I booked this expedition with high expectations, but unfortunately my experience was disappointing.
Having participated in many mountaineering expeditions over the years, I found this one to fall well below my expectations in terms of planning, flexibility, and customer support.
The allocation of the buffer days within the itinerary reduced their effectiveness. By placing them only at the end of the expedition, they could not be used to provide flexibility when health or acclimatization issues arose during the trek.
Early in the trip, I informed the guides that my nephew was suffering from diarrhoea before we ascended from Jispa (around 3,000 m) to Manali Base Camp (around 4,700 m). Given the flexibility built into the itinerary, I had expected consideration to be given to whether delaying the ascent would have been appropriate.
When my nephew later became unwell at altitude, I agreed that descending was the right decision. However, after we reached Manali, I expected greater assistance in exploring practical alternatives. Although we were initially told that different options were available, no realistic alternative was ultimately proposed. Instead, we were advised to return home early, and the only option for continuing our trip involved additional accommodation and transportation costs at our own expense.
From that point onwards, I felt that the support we received was limited. There was little follow-up, no practical assistance in reorganising the remainder of our trip, and no alternative programme to replace the part of the expedition that we were unable to complete.
After the expedition, I raised these concerns directly with the company. Based on the response I received, I did not feel that there was any acknowledgement of the issues I had raised or any willingness to discuss an appropriate form of compensation. Instead, I was left with the impression that the outcome was regarded as entirely my responsibility.
I would also like to acknowledge the positive aspects. The team helped us with several logistical matters, including providing a visa invitation letter, assisting us in obtaining a SIM card, helping with my mobile phone, and offering other practical assistance. I genuinely appreciate those efforts.
Overall, based on my personal experience, I do not feel that this expedition provided the level of planning, flexibility, contingency management, and customer support that I had reasonably expected from a professionally guided mountaineering company.
I hope the company receives this feedback in the constructive spirit in which it is intended. My aim is not simply to express disappointment, but to encourage improvements in expedition planning, contingency management, and customer support so that future clients have a better experience when unexpected situations arise.
