Beware Unfair Intermediation: Exposing Risky Deposit Terms
I was quite surprised by the terms and conditions imposed by this agency, which seem to border on legality.
After viewing a flat, the agency requested my personal information and then demanded a €250 fee to submit my application to the landlord. What’s concerning is that this fee is non-refundable if I decide not to sign the lease. Typically, this might be reasonable if there were a clear contract from the landlord and a set response deadline provided in advance, but neither is the case here.
Under the current terms:
1. I could potentially wait months for a response, find the wait too long, choose another property, and still lose my €250.
2. If the contract with the landlord turns out to be unsatisfactory, I would forfeit the €250. The dilemma here is clear: how can I commit to a contract without having the opportunity to review it first?
The agency's disregard for applicants' time and financial stakes is concerning and warrants closer examination to ensure fairness in rental practices.
