Alarms have stopped working
Two years after purchasing one alarm started beeping continuously. Contacted the company to advise and they immediately sent out a replacement. The continuous beeping stopped but another alarm stopped working all together. Meanwhile the continuous beeping has started again. I contacted the company but they have not replied. Out if the original 5 purchased I have 2 defunct alarms. I wish I had read reviews before making my purchase. I would imagine I will have to replace the lot. So much for a 10 year battery in each!!
Alarm batteries appear to have failed…
Alarm batteries appear to have failed just 3 years after fitting. I’d expected c10 years.
False alarms
I purchased Fireguard+ alarms in October 2021. They were delivered quickly as expected and we're easy to install and interlink.
I have had no problems with them untill early morning 23 and 24th December 2024. I was woken by the alarms but there was no fire. False alarms!
I looked at the website for advice. Since vacuuming the alarms as recommended I have had no more false alarms.
Regular vacuuming from now on!
28/12/2024. Reviewed too soon! My alarms sounded at 5am this morning. I reset them, but they sounded again at 5.30. False alarms both times. Had to switch them off. As they're out of guarantee (just) I think I'll have to replace them.
No response to faulty items
Purchased a set up 3 years ago, now alarms keep going off when no smoke fire or cooking. Sent 3 emails, not even an acknowledgement, are they still trading ? if so shoddy customer service
SCAM COMPANY
Two of my alarms failed within the 3 year guarantee and another is now bleeping so ready to go as well. Emailed and initially got a reply but now it's gone quiet. Don't waste your money with this scam company as they take your money then don't want to know when the alarms fail! They should be ashamed of themselves ripping people off.
Rubbish
Update - 2 separate bundles have faults with bleeping constantly. Company website not found and any links takes you to Amazon to purchase from a different Chinese company. Email address also does work. Both systems only been in 4 years however battery meant to last 10 years! Company obviously have disappeared!
Alarms failed and company stopped replying
We got our original set of alarms in January 2022. One alarm failed within a year (kept disconnecting) but the company quickly sent a replacement. But the replacement didn't work at all (didn't even respond to the test button) and in the meantime time another alarm failed. I reported this is but got no reply to my emails the second time around. Now I only have one working smoke alarm and three faulty ones sitting on the counter. I am stressed that I will have to pay for a while new set from somewhere else, they are not cheap!
UPDATE: since my most recent complaint, Fireguard+ sent me a new full set of replacement alarms, so I have changed my review from 1 to 2 stars. Hopefully all goes well with the new set!
From what I have read from other…
From what I have read from other reviewers, this company was started on the back of the flawed Scottish Legislation and profited from this and then has disappeared or been struck off!
We have had our system for nearly 3 years, but one of the detectors was beeping when we came back from holiday last week. We contacted them in good faith, using the email contact we had, but also saw there was a contact form online, which I was about to use today, to follow up on things.
However, there is no trace of a live website and all the links to it through search engines are not bringing anything back!
If Peter is still there, perhaps he’d like to respond to me through here?!
SCAM COMPANY
SCAM COMPANY!
You can buy these alarms from Alibaba for less than £10.
Excellent Service!
First set of alarms had one faulty which Peter replaced without any problem. When all seven alarms packed up after nearly two years, I got back in touch with fireguard and Claire arranged for seven new ones to be sent to me. This was done very quickly and efficiently. Can't fault that for service.
Great customer service.
Purchased interlinked smoke and heat alarms approx 2 years ago. Battery failed on the heat alarm and as its a sealed unit the battery could not be replaced. Within days of emailing the company I had a response and a new heat alarm through the post. Couldn't ask for better customer service.
10 year warranty, aye right!
Fault developed on alarms 6 months ago, only 18 months after purchase.
No response from company!
Three times today they've gone off again, having read all the reviews, 10 year warranty, aye right!
They are (responsibly!) going in the bin as soon as new alarms arrive from different company, with really great reviews!
Excellent service
Excellent service. Helpful staff resolved alarm issue very quickly. I would highly recommend this company and their products.
Completely agree with the last…
Completely agree with the last reviewer...this guy "Peter" did exactly the same to me...initially replies very quickly, then disappears, obviously feeling smug at that fact that no phone number is listed anywhere.
I think this is probably to do with the fact that the company shows as being Struck Off in April so i'm guessing he is thinking he can ignore any issues, I can only hope that they are still not trading to new customers?? Perhaps needs looking into further through Companies House.
Rubbish company when something goes…
Rubbish company when something goes wrong .
As I have read in previous posts quick To reply initially then you hear nothing.
My alarms were going off without any reason.
Only a year old now I am going to have to fork out for a complete new set .
Stay clear of this company.
Peter reply’s pretty fast but he is just as fast to not get back to you .
Repeated emails ignored
Repeated emails ignored, ended up dismantling the alarms because they wouldn't turn off and repeatedly activated. No access to advice no phone number
Total crap
Total crap, one failed within a couple of months, now the heat detector has failed. 10 year guarantee? No chance, the company do not respond to e mails. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.
FireGuard Are No More
I have a bleeping less than two years old smoke alarm. Like someone else, I sent an email to FireGuard Plus. I got an almost immediate response from Peter of the ‘Customer Support Team’. Asked me to send a photo of the back of alarm, which has nothing very unique about it. Peter is a bot, I think. Peter does not live or breathe, I don’t think. Its email address is zendesk.com, which is an automated customer response service. FireGuard Alarms Ltd changed name to EQUI 687 Ltd in June 2022 and EQUI 687 Ltd dissolved in April 2023. The two named people now have a new company with a London address. I don’t expect to receive a replacement alarm from Peter when ‘his’ stocking problem resolves.
Update - 4/12/23 - My cynicism has proven to be wrongly placed. My apologies to Peter. A replacement alarm arrived in the post today. Now fitted and working. Still don’t believe he’s a human.
Beware
Everything seems fine, until something goes wrong, then the company doesn’t want to know.
I have had no response to my emails. There is no other way of contacting the company.
Legislation should not allow companies to set up which are fraud, they advertised themselves as complaint with new Scottish legislation. These claims should be checked out.
Beware and check out companies first. These alarms were not cheap.
Buy a legitimate brand
Short summary to begin with then I'll tell you the full story. I bought these alarms, was warned of them before I received them, cancelled the order and received a full refund, can't fault the company in that regard.
I was getting some electrical work done in my house and my friend, who was the electrician doing the work asked if I had thought about getting new smoke alarms to bring me up to speed with the new legislation. Funnily enough just the week before I had bought one of the bundles from Fireguard+, hadn't received them yet. My friend asked where I had got them and warned me that a lot of disreputable companies had sprang up punting cheap Chinese alarms for vastly inflated prices, targeting people panicking about getting their homes compliant. I said the name of the company and I had done my homework, read the reviews and it seemed legit. He frowned and said he was pretty sure that was one of the companies he was on about and said look it up, it'll be a new company, no history and sure enough all of the reviews (mainly positive I hasten to add) were recent. He said these companies will flog a load of alarms over the next couple of years then fold before bad things start happening, word gets out or people run into issues with the alarms. I cancelled the order and to be fair to the company I received a full refund fairly quickly. My friend said he could supply me with legitimate battery alarms from a reputable manufacturer for a similar price but as he was doing electrical work anyway the additional wiring work for wired ones wouldn't take long, so getting wired ones from him actually cost me less (wired alarms are cheaper than battery ones as the battery in them is only for backup as opposed to the main power source) than the Fireguard ones.
So I ended up with Aico alarms, these are made by a company called Ei electronics who are a long standing company with a manufacturing plant in Ireland. My friend is a registered installer of them so I also got a certificate stating they had been installed and tested correctly in accordance with the manufacturers procedure. He said that basically all electricians use them because they are A: good, B: affordable and easy to get for tradesmen (basically all tradey places stock them) and C: reliable so they don't get hassle with people complaining about their alarms going wrong. I cynically said, yeah yeah you just pedal them because you get a decent trade discount on them and screw me with the markup, to which he chuckled and said well yes of course I buy lots of them so I get a good deal and make a few quid on each alarm but even so you would struggle to get reputable ones any cheaper and sure enough. He also said FireAngel and Kidde alarms are ok but they are marketed more towards the consumer market (sold in B&Q, screwfix etc) so are more expensive, shiny packaging etc.
On review now, several months later, the reviews would suggest my friend was right and this Fireguard+ is a one manned band company set up importing cheap alarms in bulk and selling them on, it will no doubt disappear in a couple of years.
In short, you get smoke alarms because in a fire they can save you and your families lives, why skimp on that? Lots of companies have sprung up from nowhere taking advantage of the new legislation with no history. I had just assumed getting a professional to install a recognised brand of alarms would be eye wateringly expensive but it wasn't so. Note the electrician who did mine was my friend as I state but it wasn't a "homer" or "mates rates" cash job, he certainly wasn't ripping me off but I was paying his full rate. I would say as a guide, if a tradesman is charging for the physical alarm itself anything up to what you can get it for online yourself then that is reasonable (they make a few quid off the trade price, you don't pay any more than you would have to anyway, everyone wins) if it is way more then they are taking the mick. Yes there will be time to install and there is a trade off, wired alarms are cheaper to buy and replace in 10yrs time but are more work to install. Come to think that was another thing he warned me on, if you get a dodgy brand of wired ones, the company might not exist in 10 years (all alarms should be replaced in 10years) you might need to get complete new ones wired in as opposed to clipping a new one into the existing base.
Battery ones are an option, you can do it yourself, just make sure you get a decent brand as mentioned above (you can get Aico ones online). You can also get a mixture, so long as they can all talk to each other, again get a reputable brand. A reputable electrician will put up battery ones in a normal sized house in a couple of hours and give you a certificate stating they have been positioned, set up and tested correctly for piece of mind and to avoid any nonsense with insurance or when it comes to selling your house.
