Poor Quality, and a Frustrating Warranty
I am extremely disappointed with my experience at Banter and will not be purchasing jewelry from them again.
I had my tragus pierced there and purchased two gold body jewelry earrings, each costing around $160. At the time of purchase, a separate warranty was automatically added to my bill for EACH earring at an additional cost. No one asked whether I wanted the warranties, and they were presented in a way that made me believe they were required. I later learned that they were completely optional.
Unfortunately, I ended up needing both warranties almost immediately because BOTH pieces of jewelry had problems within just a few months.
The first was a gold hoop that broke. I had to drive back to the store, where they sent it out for repair. I was later notified that it could not be repaired, so I had to make another trip to the store to get a replacement.
A few days later, I tried to remove the second earring, which had a threaded back. Neither my husband nor I could get it off. I drove back to Banter, and after multiple attempts by two different employees, they ultimately had to CUT the jewelry off to remove it.
I was told I could choose a replacement, but when I selected a less expensive earring, I was told I couldn't get it because the replacement had to cost the same as or more than my original purchase. If it cost more, I would have to pay the difference. So apparently I could spend more money, but I couldn't choose something less expensive that I actually liked.
At that point, I asked for the same type of hoop I had just received as a replacement for my first broken earring two days earlier. They didn't have it in stock. I then had to drive to a SECOND Banter location, about 30 minutes away, just to get my replacement. I ultimately had to pay additional money for that one as well.
And to top it all off, they tried to sell me ANOTHER warranty. I was told the warranty I had already paid for was no longer valid because it had been used when the original jewelry failed. So I paid extra for two warranties on two pieces of expensive jewelry, BOTH pieces failed within a few months, and now I would have to pay again if I wanted the replacement jewelry covered.
At this point, I'm actually nervous to remove either of the hoops I'm wearing because I'm afraid they will break. Each original piece cost around $160, so we're talking about roughly $300 worth of jewelry that didn't even make it through a year.
For what Banter charges, I expected much better quality, a much better warranty experience, and far less hassle. Instead, BOTH pieces of jewelry failed within months, I made multiple trips to multiple stores, one piece had to be sent out for repair and ultimately replaced, the other literally had to be cut off my ear, I paid additional money for a replacement, and then I was asked to purchase yet another warranty.
Expensive jewelry should not be this disposable. What a total disappointment. I would not recommend Banter, and I will not be purchasing from them again.
