Distinct Physiotherapy has restored my faith in Physiotherapy!
Distinct Physiotherapy has restored my faith in physiotherapy and I can’t recommend Leanne enough!
I had a chronic pain condition and had previously seen three physiotherapists, a chiropractor and a deep tissue masseuse and all they did was make pain worse, it got so bad I had to stop activities such as exercise for years. I left it for over a decade as I lost trust in the profession and thought that the daily pain was just part of my life.
I was recommended to go to Distinct Physiotherapy when a joining gym, I booked one of the initial 15-minute consultation sessions and I have never looked back, I can’t imagine going to anyone else. Even after the initial consultation, I knew Leanne was different to my previous experiences and that she was genuinely invested in my health and not ‘another customer’, her motto is that the end goal is that you don’t need to see her again.
She also has a holistic view on dealing with the problem and doesn’t just focus on the issue as a singular entity. Quite often a pain can be referred from another part of the body that we didn’t realise there was a problem with; our lifestyle, our emotions, our sleep patterns, our physical health and environmental situations are all interconnected and can be contributing factors. She also uses a polyphasic approach to her treatment and may use massage, ultrasound waves, acupuncture or readjustment therapy depending on your condition, how the issue/condition evolves and what you feel comfortable with. Leanne adapts the treatment depending on what is needed and feedback from you. Remember, physiotherapy is an interactive process and a journey and you will likely have exercises to do at home, feedback is important and if you don’t do the homework in combination with the physiotherapy, you may not improve.
This combination of approaches and the fact that Leanne never clock watches the sessions is the major difference from all of the previous professionals I had seen before, who had a single approach mindset , and the reason why I am mainly pain free (it is a chronic condition after all).
Since dealing with my chronic condition, I had also seen Leanne for two separate acute conditions that developed last year, which are now pain free and she recently speeded up and supported my respiratory and physical recovery after being hospitalised with pneumonia. She has a wealth of experience with different conditions and doesn’t disappoint. I also sent my husband to her with a different chronic condition who had multiple steroid injections with the NHS and was still in pain, he now has pain free days which he never thought would happen. Leanne is honest and if she doesn’t think she can help you, she will tell you and recommend options.
During the covid lockdown and social distancing restrictions, Leanne has adapted her service and I have had sessions via zoom for treatment. The general perception is that a physiotherapist has to touch you but that’s only a part of the treatment, a large part of the sessions is looking at movement and mobility patterns of the body and listening to feedback which is used for diagnosis, Physio movements are then prescribed to treat the condition which can be done at home as guided by Leanne.
If you want more information or to get a flavour of Leanne and advice, aside from the website, Distinct Physiotherapy is on multiple platforms such as facebook and Instagram and Leanne posts interesting live sessions about health, thoughts for the day (one of my favourites is giving permission to take time out and additional advice during the covid lockdown) and interactive interviews with different types of people from the health industry.
I can’t thank Leanne enough for helping with the pain, I didn’t realise how much affect it had on my emotional well-being and am so much happier. Investing in your recovery is worth every penny. I’m almost a little sad that I don’t need Distinct Physiotherapy at the moment but then we have achieved the end goal!
