Great tour manager. Great Coach Drivers. Good excursions. Reasonable accommodation.
A lovely two part tour. The first half: Harrogate, York, Whitby - both York & Whitby very crowded with end of summer visitors. Second part: Bamburgh, Holy Island, Alnwick - all spectacularly beautiful. A great tour manager Martin Smith ensured that everyone was informed of itinerary timings and provided lots of useful historic information. The only criticism is that the service in both hotels was a little variable and the early morning starts meant that breakfasts were slightly rushed.
There was an excellent balance between tours and leisure time. The hotels were good, the Harrogate better than the other Food was OK. The scenery was spectacular; the stops were very enjoyable.
Not one of the best Great Rail holidays. Too much coach travel and not enough train travel. Did not have a steam train on the heritage rail trip which was disappointing.
Lovely guide. Places visit were lovely
Enjoyable and well organised but too much crammed into too short a time. Needed more down time for the age group which it mainly caters for.
Excellent hotels especially the one in Harrogate. Very helpful friendly guide.
Very full days of interest, castles, railways and beautiful scenery all carefully managed by the tour leader
Very enjoyable, a few tweaks would improve the trip
The Harrogate inn was good be we didn't get the rooms we were paid for until we questioned it , then at Linden hall same thing happened as above the lift wasn't working the 3 days we were there and the food was just edible

Antwoord van Great Rail Journeys
We would have given 5 stars but for the evening meals at the first hotel - delay and sometimes absence of what was ordered. Mr Harris being on a low fat diet, it was only the intervention of Heather who, by the way, was excellent, that they provided a low fat spread for breakfast. We would certainly give Heather 5 stars and the tour content 5 stars.
Well organised good tour manager
Nice trip. Excellent Tour Manager. Pity about the evening meal service at Harrogate Inn.
Good value for money go
It was great, everything we expected.
It was a well organised tour to a lovely part of the North East. The tour manager was very supportive of everybody. I enjoyed it enormously.
Very nice holiday and very well organised would recommend to all
The tour was excellent apart from the Linden Hotel, which was very tired looking. Our bedroom was in need of redecorating, especially the carpet and the bathroom as a whole. A large glass of Cabernet Sauvignon was £20. The Harrogate Hotel was perfect, as we're the various trips during our stay.
Booking was really simple and the reservations staff were very helpful and quick to reply to questions or requests by phone and email. It was our second holiday with GRJ and it was lovely with plenty of interesting locations and train journeys, together with views of the stunning Northumberland coast. A nice introduction to an area we had not visited before. The tour was well paced for us with plenty of spare time although on some days this time might have been better spent back at the hotel. We had a great tour manager, Mary, who was efficient and well informed and made our trip very special. Neil, our first coach driver, gave plenty of commentary on the area with many amusing stories. The Harrogate Inn was pleasant and very well located although working out which guest had ordered which dish resulted in a rather slow and chaotic dinner time. The Linden Hall Hotel was also well placed and in beautiful grounds. It is, however, a shame that the evening meals in the hotel restaurant fell far short of the standard one would expect from Macdonald Hotels. However, all in all, it was an excellent holiday and I am looking forward to my next Great Rail Journey.
