Japanese Guest Houses Reviews 

For the past week or so we have been trying to look into booking on this site. It continuously shows "Due to excess demand, new accounts are disabled, we will enable them shortly. Thanks for your patience." There is no indication of if this is a short term problem or if it is a long term problem. For me, shortly is significantly less than a week. There is no option for support so my only option is to post a review.

What a great service!!! Vincent Perez was helpful, timely, and broke things down in a very digestible way. It made booking a traditional ryokan a total breeze! 10/10 would use them again!

They have a great customer service and friendly to all the tourists. Our stay in Shirakawag was very much welcomed by them and we are amazed by their hospitality

I have used Japanese Guest Houses to book a stay in Magome for an overnight stay. They have been very fast and kind to help us get the stay we wanted. Upon reservation we received an email with confirmation with links to videos about staying in a Japanese ryokans which was very nice and informative.
Unfortunately we had to cancel our reservation because our journey was canceled due to the Covid19 virus. Japanese Guest Houses was very nice and helpful about the situation and the whole cancelation progress was handled without any problems.
I highly recommend Japanese Guest Houses as a fast, professional and trustworthy service when booking a ryokan, and I will definitely use them next time I need to book a stay in a ryokan.

Japanese guest house help to arrange the reservation stay at Shirakawago Koemon, prompt response and helpful. Highly recommend to book via Japanese guest house. A great experience staying at gassho, the meals prepared by host was delicious and vert friendly although cant communicate with host in Japanese, we use google translation :D plus this COVID -19 I was worry the host may cancel our reservation. Lucky everything went smoothly and we are back in Singapore safely. This is my 2nd stay at gassho, last visit i booked via Japanese guest house as well and stay at Shimizi, a nice gassho too!

We recently spent 2 nights in Ainokura as we wanted to stay in an old farmhouse and explore the UNESCO villages including Shirakawa-gō. We read that Ainokura was less touristy and this was correct. It seemed more authentic somehow, without the buses and tourists. We stayed at Choyoman Ryokan and our hostess, Miyume, was wonderful, the food was incredible and very authentic with fresh river trout baked in the open pit. Out beds were warm and the hot tub, great. We were delighted to find a shrine in our room! Highly recommend this incredible country experience in Japan.

Had a great stay at Kanja.
The hosts didn't speak any English but were very hospitable and breakfast and dinner were lovely traditional Japanese meals.
I think to fully enjoy shirakawago, it is best to stay over night to enjoy the peace and quiet once all the tourist buses leave....a wonderful destination!

We stayed in Shirakawa-go No Yu... perfect for us, travelling with younger and older children. 9 of us. Meals included were splendid. Onsen was amazingly comfortable.

It was a great experience we had overnight in this little village at shirakawago .
However , below few point that I think could have been improved for better stay .
The room was cold , the heater didn’t work well .
Restricted shower time activities and curfew imposed after 2200hours .
May be that’s the customs of Japanese .
Basically after dinner , the town is in pitch black with no activities, no shop open .
Nonetheless, the dinner and breakfast was sumptuous,
The owner were friendly

Japanese Guess House have a great customer service, quick response and provide excellent information to all the traveller. They knows we are keen to stay in Shirakawago village and trying to work out based on our requirement as well as suggested alternative date to stay since the date we wanted are not available. Their email response is superb!!! Well done!
We had stayed in Hisamatsu Guest House for 2 days 1 night, Such a wonderful stayed. Host was very friendly, able to speak and understand simple English, Breakfast and dinner prepared by the host was delicious. We had a great experience to stay in Hisamatsu Guest House. Highly recommended! 👍

Just loved our Gassho experience at Kanjya...the accommodation was very comfortable and the food was delicious. Our host was delightful. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Nice guest, she allowed us to store our luggage before and after the check in and check out time.
She explained everything. It was a really great experience.
Heater is furnished so you won’t get cold during the night. It is a traditional experience you must do while in Japan.
We had an amazing breakfast and dinner, it was quite perfect. We had a blast !

Me and my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Yamanayado Onsen. The outdoor onsen whilst it was snowing was like something from a movie, it was amazing. The staff were very friendly and went above and beyond to cater to your every need. The only thing I would say is that they should also provide lunch. Having breakfast at 7am and waiting for a 7pm dinner was very hard and we were both very hungry throughout the day with no access to any food. Overall we loved it and would recommend it to others.

It was a good standard hotel with very nice and helpful staff and good food. The Onsen was OK but they could fix a better view from the bath. The music in the lobby was very monotonous.

I booked Yamanoyado Bekkan for one night. It’s such a peaceful place and onsen was very perfect. Food was really traditional style but tasty. I did enjoy and happy to be there. Though it took a long time to be there, once arrived, I never ever left. All were amazing and over my expectation.

We stayed at Zekkeino Yakata guest house in Matsushima for two days and nights. It was truly a magical experience and a true flavour of the Japanese way of life and our trip of a life time would not have been complete without our stay here. A beautiful location too. Thank you very much.

We were forced to cancel because Typhoon Hagibis stopped the trains. We called 2 days in advance to seek advice and told to wait until the morning of our booking to check if trains were running which they were not. Rang again and the Magomechaya cancellation charge was 100%!!
