My single website struggles for resources on their top level plan
As of today Geek Ghost charges a discounted $5.95 per month ($14.99 full price) for their top level unlimited Pro plan ("for large projects).
The plan offers:
Unlimited Disk Space
Unlimited Bandwidth
FREE SSL Certificates
Unlimited Websites
Unlimited Subdomains
Unlimited Email Accounts
Unlimited Email Storage
cPanel Control Panel
Easy To Use Website Builder
One-click Script Installer
99% Uptime Guarantee.
It sounds great, right?
The reality is this:
Physical Memory - 256MB
I/O - 1MB/s
While they generously used the word "unlimited" quite a few times in their advertising/pricing table, what they don't tell you (actually, they don't mention the memory, and I/O restricted figures anywhere before you buy the service) is that the plan is heavily limited in memory and I/O.
My single small (tiny) 4-posts Wordpress website caused their server to hit resource limits quite a few times tonight. My website went down with errors 503 (Service Unavailable) and 500 (Internal Server Error) when I simply clicked on Add New Post in my wordpress dashboard.
I opened a support ticket to their technical support, who tried to convince me that these resources were sufficient to run 1 wordpress website. Well, clearly they were not, otherwise my website would not have hit the server limits and gone down unavailable about 4 times in one evening. There goes the 99% Uptime Guarantee, lol.
In my honest opinion, Geek Ghost try to mislead you into purchasing their top plan by using plenty of times the word "unlimited" in their plan advertising on their website. In fact, you don't get such a great "unlimited" plan suitable for "large projects". I have the feeling it's just big words to trap you into purchasing, without giving you the full picture, unless, of course, by a "large project" they mean a single 4-post wordpress website. In which case, I stand corrected and will take my words back. Highly unlikely, though.
Imagine you go to a car dealership where you are offered a brand new sports car with great top speed stats, awesome looks, expensive leather interior. You buy and proudly sit in it, only to find out it's a flash new version of Fred Flintstone's car - you power it with your own feet. That's how I felt tonight.
However, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I hope they find something else was the culprit, fix it, and I will gladly edit this review. Until then, unfortunately, the above is my sad reality.
