I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because the text editing tool is brilliant.

but the rest is awful. The Underlord feature is well overrated; doesn't even do it's job properly and just causes more work. Also, the timeline is a joke. If you put something on a seperate channel, it integrates with things on another channel and you have to delete everything manually.

I ended my subscription months ago but I'm still being charged every month.

I absolutely love descript. It’s extremely easy to use, has excellent time saving features and is very reasonably priced. I also accidentally got auto-billed and because it was within 24-48 hours after the billing they gave me a full refund, no hassle. They are honest, reliable and a truly great product. Highly recommend. I LOVE the editing via text feature, eye contact feature, removing filler, editing pauses (via the script) and copy and paste features for editing.

I signed up for Descript to create professional videos for my business. Descript's AI suggested background music for my video, which I used. After publishing to YouTube, I received a copyright strike and my video was removed.
What followed was 10 days of being bounced between three parties with zero resolution:

YouTube told me to contact the claimant
Free To Use (the claimant) told me to pay them or the strike stays
Descript told me to work with YouTube and Free To Use directly

Here's the kicker that took Descript 10 days to discover: the song named in the copyright claim (Achievement - Bluewave) is not even the song used in my video. The song Descript's AI put in my video was Forward Drive. Descript confirmed this themselves — meaning Free To Use filed a claim against the wrong song entirely.
Despite that, nobody — not YouTube, not Free To Use, not Descript — would act on this obvious discrepancy. I still have a copyright strike on my channel.
Descript did process a refund and cancel my subscription promptly when I asked, which I appreciate. But the core problem remains: if Descript's AI recommends music that results in wrongful copyright strikes, and Descript's answer is "not our problem," that's a fundamental risk for any creator using this platform.
Use Descript at your own risk if you plan to publish to YouTube.

I wish i had read the poor reviews before buying. Nothing but stress and problems with this company. When i was using the free version, it seemed to work perfectly and did everything i asked of it, as soon as i paid for the upgrade, nothing works, it doesnt do anything i ask of it, infact it does the opposite and just causes more problems to my work than when i started. I have tried to contact support multiple times, their website says you can have a refund within 48 hours of purchasing if you are unhappy with their service, in which i was trying to cancel multiple times within this period, but of course i have been ignored. Their email replies say that their support is ' out of office' which is another lie because i am contacting them in the correct time that their website states they are available and working. Now they have ignored me for over the 48 hours that i have been trying to cancel for my refund so now they will try to say i am not eligible because it has been over 48 hours but this was their plan the whole time. Please avoid for your own mental health.

I have always loved and recommended Descript but now they have changed the rules. I have always had the ability to remove filler words as a part of my plan. Now I am charged "UnderLord points" each time I use this feature. I will still use Descript until I find a good replacement but I just don't like being promised a feature and then having the rules change.

If you're inexperienced and think this will be a helpful way to generate content- think again. I've paid more into the AI credits than I care to mention. When using the "underlord AI" assistant to help create and edit- expect more problems to come from that "help". I'd ask the bot to edit something- ONE small thing- and it would do that PLUS create 3-5 more problems for me to then have to fix or ask it to help me fix. All the extra edits needed that were CREATED BY THE BOT, now require more AI credits to perform the tasks. The bot would replace video scenes with the wrong scene, move narrator text, remove title cards or edit them without me asking, remove and replace scene borders- all from me asking it to unmute the narrator for the 300th time- because it would mute the narrator so often. This is a racket- I pay for credits- the bot creates so many problems so that I burn through the credits expeditiously. I'd suggest an alternative app until they fix this issue.

I’ve typically rated this platform a 5 out of 5, even when there were occasional software glitches, because the overall experience and results have been strong. However, the recent change to the avatar feature is a significant disappointment.

The new avatars look overly animated and artificial—plumped lips, unnatural eyes, and exaggerated facial features that feel more cartoon-like than realistic. One of the main reasons I used this feature was for its lifelike quality, and that standard no longer seems to be there.

Because of this shift, I won’t be using the avatar feature again. I’m hoping the developers reconsider the direction and return to more natural, realistic rendering in the future.

Bold pricing. Unpolished software.

Editing is filled with bugs and UI that is not fully developed. The pricing reflects a complete software.

The experience with Descript has been frustrating. Basic usability feels poorly thought out, especially when it comes to simple actions.

Not being able to select multiple items at once is a major issue. For something as basic as copying and pasting several elements, everything has to be done one by one. It turns a simple task into a repetitive and time-consuming process.

For an editing tool, this kind of limitation slows everything down and breaks the workflow. Small actions shouldn’t feel this tedious.

The tool is just ok but despite receiving a VERY CLEAR confirmation that my subscription was canceled via email, I was charged 3 weeks later.

The response was just that it’s canceled, identical to the first one, but no mention of refunding the fraudulent charge.

When I replied asking about the refund I received another identical automated message about the cancellation confirmation.

This has happened 3 times, seconds after I reply.

Screen Recorder is great to make quick videos, and using the captioning tools all in Descript helps make it very easy to get quick videos out.

Uploading large files however is nearly impossible. Great if you're working with small files size from Riverside and etc. But cannot use it in a professional setting.

Charged without clear authorization for editor seats I never intended to add

I was charged for additional editor seats after being prompted to invite teammates, with no clear indication at the time that each seat would incur an extra charge. I only discovered this when reviewing my bank statement at the start of the month.

When I contacted support to request a full refund, I was told the charges fell outside their refund policy window — despite the fact that the billing was not transparent. The support team acknowledged the lack of clarity and said they would "pass feedback along," but refused to issue a refund. My case was escalated to a management team with no guarantee of resolution.

No invoice was sent by email. Charges are only visible in-app. This is not an acceptable billing practice, and placing the full burden of discovering unexpected charges on the customer is an ethics issue, not just a UX one.

I would not recommend Descript to anyone who values transparent billing.

Expensive, buggy, slow, inaccurate..
I will remain polite, but it is extremely hard considering the wasted time and money

I have used it for 5 months.
1. The AI is kinda lame
2. The overall site is good, limited media usage
3. No cover edit
4. Lame sound library
5. No direct acces videi from YouTube
6. Can not upload to tik tok
7. Lame billing method. Can t use their receipt...

Identifying speakers in transcripts doesn't work properly. AI chat support is worse than useless.

I’ve been a paying Descript customer for years and currently subscribe to the Creator plan. Recently, Descript shifted core functionality into an “AI credits” system, and it’s been an awful experience.

I’ve edited only three podcast episodes with little to no AI usage, and I’m already out of credits. That’s not a reasonable or transparent model for long-time paying customers. It feels like the product I’ve been paying for quietly got paywalled behind a meter.

This change comes across as pure monetization over customer value. If you’re going to charge extra for AI, fine, but burning credits this fast without clear, predictable usage is unacceptable. I’m canceling and I won’t recommend Descript to anyone. I’ll also be sharing this experience with my network so others don’t get surprised the way I did.

Wow! Thanks to Trustpilot I have saved a lot of money. It was Descript v Apple’s Creative Studio. I decided on Descript because I’m a beginner. As one last check, I looked here on Trustpilot and found these awful reviews. Descript, what have you done?

Grandes carencias con respecto a un editor medianamente normal.
A veces no funciona por escenas, subtítulos y más.
Es una pena, entre aprender y sacar el trabajo adelanto se ha ido tiempo, que si bien es un aprendizaje, no se paga una herramienta como esta para tales resultados.
El soporte más allá de youtube es malo o casi carente.
No la recomiendo. Vamos que me he devuelto a clipchamp + canva.
