn. The only reason people use these cards is for reward. Look closer its a scam!
So not surprising you have a 1 star…
So not surprising you have a 1 star average. 5 days with no working card! Amex is a joke!
Awful customer service
Awful customer service, been with them for 20 years and they suspended my second cardholder for a security check - they were supposed to login to their account to verify their identity but couldn't as its my account, they are only a second cardholder - well done in driving away a 20 year customer
In my opinion they are dishonest.
I have been trying to resolve a S.75 claim with Amex for nearly two years.
They continually put in place barriers to try to frustrate the process. Send them the shoe size of the merchant who sold the item, they want his mother's maiden name.
In addition to which, they claim not to have received evidence. So I re-send it with a screen shot of the original email and they say "oh yes, so you did. But you still haven't provided us with evidence regarding what the prevailing weather conditions were on the day of purchase."
I spend a 6-figure sum on my Amex each year, but they are so awful I may bin them. In my opinion they are dishonest.
