Unecessary delays at security…incompetence

3 am in the morning airport fairly quiet BUT big queues at security due to not enough staff being used, very very slow getting people through X ray body scanner, running out of trays, slow to open extra security lines. WTAF. This lead to an unnecessary and looong log jam and passenger frustration which was TOTALLY avoidable.

Avoid the airport and the city sorry guys any other place in Ireland far better.

Security search rude and not nice experience.

Scanning a bag then sending it through twice when going for a plane simply ridiculous just search it.

I can see why the city struggles first and last impressions count.

NOT a family friendly airport

NOT a family friendly airport. No matter what any gate agent tells you in any airport, they won't deliver buggies to the gate, so unless you insist on taking it on the plane with you, good luck with carrying your kid all the way through immigration to the baggage claim.

Rude and wouldn't admit responsibility

Airport Security.

My bag was put through, with coat boots and liquids in a tray as usual. It was then diverted to behind the screen and I had to wait at the end while the staff scan & look through the other trays to see what the hold up is.

My tray needed to go through again...apparently like many others.
Slow wait.

But this isn't what causes the 1 star review.
When they checked my liquids, because the hold up lay within that area, I realised my small bag was missing, with passport, clothes, gifts etc in it. I asked in a rather panicked way where it was and they didn't know.

After several minutes of searching they found it and a new older guy accused me of abandoning it on the passenger side of the screen.

He would not listen or accept that the last time i had seen or touched it, it had been in the tray that THEY had possession of, with my coat and boots etc.

He just kept talking over me saying another passenger found it and handed it in and that I had abandoned it.

Then adding insult to injury, whatever they'd done to my bag had left it with a broken zip. Which they denied, saying it came to them like it. I was not happy, it had been a brand new bag for the trip.

Very disappointed and actually angered by their dreadful lack of care, concern or responsibility.
A simple apology could have diffused the whole thing.

Liquids in hand luggage

I flew from Kerry to Dublin for an overnight stay and had no issue with liquids in my hand luggage didn’t need to be taken out of my bag while going through security and there was no limit. For anyone who doesn’t know Kerry airport is quite small with only 2 security check points.

Today from Dublin that has 10+ security stations I was requested to take all my liquids out of my hand luggage and into a little plastic bag. I was completely unaware of this, I was then told I was only left 1 bag so was left with no option but to dump the excess liquids. I find this absolutley ridiculous with the lack of consistency within airports especially flying within the country! All my limits were 50mls and less I am very disappointed to be going home without some of my items

I'd give zero if I could

I'd give zero if I could. I travel a lot and i rate this airport even worse than CGD which I thought was atrocious. We had a 2 hr transfer time scheduled between flights which we thought should be more than sufficient. On landing there were no signs anywhere giving details of departures. Sadly the interconnecting route had just been closed so we had to go out of the airport and go through customs again. Several items had to be rescanned for no apparent reason and had to wait another 10 mins to retrieve bags That took another 50 mins and we managed to get to the desk 2 mins before the gate closed. This was the last thing I wanted as I have a heart problem. NEVER AGAIN!!!

What has happened to Dublin Airport

What has happened to Dublin Airport. I know some areas have improved and they are working on it but overall, it's increasingly becoming worse every time you go. Cheap and nasty furnisgings, no shops other than alcohol or makeup. Outside terrace bar is like something from the roughest towns in England. So many tourists come through this airport, it would great if it was clean and presentable.

Dear Dublin Airport

Dear Dublin Airport
What has to happen to improve your security screening service? Appalling customer service skills. I am sure all passengers do understand the security protocols have to be followed, but please be more selective in the hiring process. A quick example:
security officer: I need to call the supervisor as your vest tested positive …
Me: please do but please do not make me miss my flight.
security officer: I can’t promise you that ( with a cheeky smile over her shoulder)
WRONG ANSWER!!!, dear so, it would sound much better if you said : we have procedures to follow but rest assured we will do our best to run through quickly, or simply-WE’ll DO OUR BEST NOT TO! Short and I would not call it sweet, but I call it professional.
Another thing, it seems like the slower you move, the better chances you have to get this job. We are not friends, dear SO! you are in the job because we travel. God forbid if another pandemic came…
Pointless to go into details about what followed next. Learn to read people!!! Get proper trained staff as we are paving our way for the presidency of the Council of the European Union. Be prepared. You’ve 12 months to improve this service. BTW, may I ask only if those trays are ever cleaned? 🤔

Dublin Airport Terminal 2 Dublin Aggressive / Untrained Stuff!!!

Dublin Airport Terminal 2 Dublin

HORRIBLE SECURITY X RAY SERVICE AT TERMINAL 2 IN DUBLIN BY DAA OFFICERS

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE from DAA who are running Dublin Airport, especially the Terminal 2 Security section...Aggressive/ Arrogant behaviour (collectively), they are making jokes and laughing amongst themselves when getting customers through X Ray...if you mention any annoyance or make comments, they try to make an excuse to throw you out of the airport...I complained about the 'service' I received from a man and a woman and a woman at the X Ray point and the supervisor on shift understood their mistake and talked to them...but totally DREADFUL!!!

I suggest people going through security at terminal 2 not to take any agreesive rubbish from the DDA stuff!!!

It is only the 2nd worst X Ray service in Europe I have received after Manchester Airport...

Review of Dublin Airport Immigration and Security: A Broken System That Fails Those It’s Meant to Serve

I cannot overstate my disappointment and frustration with the treatment I received at Dublin Airport on two separate occasions. Ireland's immigration system is already infamous for its massive backlog of permit and GNIB card approvals or renewals, and these delays are putting people at serious risk of being unfairly denied entry. It is unacceptable that individuals who are deserving of entry—who live and work here legally—are subjected to unnecessary chaos, hostility, and disrespect from immigration officers.

Incident 1: Returning from Scotland
Despite carrying a printed email from immigration confirming my work permit approval—an email that explicitly instructs individuals to have it on hand while traveling—the officer I encountered dismissed it outright. When I offered to show my expired GNIB card alongside the email, his response was shockingly unprofessional: "And what the f*** am I to do with that—it’s expired." This level of hostility is absolutely unacceptable from someone in a public-facing role. While he eventually stamped my passport, the interaction left me feeling humiliated and undeserving of such treatment, especially after contributing to this country for over five years.

Incident 2: Arriving from Manila
The second experience was even more infuriating. I had been waiting in the non-European line when an immigration officer directed individuals with approved GNIB cards to the EU line. I approached her, explained that my card was expired but my renewal was approved (with documentation in hand), and she told me to proceed.

When I reached the desk and handed over my printed documents, the officer dismissed them outright, stating, "I’m not letting you through because you don’t have the proper documentation." I explained that my documents were approved and that I was waiting for the physical card due to delays caused by the government backlog. When I mentioned the other officer's instructions and pointed her out, he retorted with, "Well, I didn’t tell you to do that, did I? Back of the line."

I was exhausted but persisted, explaining my situation again and offering my expired GNIB card for review. He begrudgingly looked at it, rolled his eyes, and sarcastically stated, "Why didn’t you just show me this to begin with?" I explained that during a previous interaction, I was explicitly told expired cards were not valid. His dismissive response: "I’m not that immigration officer." After much unnecessary back-and-forth, he finally stamped my passport and remarked snidely, "Well, I guess you’re in."

A System That Enables Hostility
These demeaning encounters reflect a deeper, systemic problem within Ireland’s immigration process. The government’s backlog of permit and GNIB card approvals creates unnecessary stress and uncertainty, leaving people who are lawfully living and working in Ireland vulnerable to unfair treatment or even denial of entry. Immigration officers appear to have too much power and anonymity in making decisions, with no consistency in following protocols or language guidelines. If this behavior is not being addressed, it raises the question: is this the workplace culture Ireland’s immigration services aim to support?

For a country that promotes itself as welcoming and progressive, this kind of treatment is disgraceful. The first point of contact for travelers and residents should be professional, respectful, and understanding. Instead, immigration officers at Dublin Airport demonstrate hostility, inefficiency, and outright contempt for those they are meant to serve.

The Irish government needs to take responsibility for its processing delays and ensure that immigration officers are properly trained to follow protocols, use respectful language, and handle situations with professionalism. Without this, Ireland risks alienating the very people who contribute to its economy and society.

As someone who once felt proud to call Ireland home, I now feel disillusioned and unwelcome. Change is desperately needed—both in the immigration system and in the attitudes of those enforcing it. It is time for Ireland to live up to the values it claims to uphold.
