The whole team at Gracie Jiu Jitsu Tameside are brilliant - kind, informative, experienced, and so friendly and fun. I joined thinking I'd go to the women's class only but quickly changed my mind and have enjoyed all of the sessions. The team really have built such a supportive culture no matter who you're training with or your level. I always leave feeling really happy and calm. No other exercise like it and with a fab social side, too!

I feel much safer during my time in school and out with friends knowing I have the ability to escape difficult situations I’ve also gained more confidence and friends during my lessons time it’s truly an amazing experience every time I would highly recommend

I have tried many sports / fitness classes due to my very short attention span, usually getting bored after a couple months.

I’ve been at gracie now 15months each lesson is captivating and allowed me to stick with it.

Myself & my family have been attending Gracie Jiu Jitsu Tameside for many years now & we wouldn’t have it any other way. I turned 50 last year, but I find the benefits from attending classes are invaluable. The mindfulness, exercise & self defence with the support from my training partner & the amazing instructors/staff, help with the day to day of life immensely!! Best BJJ Gym for all ages.

As a teacher, I adore: structure, consistency & clarity. IF you're looking for a curriculum focused BJJ experience with access to hundreds of online sources delivered by the Gracie family themselves to help you anywhere and anytime then this is the place for you.

I've been to MMA focused dojo's or Competition focused places before and their ethos is more chaotic, making the learning process difficult and more akin to trial by fire.

The folks at Gracie Tameside run a flawless experience, if you want to learn BJJ for self defense (or for competition if you're willing to do the research I found) then this is the ideal location. Their process eliminates ego and by the time you start heavy sparring all the gorillas who snap your tendons are gone and what remains is the group of people who genuinely want you to improve both mentally and physically.

I've been attending the combatives class at Gracie Tameside for almost a year and it has been fantastic.
It has helped me get healthier, destress, make friends and learn some fantastic techniques that can be applied to both life and jiu jitsu.

TLDR: The instructors are keen, the classes are fun, informative and a fantastic form of exercise. If you are considering it I cant recommend it enough. It has become a staple of my week and I dont see that changing any time soon.

The instructors are friendly, informative and very keen to help people reach their potential.
James, Alex and Danni have always had time to answer all the daft questions that I've asked with a professional and complete answer helping me to fully understand moves or concepts.
Classes are well structured and thorough helping you reach an understanding for your ability. with each hour class focusing on a standing and ground move I've never felt overwhelmed or bored of the move I was working and as you work through all of the classes you will start to see how all of these techniques come together and can be applied together.
James or Alex are always on hand to help correct and support if you are struggling with pointers or tips. As well as suggesting alternative moves if you are unable to complete a move due to a difference in size or strength.

If you are looking for a great community of people to learn self defence or sports jiu jitsu with you will be hard pressed to find a better place.

I joined GJJ Tameside around three months ago now and I have felt a massive improvement, not just in practice but also my confidence inside and outside of the academy. Alex and James are both incredible instructors and they have been a massive reason to why I’ve fallen in love with Gracie jiujitsu. I can’t recommend GJJ Tameside enough, I have met some incredible people here and I’m enjoying the process. It is such a beautiful place for your mind and a great way to get in physical exercise too! If you’re interested in jiujitsu, this self defence programme is the best place to start!

Gracie Jiu Jitsu Tameside has been an unparalleled force of positivity in my life over the past year. Joining this community in January 2023 has proven to be the single best decision, I've made in my adult life. Beyond the expected physical benefits and the exceptional, easily digestible Jiu Jitsu instruction, the impact on my personal growth and well-being has been profound.

Unexpectedly as a direct result, I’m happier! I've also discovered more about myself, gained confidence, and become a better-rounded individual. Gracie jiu jitsu Tameside, is truly helping me overcome challenges that once seemed insurmountable. Its playing a pivotal part in me overcoming obstacles (like past childhood trauma) Something, I was beginning to think, I would never get past.

The sense of community, culture and camaraderie at Gracie Jiu Jitsu Tameside is incomparable; it’s second to none. The people here are extraordinary, and I've forged lifelong friendships.

Alex and James, are incredible instructors, they are insanely skilled in Jiu Jitsu and their passion and enthusiasm is infectious! But beyond that. And arguably more importantly, they are also legendary leaders and phenomenal people both on and off the mats.

Unhesitatingly, I admit to deliberating and postponing my decision to join Gracie Jiu Jitsu Tameside at first. Due to nervousness. But after meticulous contemplation over several months (Sept- Jan) months mentally preparing, combing through every review on various platforms, and seeking out every piece of information available, I finally took the plunge. Attending my first class in January. I can confidently affirm that, the decision to join. Has been more than worthwhile for me. Despite the natural nervousness and delay that came with it. My only regret? Not joining sooner!

It seems fitting that I now, find myself contributing to the pool of reviews for others to peruse. It appears I’ve come full circle.

So when i started i was a bit nervous and didnt really know what to expect but,my concerns were unfounded and it has been a great decision to train at gracie tameside..the instructors are ace and i enjoy training more and more each session and the other students are ace and make me feel comfortable...do yourself a favour and join today... you wont regret it.

Been a few months now and love it. The instructors are great people and can’t help enough. The classes are great and it’s the most friendly environment I’ve even been in. I’ve been gyms and CrossFit for many years but this highlights how unfriendly the CrossFit community I was in was.

Alex and James are extremely knowledgable and provide structured, informative and enjoyable sessions as well as creating a friendly community!

Stop thinking about going and just go, you won't regret it!

I have been training at Gracie Tameside since April, and have found the experience to be fantastic.

- The curriculum is clearly laid out to its students, so you are aware of what techniques are upcoming. Additionally with your access to Gracie University, this allows to plan ahead for the month to ensure you can catchup on techniques you may have missed, or otherwise want to revise.
- The coaches Alex and James are friendly, professional and informed, and have clearly created a welcoming, supportive, safe and equal learning environment for anyone to develop regardless of their background.

Everytime I step onto the mat at Tameside GJJ, the outside world disappears. No ego, no tension, no nonsense.

The instructors give clear advice and make everybody feel welcome. From the young kids learning to deal with bully's, to the adults learning to control themselves...everyone smiles when they are on the mat.
