Once a finance deal was accepted and paid out from the lender to the broker (in this case Car genie) they decided to withhold the funds and cancel the agreement.

A lady was laughing over the phone when questioned on why car genie has wasted everyone’s time!

Quite possibly the worst professional experience using a company I’ve ever had. I went to collect my first vehicle from the dealership 70 miles away, only to arrive and be told there was no vehicle as it had been sent back to auction.

I was crushed; I had taken time off of work, I had asked my partner to drive me there, alongside my sister who had also taken time off of work.

I called Genie to advise that there was no car. They were reluctant to help at first as I was met with an objection immediately; they said it wasn’t their fault as they only act as the broker which is true however there were no efforts on their part to ensure the vehicle was actually there for me to collect.

Their own salesman advised me that the ‘group chat’ had no notifications advising the vehicle had gone back to auction. Both parties failed to provide me with pretty basic customer services.

They have since refunded me for the wasted journey and toll fees which I appreciate. I decided to carry on using them as I understood that the issue was mainly the dealership’s fault. They assisted me with finding another car.

Not only was the second car dirty inside and out, there was no oil, a chip in the windscreen, two dust caps were missing and a suspected slow puncture on the offside rear tyre. Although my partner had asked for the two dusk caps to be put on the car before setting off and the tyre seemed to not deflate much after a while.

I noticed the car was struggling when driving between 18 and 27mph; the vehicle would jolt and vibrate which gave me anxiety when driving it as I felt the car was not roadworthy. I shared my concerns with the dealership to see if there was anything they could do. I was told I could not claim on the warranty for cosmetic issues, I mentioned the dirty engine coolant and that the chip was not disclosed on the advert. The dealership confirmed i could bring the vehicle back for a full refund which I decided was for the best.

The dealership was also in this strange junkyard looking compound which honestly didn’t inspire confidence in my purchase. I thought the vehicle would likely have issues and I was correct, seeing as a cloud of smoke followed me all the way home.

I called Genie and I spoke to James on the resolution team about this matter. This was truly the most unprofessional call I have experienced. He asked me to confirm the issues. I had sent an email but I confirmed again on the call however I was interrupted and told that I could not return the vehicle because of the issues I described. They were cosmetic issues he said, so I couldn’t just change my mind. Even though I had mentioned on the email to Genie that there was clearly no service done on the vehicle because there was no oil in the car and the engine coolant was thick and dirty. Just as I had explained this to James, he cut me off again.

The misogynistic use of my first name by James was extremely gross. He used my name repeatedly on the call to cut me off when I was trying to speak. This was not only so incredibly insulting, his entire attitude on the call was unfriendly, cold and honestly just plain rude. At this point, James thought it appropriate to tell me that he had been doing this job for 30 years, he knows what he’s talking about, I won’t get the vehicle returned.

He mentioned I would need to have a vehicle inspection to confirm there’s a fault with the car. While this is true, had James not cut me off so unnecessarily so many times, he would have known that I had contacted the dealership who said I could bring back the vehicle for a full refund. I asked why I was being told conflicting statements but I was ignored. I voiced that I was no longer comfortable with talking to him as I felt he was patronising me; he claimed he was trying to help but the tone of the call was hostile so I ended the call.

Today, I set off to return the faulty second car however the car broke down on the way there. Luckily I was OK and the vehicle was recovered by the dealership. The dealership was initially reluctant to help as they claimed I needed to recover it myself. My sister and I pushed back on this as they sold me a clearly faulty vehicle. The dealership then arranged the recovery.

While at the roadside, I decided to do my own checks on the car only to discover it was recalled due to a safety issue and was sold to me illegally. They weren’t even FCA regulated!

I called Genie to request a full refund and account closure. James had called me back but there was no concern from him. No surprise there. He advised there was enough evidence to return the vehicle. I mentioned the recall but James again cut me off saying he didn’t need to know about that.

So now I’m left with no refund yet, no car and a bad taste in my mouth since using this service. Car Finance Genie turned the experience of getting my first car into a nightmare.

I’ve since found a better deal. Don’t get scammed.
