I use Avis, Nikola Tesla airport, for all of my rental vehicles. I frequently visit Serbia and i only recommend Avis and budget to any traveler looking for a rental car.
I always book through booking.com - I always get the added insurance and I never once have had any problems. The team at the booking desk are friendly, professional, well trained and well put together people.
The cars are always new, in good condition and always well equipped.
They have a car for every budget and every purpose.
Like all car rental companies, the deposit reserved on your payment card may seem high at first, but what do you expect? What you get for your money is fantastic and I have never had any problems getting my deposit back, promptly and in full - zero stress.

I have used other rental car companies available at Nikola Tesla airport, but none of them compare to the Avis fleet and team.

AVOID AT ALL COST !!! I've booked a vehicle with Avis to collect from Belgrade Airport, Serbia for 17 days in March/April 2026. On check in, I did not receive a usual document with the drawing of the car and existing damages, instead that was a very vague list of the existing damages unclear of which damage exactly is being referred to. On collection, car itself was very dirty and it was difficult to tell dirt marks from actual scratches. I've returned a car 17 days later only to be charged and extortionate amount for a single scratch (nearly 700 euros!!!). They've asked me to sign to acknowledge returning the car and the new found damages, but little did I know, that at the same time I was signing to agree to cover this whole amount in damages even I told the agent in charge of the check out that I don't agree with most of these charges. They've then told me to take any disputes with their head office which I did and HO have dismissed my dispute almost instantly.
The charges were:
- Damage recovery (400 euros), I've asked for two independent quotes from car mechanics in Serbia and they both came under 180 euros to remedy the damage so I was more then double-charged for the actual damage recovery.
- Vehicle idling charge - which was supposed to cover the time needed to repair the damage and during which the car cannot be re-used/rented out. This is a joke of its own as I've hired that very car with a massive scratch on the passenger door which will then point to the fact that as per Avis' principle it cannot be driven let alone rented out. I drove the car in myself and it was in driving condition and could (and probably was) rented out the very same day. This costed me around 90 euros ! First among the variety of hidden charges
- Airport surcharge (whatever that is) 90 euros
- Admin expenses (taking pictures of the scratch) 80 euros
- I've called asking to add border crossing to my contract few days after I've rented the car and asked customer service agent over the phone what the charge was (expecting it to be around 50 euros per country as with most other rent-a-car companies), they've never confirmed the price and have charged a random amount of another 80 euros (9000+RSD)
I've booked the car via broker and paid extra for full insurance cover because purchasing insurance directly with Avis pretty much doubles the price of the hire. Broker offered full protection for £5 per day. Of course they've refused to cover all of these additional 'admin' fees and have covered for the damage recovery only leaving me short for the amount of all hidden charges (350 euros). My advice to any potential users of their services is to either have good legal representation or previous experience in forensics, that's probably the best way to keep yourselves safe from the extortion you are bound to be subject to if renting with Avis.

I rented a car under agreement 656054836 and had a very disappointing experience.

At pickup, a €250 deposit was taken, and I was told it would be fully refunded after returning the vehicle. However, after the return, I received only €50 back.

There was no clear explanation for the remaining amount. Additional charges were applied, but I was not given a transparent breakdown or clear confirmation that I agreed to these extra services.

Customer support was not helpful and simply told me to contact my bank, instead of providing a proper explanation.

This experience feels misleading and not transparent.

I strongly recommend everyone to:

carefully read everything before signing

avoid additional services without full understanding

double-check all charges before leaving

Overall, I am very dissatisfied and would not recommend this service.

I booked a car via Wizzair and reserved a booster seat for my child months in advance. When I arrived, I was told no seat was available and simply that I “wouldn’t be charged.” No alternatives were offered, and I was even refused when I asked if I could buy one myself and be reimbursed. This was unprofessional and put my child’s safety at risk.

On top of that, after returning the car in perfect condition (and being told everything was fine), I was later charged extra without any explanation. My Wizzair booking clearly showed that everything was already paid in full, so there was no justification for additional charges.

It then took 12 days for customer service to respond to my complaint, only to say that “as a gesture of goodwill” they may provide a better service next time. This is completely unacceptable.

I will never use Payless/Avis again in any country and strongly advise others to avoid them as well.

The car itself was fine, but the overall experience was frustrating. I was charged extra fees. Needs better transparency and communication.

I rented a car at Nis airport. I was charged 35 EURs as cross-border fee to Bulgaria (in cash) and I didn't get a green card with it. I was told that I have to drive to Nis myself, go to the insurance company and pay for the green card myself!! The 35 EUR charge didn't appear on the invoice I received, watch out!

Nemoze se staviti minus deset zvezdica,komentari pocinju sa jednom. Znaci najgora kompanija. Rentiram vec 18 godina i jos nisam dozilela ovekve lopove. Dosla sam 1.5. kod njih i rekli su mi da nemaju auto koji sam platila 2 meseca ranije ali ako dam 200-300€ vise naci ce mi auto. Znaci nikad vise. Gojko i Marija najveci lopovi, ne znaju da obavljaju njihov posao,rade na salteru da bi ubedjivali ljude kako je moj propust a ne njihov. Jos uvek imaju moj novac kojim sam platila auto pre 2 meseca. Verovatno mi nece ni vrati. Znaci nikad vise. Ostala sam na aerodromu s dvone male dece bez auta koji sam platila. Molim sve ljude da nikad od njih ne uzimaju auto. Najgori su. Pomozite mi u borbi protiv ovakvih lopova.

They are scammers and steal my security deposit. I couldn't do anything as they have no relationship with global AVIS
