We asked for a table for two
Bell's fish bar - Durham. We asked for a table for two. We were put on a table sharing with another couple but in the middle of the restaurant. Waitresses and customers brushing against us as they passed by. One empty window table was 'reserved' despite nobody sitting in it and no reserved sign. Before being served a couple vacated their table and asked them politely if we could take their place ( no pun intended ) which we did only to be told by the staff that this table too was reserved - no sign and no customer waiting. Our opinion of this restaurant had now taken a dive. Personally I would have left but my partner (being a more kindly sole (again no pun intended) was starving. So we proceeded to place and order - Haddock and chips please. Response - haddock is being served as two small steaks without batter!! - I mean - fish and chips without batter - for crying out loud.. Reluctantly we opted for cod and chips which were - - - hugely disappointing. Guessing that's our first and last visit !!
