Just another dogey butcher who gives meat full of tumours

Ruined Christmas for My Family
I’m extremely unhappy with my recent order from Cleaver Meats. I was given brown meat that smelled sour, along with turkey breast that was clearly off. This was not oxidation – the meat was brown, badly stored, and the vacuum packaging was inflated, which is an obvious sign of spoilage. As a carnivore who orders meat regularly, I know when meat has gone bad.
I order from Cleaver Meats often and had been enjoying their products, which makes this even more disappointing. Around 4kg of meat had to be thrown away. I contacted them within seconds of receiving my order and sent photos. I was initially told they apologised and would send out replacements.

However, when I inspected the rest of the order (apart from the sirloin), I found that most of the meat was either badly stored or already gone off. I then complained again and requested a refund. I was told by email that a refund would be issued.
After a week with no refund and no Christmas food, I contacted them again, only to be told “sorry, I made a mistake I thought I refunded you I didn’t I’ll do it now .” Another mistake ruined my Christmas. I couldn’t afford to replace the meat without receiving the £105 refund I was promised.

This whole experience left me upset, angry, and deeply disappointed. Given how obvious the spoilage was, this should never have happened, and the handling of the refund made things far worse. Never felt so let down!

Not purchased for ages, but decided to treat myself to some steak and gammon, not dissapointed, nice quality, great price, and even the same old jolly old bloke delivering. Can't fault them.

First ever order arrived today, communication and tracking all okay, was a little concerned with courier DHL, however arrived on time! Value for money and quality of meat was fantastic! Had my rib eye flat steaks already and were perfect! Fingers crossed this first class service continues as I will definitely order again! Thanks cleaver meats team!

Tried this butchers for my first monthly meat shop, 2 out of 3 boxes came - 1 didn't until 48 hours later the courier "lost" it they was all hot and smelt had to be thrown away, DHL wouldn't deal with me said the sender had to go through protocol to get me my refund. There was alot of items also missing and the small sauces they sell were just thrown into a little bag and had broken and gone everywhere, I contacted about missing items and the box that had to be thrown away. Was told missing items would be sent out and complimentary steak - received the missing items nothing else lost over around 80 pound of meat on the box that had to be thrown away and every single time I've contacted this butchers they've not once acknowledged the box nor made any effort to contact DHL about it so i could get my money back or another box sent out. I'm a single mum and we're without and money down because of this obviously it was the couriers fault - but they'd only deal with Cleaver meats about the issue and now it would be too late for them to raise it for them IF they did ever bother to acknowledge it. All meats had short sell by dates on too - literally 2 days or so.

The courier delivered as required.
the beef rib joint was spectacular, absolutely perfect, great size and so tender, it almost melted.
Thank you, I’ll happily be reordering.

Selected delivery date Thursday for weekend bbq, didn't receive it, emailed company twice asking for tracking number , no reply. Total scam, don't take online orders if you don't plan to fulfil them.

Very poor service

I ordered some meat which arrived only 2 days later well packed ,very fresh and very good quality. The ordering process was simple and I was kept updated on the progress of the order throughout. Prices are also very good. I will certainly use Cleaver Meats again.

i was made to feel extremely uncomfortable because i was asking questions the women’s response was ‘can’t be bothered it’s been long day ‘ then when i picked up some chips she said i’m choosing the cheapest items she was so rude i was buying food for someone else £10 minimum charge is con will never ever visit again and definetly do not go at 12 as they can’t be bothered to help try working til 4am sososo rude

Website description of meat not accurate. Such as duck which appears as a fresh product in pictures on their website, in actual fact is a frozen product from Poland. Lamb loin chops are in fact a braising (not from the loin), product, again deep frozen. Whole super roaster chicken deep frozen, no product origin. Lamb rack plastered with marinade, new Zealand, frozen cheap lamb and did not match the website picture. Beef roast from Ireland was origin marked, but arrived with all fat removed.
The actual products delivered are not as website pictures. No product origin in most cases, meat frozen and not declared as such. Spent over £50 would not order again. Duck had to be thrown away, as not fresh and was frozen nearly a year ago.
Very disappointing, would not use these people again.
If I want frozen meat, I will buy from Iceland.
##Update##
Cleaver Meats contacted me and refunded the value of the duck and lamb. They explained that substitutions were made due to supply problems. They apologised and said this is not normal practice.
I thank them for this honesty.

have used cleaver meats 4_ 5 times now the meat is great best steaks I've had delivered when asked for and packaged excellent and colds still with ice packs

Meat good, prompt delivery well packed. Just don't expect them to answer your email as they just ignore them even if this is due to missing items. Such a shame it would be easy for them to improve and then I would give 5 stars.

Cleaver Meats is an independent butchers in Derbyshire. I ordered online and although there was a small upset with delivery Cleaver Meats reacted promptly, dealt with the problem quickly and efficiently and resolved the issue to my complete satisfaction.

They also supplied well packaged tasty meat that my family and I really enjoyed.

29th April 2020:
Have used Cleaver a few times now. Always good meat and always prompt delivery.

However, would not recommend the sausages.
Gave them a try in our last delivery and the sausages are way below what I expected. Mostly rusk and a horrible texture ... yeugh! tut tut.
