A Difficult Reality for Vulnerable Claimants

I’m sharing this for anyone who may one day have to navigate a large insurance claim while also dealing with stress, trauma, or mental health challenges.

I experienced a total loss due to a fire and submitted a significant claim. I made every effort to cooperate—providing documentation, responding to requests, and even submitting additional information and corrections when asked.

Despite this, my claim was ultimately denied.

What I want others to understand is not just the outcome, but the process. Managing a claim of this size is extremely complex. It requires organization, accuracy, and emotional resilience—things that can be very difficult if you are already struggling.

Over several months, I spent hundreds of hours trying to meet expectations and support my claim. The investigation process felt overwhelming and, at times, intimidating. As someone managing PTSD, the pressure and scrutiny had a serious impact on my mental health.

At one point, the stress became so significant that I required psychiatric care.

I recognize that insurance companies operate within policies and procedures. However, my experience felt highly impersonal. I often felt like I was being assessed as a file rather than as a person going through a loss.

For those who are vulnerable or managing health challenges, I would strongly caution: do not go through a large claim process alone. Seek support early—whether legal, professional, or personal.

This experience changed how I view insurance. When choosing a provider, it may be worth considering not just cost or coverage, but the level of support and human connection available when things go wrong.

I am sharing this so others can be better prepared than I was.

PREMIUM GOUGING

In 2020 I was with RSA Insurance (home). They were bought by Intact in 2021. I can only blame myself for not keeping on top of this. Since 2020, my premium has gone up by more than 140%. Yes, that is accurate. Since insured by Intact (2023-don't have '22 paperwork). Premium has increased +106%. From last year to this years renewal it increased +16%. Having said that. No renovations other than maintenance done to my home. Only inflation and whatever they deemed the value. I made no changes to my policy. This year I paid attention and Intact wouldn't budge. I went with Belair and bundled my (1) car insurance. With better home coverage. I saved over $3600 on my house premium. WOW!! One more thing...I cancelled before the renewal date but they managed to take their automatic withdrawal of $400+. Now I'm to understand its going to take them over two weeks to refund me that money. It's my opinion that Intact (as well, other's) are just legal criminal organizations ! Be careful. Do your due diligence. They could care less.

Horrible experience on a small claim

Horrible experience with a relatively small claim from a hit and run accident. The entire process took 6 weeks on a $6000 repair on a two year old Dodge Ram. I had to personally coordinate an extension on the rental car 4 times during the process and the adjuster ignored my email questions 7 times. I will not renew my auto and home policies with the company

I have a prestine driving record for 30…

I have a prestine driving record for 30 yrs!! No tickets, no crashes. Someone cracked my bumper in a parking lot and I made the mistake of using my insurance for insurance. Now I am paying over $450/month for six years for a crack in my bumper!!! Scam!! They won't budge. Disgusting theives.

I cannot believe I'm writing this.

This is a big company.
I have asked for a new agent to handle my business.
The current one takes up to 9 days to email Me back which is incredibly unprofessional...
Now corporate is taking days (not hours) to get me a new rep.
This is unbelievable.
Just terrible

Cancelled my insurance without telling me

This company cancelled my insurance without telling me!! When I enquired as to why they were totally unhelpful. Only as a consequence of the broker's (CTH) intervention was the matter resolved. Having now seen Intact's appalling reviews I now intend to ask the broker to place the business elsewhere

I would rate zero stars if I could.

I cancelled my policy with them before the renewal date yet they still took payment on March 9. I have made two phone calls during this time. They said the funds will be returned on March 27. It’s now March 28 and the payment has not been returned to me. This is a scam of a company please stay away from them.

My late brother had his condo insurance…

My late brother had his condo insurance with Intact Insurance Co..
Sadly, he suddenly & unexpectedly passed away in early August 2023
Intact was notified of his passing & that I was the Executor of his Estate and despite concerns agreed to insure his empty condo until the New Year 2024
After that, I never heard from them until a week ago advising of past due payments, which I immediately paid in full.
After that, they advised that they had cancelled his policy effective January 8th, as they "had called his cell phone repeatedly, leaving messages & e-mails notifying of the past due status & did not receive any response"
I tried to explain that it was VERY difficult for someone that is DEAD to respond to voicemail & e-mails, however, they refused to reconsider.
Thanks for NOTHING Intact.
I hope everyone reads this before considering doing business with such a cold unfeeling company

IMPORTANT ADVICE!!!!

please use a lawyer or(can't believe I'm saying this as I don't like them)claims company if you have a claim against them,I tried doing it myself,it was(is) horrendous,they. Call you a liar,or do be exact'i cant believe that's true'was the words used.they treat you like
A criminal,don't. Believe a word you say.demand personal information,so Please please heed this advice claim no 001-01-165648

Intact Insurance

Intact Insurance: No coverage, but tried to charge me
Applied for Uber business insurance. Documents sent Monday — no issues raised.
Two days later: policy cancelled effective April 14. They silently rejected business use without notice.
I never had any coverage. Yet they wanted to charge almost a full month.
Thanks to my broker, we got cancellation backdated to today + charged only pro-rata for the few review days (no fee).
Very disappointed. Do not recommend Intact.

WARNING - The customer is not the priority!!

Intact is the epitome of what's wrong with the insurance industry. Its so clear that this corrupt industry owns the government just like the banks so they can do literally whatever they want to the consumer. Don't even waste your breath on these clowns as they don't care about you.
The insurance industry has demonstrated, time and again, a staggering lack of ethics, transparency, and basic moral responsibility. Companies like Intact appear far more committed to protecting profit margins and executive bonuses than honouring the very purpose for which consumers pay them: protection and support.

Intact are a truly shocking Insurance…

Intact are a truly shocking Insurance company. They accept your premiums but when you try and make a valid claim under your policy prevarication. Obfuscation and inability to even understand their own policy wordings rules.
In the pantheon of poor insurance companies they are number one for appalling customer service and despite being signed up to the FCA’s treating customers fairly charter their claims staff must have missed that particular in house training session. If I could have given them no stars I would but the lowest I could give was one star and even that is thoroughly undeserved.

Shoddy service from start to finish

Shoddy service from start to finish. No communication at all for a none fault claim, didn’t ask for dash cam footage etc until over a month after the claim. Repair centres also shoddy with no communication

j'ai laisser un message et aucune…

j'ai laisser un message et aucune reponse et de plus apres un accident pas responsable apres 3 mois aucune reponse serieusse qui laisse entrevoir mon reglement encore .
J'ai verifier le prix que me couterais les meme protection avec un autre compagnie et j'ai des resultats de plus de$500 de moins (j'ai 4 auto )
je garde l'assurance sur mes 4 auto 12 mois par annee et en plus 6 mois par annee 3 de mes auto ne sorte pas ...un vrais cadeau je leur ai faite depuis plusieurs annee et jamais eu d'accident responsable ... 1 seul accident que j'ai eu a ete avec une femme qui a perdu control de son auto .... depuis au moins 3 semaine aucune reponse .. ils ont essayer de me faire scrapper mon vehicule pour un coin de bumper casser et un petite boss de 3 pouces sur le bout de l'aile ... un vehicule que j'ai en parfaite ordre et fonctionne toujours en ce moment il a meme un nouveau moteur et transmission et incroyable de voir comment il est dans un etats impecables un VRAIE 4x4 2010

My case was grossly mismanaged

My case was grossly mismanaged. I am in complete disgust in how I was treated as a long time customer. First of all I could rarely get a hold of the guy who was managing my case. I had to call the phone line a ton of times and explain it to a different person every single time and then was promised something that was not delivered. My car was also relocated without warning or consent which caused major stress and I had to drive far to collect my personal things. I asked to escalate my case multiple times and speak with a manager and was told multiple times that a manager would call me back and they never did. This caused me so much stress I am hard pressed to stay with the company after this experience

After decades of paying insurance premiums we had a problem with a leaking roof. Intact's efforts went into making excuses for denying the claim instead of being helpful. If you're insured with Intact it certainly doesn't provide peace of mind. When there's a problem, you're on your own.

Je déconseille très fortement cette compagnie d’assurance Radia Zaidi l’experte en sinistre d’intact à refuser d’examiner le rapport de police et avait déjà décider de nous imputer la responsabilité de l’accident pourtant le rapport des policier disaient le contraire
