My wife and I have just returned home after 11 nights in Southern Africa organised through Greatest Africa. My wife is an ambulant wheelchair user and working with a company that was sympathetic to this requirement was critical to the success of our trip. Richard from Greatest Africa far exceeded our expectation in this regard and I could not recommend him more highly for anybody requiring some extra TLC when going on Safari in Southern Africa. From a pre-booking zoom call, to ensure he understood our restrictions, to texts at each transfer, to ensure all was OK, Richard demonstrated his focus on ensuring we had the best possible experience.
Our trip involved two safaris in the Kruger area – three nights at each of Kapama Southern Camp and Sambavati George. The first is a fully enclosed private game reserve adjoining Greater Kruger and the second is open to Kruger. The game viewing experiences are different (higher accessibility to the game at Kapama which “guaranteed” finding game on each drive and a greater sense of adventure in finding game at Sambavati George. We concluded that the combination of the two was ideal for first -time safari goers. This was followed by two nights at Victoria Falls – just enough time to go on a sunset cruise; walk along the Fall, lunch at The Victoria Falls Hotel and have a Helicopter ride over falls. We finished with two nights in Cape Town which was insufficient to do it justice. This trip involved multiple transfers and Richard ensured we were meet at each stage of our journey, reducing the stress of arriving at strange airports.
We could not fault either of the lodges or the three hotels we used; African Rock Hotel Johannesburg (one night – transfer) Ilala Lodge Hotel in Victoria Falls (2 nights) and Queen Victoria Hotel Cape Town (two nights). In all cases the rooms were spacious and the fittings first class. The view from our balcony at Ilala Lodge Hotel was a highlight. The food at both lodges was first class – with a good variety offered for every meal. George is a smaller more intimate operation – we were one of about six groups in residence whereas Kapama is somewhat larger. Our guides at Kapama and George (Kenneth and Joe respectively) were outstanding. Both clearly had a passion for their job and delighted in successfully finding the game. For Joe this meant getting out of the vehicle to examine the tracks of the game leading to a successful 10-15 minute “track” of a leopard; probably the highlight of my trip. Tongue very much in cheek I rate the safaris as 9/10 – we saw all five of the big five and four of the ugly five – that equals nine out of 10 right?
Thanks to Richard’s proactive dealing with the accommodation, we were invariably positioned centrally (reducing the need to walk long distances) and at Kapama, Ilala Lodge and Queen Victoria we were provided with a loan wheelchair. Possibly as a consequence Richards attention to detail, we are given an upgraded room in Kapama that ensured a central location. We elected not to take the electric wheel chair my wife typically travels with, in the anticipation that this would not be required while on safari – that was a correct assumption The loan chairs in both Victoria Falls and Cape Town meant we could get out and about without dealing with the bureaucracy of airlines and electric wheel chairs. Transfer through the airports was generally OK, although on one occasion Skylink dropped the ball. However, once we were with the transfer agents that Richard arranged everything was great
In summary Richard and Greatest Africa provided outstanding service leading to an extremely enjoyable and stress-free holiday experience. We are already taking about the great migration and if that goes ahead out first stop will be Greatest Africa. Some may read this and think my praise for Richard is a little over the top. I don’t think it is – rather it simply reflects the great job he did.

What can I say.... We have never been on a safari before and boy what an experience! From start to finish we had amazing time. There isn't anyway this trip couldn't of been better. Accommodation was luxury, staff were amazing and super friendly, food was exceptional. The guides (sipho and taboo) went well out of their way to make sure we seen everything we wanted to see and more. They were also really funny and great company. We had our last evening meal at a boma under the stars with a fire in the middle of the enclosure it was really special. It wasn't over crowded there were only a handful of people there, we had a private safari which we never expected. I will 100 percent visit kapama buffalo again. Well done to everyone at the camp you did a phenomenal job.

I was really unsure where to book. This was our first safari and my first time in South Africa. Richard was amazing start to finish. Once I had booked he continued to give me recommendations for things to see in Cape Town (where I was staying after the safari). Kapama was amazing! I absolutely cannot fault a single thing. I am so glad we booked there with Richard. It made our trip. Eveything was perfect!

Vanessa helped us organise our ‘bucket list’ trip to South Africa and it didn’t disappoint. A week on safari in Sabi Sands/Timbavati and a week in Cape Town and the winelands. Vanessa was extremely reliable and responsive. Everything went like clockwork in a country that can sometimes be a little volatile. Our trip was truly wonderful, and we had the most amazing time. I made arrangements with The Greatest Africa company for my 2 daughters and myself between March 24 and April 02 with a 4 day safari at Timbavati Nature Reserve and Kings Camp. Unbelievable service and all worked like a Swiss Watch. Then 3 nights in Capetown and 2 nights in Stellenbosch. Everything was handled very well with superb accommodations, transfers, sightseeing and internal flights. Can highly recommend this company with Richard Hilton as the MD, and his very capable staff.

We had a great time in the Cape Town area over Christmas and New Years 2023.
Greatest Africa gave us several options so we could with their experience combine our own preferences, it worked out very well.
The suggestion to move to different hotels every three nights was perfect. We could explore the neighbourhood without the need for long transports. It was exciting transferring to the next area after a few days. We really loved the fantastic stay at Auberge Clairmont in Franschoek.
The dinner at Petit Combine will be remembered for ever. Take the chance and reserve a table if you have the possibillity, you will not regret it.
