awful & overpriced
I recently booked the Sky Vie Aqua Shard 3-course dinner for my boyfriend’s birthday, hoping for a special and memorable evening. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing, especially given the high cost of £377 for the meal.
From the start, the food did not meet expectations. Our starter was a few burnt pieces of octopus swimming in a strong vinegar sauce that was supposed to be orange sauce, accompanied by some boiled egg bits—it was far from appetising. My boyfriend’s carpaccio was passable, but that was one of the few acceptable dishes we had. The main event, which I ordered as veal, turned out to be raw meat—likely venison—served with a bitter sauce and grainy mashed potatoes that were not blended properly. The accompanying ham or bacon was dry, and the vegetables were a hard leaf of romaine cabbage smothered in cheese.
My partner’s halibut was decent, but overall the dishes seemed like they were made by different chefs without any cohesion. The only positives were the bread which can’t make up for the poorly prepared food. I ended up hungry and had to rely on cocktails to mask the bad taste, and I couldn’t even bring myself to eat dessert after such an experience.
For what was billed as a Michelin-guide-worthy dinner, this was an overpriced and regrettable evening. I paid quietly to avoid embarrassing my boyfriend, but I truly feel this meal did not deliver on any level. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously, and I would not recommend this dinner to others looking for quality or value.
