I booked the car through CarJet from this company trading as Optimorent and paid for Carjet’s upgraded additional insurance in advance. When I collected the car the agent, Luka, recommended I take their insurance as there would be a charge for any damage. I explained I had already paid for the upgraded policy, but he was dismissive of this and tried to scare me with high sums for potential damage. I felt pressured to agree to the additional cost (€100) but decided to stick with my policy. It was dark when I collected the car from their off airport office so it was not easy to check for pre-existing damage. Luka told me to check it in the daylight, but my partner fortunately took photos/video at the time.
I was not asked to wash the car before returning it. Over the 4 days of hire the car got dusty so that when I returned it Luka had to check a couple of areas by rubbing the dust off with his fingers. He then told me everything was fine and my deposit would be returned.
5 minutes after I left - my partner collected me - he called me to say that he had cleaned the car and found a scratch which I would be charged for. I don’t think he expected me to go back - because who would normally be able to do that if they were catching a plane? Anyway he showed us a scratch and said it would cost 350 euros. When we disputed this - after all he had told me it was ok - he got very rude and even referred to us as ‘you people’ laughed at us and became very aggressive. My partner then checked his photos and it was clear that the scratch had been there when I collected it. So this guy was basically exploiting the fact that I would not be able to do anything about his claim that I had damaged the car to scam 350 euros from my credit card. When we showed him the photo he didn’t even have the manners to apologise. So - the hire was cheap but the scam is there - beware beware beware and avoid this rental company. I have used Abbycar and Viaggare before without problem but this lot trading as ‘Optimorental’ are cowboys.

Balsa is a very polite and helpful man. Made getting the car and returning it simple easy and quick and also gave us a ride back to the airport.

I was first a bit unsure due to other reviews but I can only comment on my own experiences which were very positive. Excellent customer service from a lad called Balsa, he stayed around and waited for us as I had put incorrect times when we landed. He got us a better car and kept in contact whenever he was needed. We had a problem getting back to airport in Montenegro but he made sure all checks were done and dropped us off at airport terminal. The car was too dirty to check for scratches but nothing was taken off my credit card deposit. Very cheap prices but a quality service provided and I can’t praise Balsa enough for his customer service.

Big scam! Avoid it!

First they pick you up and take you ALONE to sign the papers, a 3-minute drive from the airport. They'll probably take you alone, so you'll have the stress and desire to hurry back to pick up your companion, who's waiting alone at the airport. So you're automatically less vigilant when signing the papers.
Secondly, they don't give you an inventory of the car when they hand you the keys. They tell you to take photos of the vehicle (it's usually dark, so you can't see much). They also suggest that you pay for a new insurance policy specific to their agency (not to be taken).

When we returned the car, our dear scammer found 2 tiny scratches on the vehicle, barely 2 centimetres long, which you can't see in the photos, of course, because they're so light. So he tells you that the scratches weren't there before and charges you extra (€147 for me).
Obviously not wanting to miss our flight, we had no choice but to pay rather quickly without even knowing how to argue (they'll give you an appointment close enough to your flight on purpose to have little time to give in).

The dear scammer is surely making a profit on this extra charge.

To be avoided!

We were on vacation in Montenegro for 7 days we took a car from CarThor, we had a very good experience we were welcomed by a guy named Milos he is very kind they gave us a new Golf 8 generation, their prices are good the car is new and clean all recommendations

C est des vrais voleurs, fils de voleurs, assurance obligatoire sur place parce que celle prise n est pas de chez eux. Ensuite malgré une double assurance il fait payé des grattes déjà présente sur la voiture.
C est revenu 4x plus chère ( sans aucune exagération) que si on avait prit avec une firme connu. De vrai famille de ma*frats à fuir.

I should have read this reviews before to rent
I understand unfortunately that they are scammers
They rent to us a very damaged old car with almost 200.000km
The price was super attractive and I understand that this is their way of working and make money :
They will charge you afterward for anything

They charges 312€ for a small blow (not even 1cm) and if you don’t want to miss your flight you can not argue and just pay
Knowing that the car was really damaged full of blows and bumps and scratches

The man who is renting the car is really nice, I can not complain, but I also think it’s part of the scam and he probably gets a commission every time he scams a customer

At least if they charge 300€ for every bump they should rent a decent car, but they don’t even fix it. All scratches and bumps,
We had to inflate the tires, there was no windshield washer fluid and the shock absorbers were very worn.

Run away, don’t bring business to Carthor Monténégro

L'entreprise carthor ne vous fournira pas de compte rendu des dommages déjà présents sur le véhicule et vous demandera a votre arrivée de réaliser des photos du véhicule vous même. Le plein du véhicule ne sera d'ailleurs pas fait non plus.
Au retour ils vont faire le tour de la voiture dans tous les sens et nettoyer afin de trouver un accrochage et vous le facturer.
Bien sûr rien n'est visible sur les photos de votre arrivee et ils le savent vous arrivez de nuit les photos sont donc forcément peu visibles.
A fuir arnaque à touriste !

The staff, two young gentlemen I dealt with, were very nice, polite and professional. The company responded to my messages, so it seemed all good at the start.
But,but... when I returned the car, I wasn't issued a refund receipt for the deposit of 1000 Euros. On my several requests to get the receipt, the company responded with a generic message "we will contact our bank and get back to you". They never got back to me.
I received the refund 36 days later, but only after American Express UK got involved. I have never waited more than a couple of weeks to receive the deposit refund from other rental car companies in Montenegro.

The vehicle was provided to me covered in dirt to hide existing damage. The company did not provide me with the damage report documents before we were given the vehicle. When we returned the vehicle they cleaned it, took pictures of pinprick-sized damage, and then charged 700 euro to my credit card, then refused to provide a damage invoice so that I could not make a claim against the damage with my rental insurance.

Avoid Carthor/ Optimo rent in Montenegro, they are scam artists and bullies.

Be careful with Carthor Montenegro, it is an arnaque they will charge you a lot of money after you gave the car back all their explaination are false . For us nearly the same amount as the rent paid in France .

Excellent company and perfect communication via whats app. Everything was so easy, met at the airport straight away and had a nice little Peugeot. Highly recommend far better than the big companies
