I would strongly recommend that anyone considering working for this company carefully checks the terms of the role before accepting.
In my experience, the job I was told about during the interview differed significantly from the description advertised online. I also found that some aspects of the training did not reflect what I was later expected to do once I started working.
The pay structure was also a major concern for me. I was paid partly per job and partly based on hours worked, and my overall earnings were very low compared with the number of hours I worked. At times, I worked around 60 hours per week and earned approximately £200–£300. I would advise anyone considering the role to obtain the full pay structure in writing and check that it complies with applicable minimum-wage rules.
Drivers were also expected to use vehicles that, in my experience, did not display ambulance markings. I felt that the day-to-day work was very different from what I had expected from the job advertisement.
Another issue was responsibility for work-related costs. In my experience, drivers could be held responsible for parking or traffic penalties incurred while carrying out jobs, including when travelling through restricted areas in central London. I was also charged weekly amounts relating to insurance, a percentage of my income, and a £15 vehicle-cleaning charge. I understood that drivers could also be charged for certain vehicle damage, such as stone chips.
I was particularly dissatisfied with the management support I received. When I raised concerns, I did not feel they were handled appropriately or that sufficient responsibility was taken to resolve them.
This review reflects my personal experience. I would advise prospective drivers to ask for the pay rates, deductions, insurance costs, vehicle-damage policy, responsibility for PCNs and traffic charges, working hours, and exact job duties in writing before agreeing to work for the company.
