I've had a bad experience where I spent £5.95 on the car check as advertised, but then two days later £39.90 was taken directly from my bank account without any notice or warning. This whole experience feels like a scam, as they did not ask for permission, nor did I agree to take on the subscription.

Done a check for a vehicle on the 23/06/26 for £5.95. Today 25/06/26, I had £39.90 taking out of my account. Virgin has told me, it's a subscription. It was not apparent on your website, that it was. I have told Virgin Bank to raise a fraud case against you. I'm giving you one day to repay my money

Over £700 without knowing!
I have just looked through a credit card I rarely use and which was changed companies last year…and I have 18 months of transactions for 39.90 from this company…and I had NO IDEA
OVER £700!!! For a service used for one number plate check in December 2024.
UPDATE: just tried to call - over 10 minutes waiting in ‘position 1’…paying for a premium number…insult to injury

Thank God for Monzo!! Purchased the £5.95 car check, looking like this company was a reputable place. They then tried to take £39.90 from my bank which monzo declined immediately. Obviously a scam website as absolutely no mention of a nearly £40 subscription. Avoid this website at all costs! Its a shame as the report was decent, the scam subscription not so much. AVOID!

Dishonest business model
Dishonest business model. I was looking for a one off report on my new car. At no point was I made aware that I was signing up for a subscription service. It was a case of click the button to download your report and a request for what seemed to be a one off payment. They do not mention recurring charges at that point nor in the email confirmation. In the member section on the website it does not list a second invoice which they go ahead and charge for after two days. The only mention of a membership and subscription in hidden away in the Terms and Conditions. Knowing that nobody ever reads them, as life is too short, they 'legally' scam you for a charge you would never have paid had you known.
In their response to me below they say everyone is made aware of the ongoing commitment to pay further. If that were clear I would not have signed up. It is obviously unclear to all the other reviewers most of whom have given 1 star. Does it not make you wonder what's wrong with your site when every reviewer has the same opinion? In the members area on the website there is an invoice for the original amount paid but there is no invoice for the further amount lifted from my card two days later. Nor was there any mention of the ongoing commitment in their welcome email. Nor any prompt by email that a further amount was about to be charged, nor any receipt for that amount. Flying under a convenient flag of legality this company does all it can to obfuscate and then cries that everything on the website is clear.

Absolute scam.
Signed up for a one-off car check at £5.95 on Wed 27 May.
Was then charged £39.90 within 3 working days (5 days total).
No email confirmation about subscription at time or anything on the site.
Had to research online for comments about charges and subscription.
This should not be allowed.
It should be opt in or out.
Have emailed there customer services but I doubt I will receive a refund even though I am within the 14 day cooling off period.

SPAM-Be careful before buying their services
Reading the reviews form other customers, I think I am on the same boat as others.
Bought one check for £5.95 on 22nd May and then got charged £39.99 on 24th May,without my knowledge on my credit card.
I would have missed this payment unless I had a look at my statement.
I have requested them to cancel any further subscription fee as well as refund the £39.99 charged.
But despite 3 reminders, I have not heard from them.
I hope they will resolve the issue soon to my satisfaction.

Misleading charges, beware.
I was offered a “special price” of £5.95 for an HPI check, which I paid and received the report for. However, after reading other reviews, I am now questioning how accurate the information actually is.
What really concerns me is that just two days later they attempted to take £39.99 from my account without me realising. Thankfully I used Revolut, who blocked the payment immediately.
In my opinion, this business model is extremely misleading. Please read the small print very carefully before using them. Beware.

Lady that answered the phone sounded like she had heard the same story a million times....( and it looks like she probably has looking at the reviews ). I have sent an email to them so lets see if they take responsibility and reply to it

I used their service thinking it would help me avoid being scammed, but it turned out to be the opposite. I paid £5.95 for a basic PDF report, which was incomplete and didn’t offer anything useful for a standard UK vehicle.
Not long after, they attempted to charge my card £39.90 without authorisation. I reached out by email and they gave shady response that it was in terms and conditions. As you can also see from other reviewers, they had the same experience, and hence, this guys are openly stealing other people money. Scammers.
This behaviour raises serious concerns. I would strongly recommend staying away.

You buy a HPI CHECK and no where is it clear that you sign up to a subscription. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. DISGRACEFUL SERVICE AND ATTITUDE BY LADY ON THE PHONE.

Yes it sounds like they are being so helpful now. But I can tell you now this is not reality. They have said no successful billing has taken place yet I've had 2 £39 charges taken from my account. No email to say you have subscribed to a monthly subscription. All in tiny small Print no one can see.
No notification to say you have to cancel within a set amount of days.
Not to mention I called my credit card company and the helpful assistant told me he's heard of this company and I will receive money back.
So this company can reply what they like but do t be fooled.!!!!
