I recently used LocalMovers.com for a move from NYC to San Francisco, and overall it was an excellent experience. A cross-country move like this can be overwhelming, but everything was handled with a high level of organization and care from start to finish.

They coordinated every step of the process—packing, transport, storage, and final delivery—and made the entire move feel smooth and well-managed. Communication was clear throughout, and everything arrived on schedule from NYC to my new home in San Francisco.

There was one unfortunate incident where a chair was damaged during the long haul. With a move of this distance, things like that can occasionally happen, and technically it wasn’t even LocalMovers.com’s responsibility since they were coordinating the move rather than physically handling every step. That said, what really stood out was how they handled it—they still stepped up and covered the cost of repairing the chair without hesitation.

That level of accountability and customer care is rare. Even when something falls outside their direct responsibility, they stand behind the experience they deliver. Because of that—and how seamless everything else was—I’d still rate this a clear 5-star experience and would absolutely recommend them.

LocalMovers.com presents itself as a marketplace of moving companies, but in reality, it functions primarily as a lead-generation broker—and that distinction is not clearly explained to consumers.

From there, one of two things usually happens: your lead is either sold to multiple companies, or the job is booked under a brokerage entity and later reassigned to a third-party carrier.

A major concern is the quality and legitimacy of the companies shown on the platform. Many listings appear to include:

Companies that no longer actively operate but still have an online footprint

Newly registered businesses with little to no operating history

Brands that exist primarily for marketing/SEO purposes rather than as established carriers

Because it is relatively easy to register a business name in the moving industry, this creates an environment where listings can look credible without having real infrastructure, crews, or long-term track records.

Another issue is transparency around pricing and responsibility. Customers are often led to believe they are booking directly with a moving company and that there are “no additional fees.” In reality, brokerage fees and margins are typically embedded into the quote. The move itself is then carried out by a separate carrier, which can lead to:

Unclear accountability if issues arise

My advice to anyone considering this platform: verify everything independently. Look up the assigned carrier, confirm their credentials, and do not rely solely on the listings presented.

He was very helpful and got me a dozen quotes in just a couple of hours to help me move some of my stuff out of a storage facility.
