I had a very disappointing experience with ARC IT Recruitment on a senior contract role.

After three interview rounds, ARC contacted me to say that the client wanted to offer me the position. From that point onward, however, the communication became extremely poor.

The process dragged on for almost three weeks after the offer was presented. Updates that I was told to expect did not arrive, and I repeatedly had to chase ARC myself to understand what was happening. At one point I specifically called to ask whether anything had changed with the role and was told that nothing material had changed and that discussions were still ongoing.

Eventually, after yet another follow-up from me, ARC sent a very brief and vague message saying the client was “going another route”. There was no proper explanation of what had changed or why a process that had already reached offer stage had suddenly ended.

I subsequently received clarification directly from the client that they had ultimately decided to proceed with another candidate.

I have no issue whatsoever with a client choosing somebody else. What I find unacceptable is the way ARC managed the process. If I had not repeatedly chased for updates, I genuinely question when, or whether, I would have been told what was happening.

For a recruitment agency managing senior-level roles, I expected much better communication, transparency and candidate management. Being told you have an offer and then spending weeks chasing the agency before receiving a vague rejection is not a professional candidate experience.
