Long onboarding, zero clarity. You can spend hours on an onboarding assessment just to not be accepted by the project, without any payment.

This company is completely unprofessional. My account was disabled out of nowhere for allegedly “copying and pasting” content—a claim that is false. There’s no way to speak to a human, no transparency, and no proper support. It feels like they rely on automated systems to punish users arbitrarily. Do not trust this platform—your account can be deleted for no reason, and you will have no recourse. Avoid at all costs.

UPDATE: As I cannot respond to Outliers response, I have edited here. I can confirm that at no point did I copy and paste anything at all. I reached out to 'support' and was blocked by an AI bot that kept repeating the same thing over and over again and confirmed there was no support team that could help. Outlier has zero support to discuss their failed automated systems.

One of my former co-workers described this place as "the Fyre Festival of tech companies" and that is the best synopsis I have ever heard.

I was removed from my project in the midst of completing a task, and no explanation was ever given as to why. I kept on being told my work was great, by several of my superiors, and that I would be re-assigned to a different project.

I never was. I've come across several people with similar stories. Actually, I've heard numerous experiences that were much worse. Others even got stiffed out of the money that they were owed. Overall, Outlier is horribly disorganized, terribly mismanaged and there is no sense of meritocracy at all.

The pattern is always the same: they lure you in with promises of flexible work and decent pay. Then reality hits.

First, you spend hours completing unpaid onboarding and "training" modules — multiple assessments, sometimes 3+ hours each, just to qualify for a project. You pass, you're excited, you open your dashboard... and the queue is empty. No tasks. Just wait.

A week later, a project appears. You do a few tasks. Then it vanishes overnight — no notification, no explanation. Back to the empty queue.

I joined last year and there was at least some sporadic work. This year? Absolutely nothing. Zero projects. Zero tasks. But instead of admitting there's no work, they keep you busy with distractions: join our book club, read our newsletter about cats and random nonsense, fill out this form, write here, pass verification, apply there. It's all theater — an imitation of activity designed to keep you engaged while providing exactly zero earning opportunities.

Meanwhile, your inbox is flooded with emails telling you work is available. It isn't.

When you try to get help, you're talking to an AI chatbot that sends copy-paste responses and closes your ticket as "resolved" without actually doing anything.

The pay, when you can actually work, is laughable. Some tasks pay less than minimum wage, and the constant unpaid "screenings" mean your real hourly rate is even lower.

The community? Thousands of people asking the same question every day: "Where are my tasks?" Nobody answers.

This company extracts free labor through endless assessments, wastes your time with pointless activities, and offers nothing in return. The only consistent thing about Outlier is the spam emails.

Don't waste your time. Seriously.

Onboarding material for many projects was seemingly written by people with an extremely weak grasp of English and is incredibly vague, yet failing to answer perfectly can lead to your account getting banned. (And there are apparently unwritten non-obvious rules that can put your account in jeopardy if you don't follow them.) I had a 4.1/5 rating on the platform and was banned for an asinine reason. Incredibly infuriating, and the support team is the most incompetent support team that I've ever encountered, bar none. (And that's saying something - it's like they managed to go under a limbo bar placed on the ground.)
EDIT: Outlier's support responded to this claiming that I copied-and-pasted. However, they neglected to mention that the instructions to onboard onto a project (specifically the LaTeX assessment) said to "copy and paste" provided text. Was I supposed to ignore the instructions that they provided?
Also, I reached out to their Support center repeatedly and got the most unhelpful, obviously LLM-generated emails in response that I've ever seen. If you're going to ban copying-and-pasting to prevent AI usage, at least have the decency to not use it yourselves.

To be quite honest, you are just a lab rat, and guinea pig to them! All they seek is to take your ideas and time. No one actually knows if it’s people grading your work or AI. And even if you keep wondering what you did wrong on a task or multiple tasks and given feedback, the next time you seek to correct and improve it , you are flagged again making you wonder if this platform is even worth it? You have no idea when your next awkward review pause in tasking will be since it happens randomly, especially when you NEED TO TASK ($). Also, don't think you can outsmart them by only working on task that are easy, and comfortable to do, not requiring any review or quality score, for fear of being paused again even when you believe you did nothing wrong. Believe me, I tried it and it will get you paused faster than you can say whoah! Avoid this company at all cost! Find something more stable, more forgiving and humane. At one point whether your quality score is top tier or not… expect to be backstabbed and not even be given a single clue what you did wrong and removed from projects. You’ve been warned… save yourself the misery.

My account was suspended without reason a week ago, and I still haven't received my salary from last week. Customer service only provides automated replies; there's no manual review whatsoever. They said they would review the salary issue within two weeks, but who knows?

More update on June 12,2026：
After four weeks of waiting with no official response, all email replies have been automated, stating that I violated blabla policy or rules(without any details). Based on UK GDPR Article 15, I believe I have the right to log into my account, delete my personal information, or export my salary-related information. Therefore, I tried contacting Outlier's privacy team and CC'd their UK office, but two weeks have passed without a reply. Today, I saw a reply on Trustpilot; they were simply repeating the automated emails. Now everyone understands what this company is doing.

I had to come back and revise my previous review of Outlier. My account was permanently suspended after more than a year on the platform as an contributor and reviewer; I was part of the Oracle program and a member of the squad.
During the SFT&RLHF screening, I had to temporarily leave the house, so I switched from my home Wi-Fi to mobile data on the same device, and then reconnected to my home internet.
I believe the network change may have triggered an automatic security alert, as the suspension occurred immediately after I finished the screening.
I did not share my account, switch devices, or use any outside help.
Unfortunately, no one wants to look into the situation, and people who did their jobs well, had high ratings, and dedicated time to completing even unpaid screenings and courses are being removed from the platform, and no promised priority support is being provided.
It doesn't matter how well you perform; your account can be deleted at any time.

Update: After submitting the additional details Outlier requested via Trustpilot, I received no response. The silence speaks for itself. No appeal, no review, no accountability — just an automated decision that ended over a year of dedicated, high-rated work.

I would be happy to discuss this issue in detail if possible, since the support center only provides generic, templated responses without any specifics. Who can I speak with about this? My account was automatically deactivated after screening, and all responses were typed manually without using any third-party resources.

Terrible experience. The courses take too long and they randomly mark you as failed just to reach out later that it was a mistake. The platform is buggy and wasted so much of time. Can't believe such low quality exists in 2026

This is an application where no one supports me when my account is compromised. It's an extremely bad experience. I had my account hacked and asked for support and no one provided support. I asked to send a link to change my password to a new email. I requested it and still sent it to my old email. After the thief saw it, I changed both passwords. In general, this is a trash application.

Outlier banned me claiming I had a “duplicate account.” I never created another account with them, which leaves me with two possibilities: either they are making false accusations unfairly, or someone may be using my personal information without my knowledge.

I asked them to provide which of my personal details were supposedly linked to this “duplicate” account, but they refused and only sent automated bot responses. If someone is actually using my identity or personal information, I absolutely have the right to know.

This situation is not only unfair, it is potentially dangerous. I hold a security clearance for my regular job, and I take identity protection very seriously. The idea that someone could be impersonating me to earn money or engage in illegal activities is extremely concerning.

Before sharing your personal information or working with this company, be very careful. You may never truly know how your information is being used or handled.

EDIT: They stated that they reviewed my account and identified a violation of the Terms of Use. That is not true. I have never violated any policy.
They also encouraged me to contact their support team directly, which I have already done more than 20 times. Each time, I received only automated responses. I have saved all related emails.
Outlier has repeatedly ignored my requests for information and has now doubled down by accusing me of a violation without providing any evidence or meaningful explanation.
This is unacceptable. I am requesting a clear explanation, specific evidence of the alleged violation, and a proper human review of my case.

Account permanently banned without explanation
My account was permanently deactivated without any specific explanation. I was simply told it violated "Community Guidelines and Terms of Use," but no concrete evidence or example was ever provided.
When I asked for clarification, the response was that they "cannot share the data used in the decision to protect system integrity" — which makes any appeal or defense completely impossible.
The decision was described as final with no option to appeal, which feels deeply unfair and untransparent. If a platform can ban users permanently without showing any proof of wrongdoing, that's a serious trust issue.
I would caution anyone considering working with Outlier to be aware that your account can be removed at any time, with no real explanation and no recourse.

Update after 2 days:
Trustpilot removed my review about outlier.ai claiming it was “suspicious.” My review was based on a real experience, so this feels like yet another example of negative reviews being filtered while fake or manipulated reviews stay online.

When I first joined Outlier, it was an excellent platform. To be completely fair, their payment process is incredibly fast and highly reliable. We all joined with a shared vision and passion to contribute to the development of next-generation AI. Unfortunately, that vision has completely faded.

Recently, the platform has become utterly devoid of projects (an endless empty queue). What is even more frustrating is their current policy of suspending or closing accounts randomly. When you attempt to appeal a decision, the process feels nonexistent—appeals are unfairly rejected or ignored without transparent justification, even when the issues are clearly system errors or account reviews gone wrong.

It is deeply disappointing because Outlier was one of the first platforms I dedicated my time to. While other AI training platforms are rapidly advancing and overtaking them in the market, Outlier has unfortunately downgraded to become one of the most frustrating and unreliable platforms to work with right now.

I am not recommending Outlier, unless you want to work without getting paid.

After a long back-and-forth with the support team that seems to be bot with human names, it seems that Outlier is downsizing because they don't want to pay ICs for long work, (~200$ for a week in my case).

Please be warned with this company, they will give you early and good payments at first, and when you get good hours, they will suddenly lay you off, no explanation and their famous "This decision is final and has been confirmed through secondary human review" and "No further appeals or reviews can be conducted regarding this matter."

Also, they requested additional information but did not do anything.

Go, check my other review and many people agree with me. And again, trust the "Unprompted Reviews" and be wary of their "Invited Reviews."

Not a good experience with the company, honestly I think it’s all a front to get as much data from as many people as possible. Because they can lock you out from an account, drop you from a task and everything without you getting to ask or have someone explain. No customer service, you can get some money but when ever there are a lot of ”invited” reviews you should be suspicious. There are more serious and better company’s out there for you, this is not a good one

I've an update about my latest review after deactivation for over a month now. I found out a verification notification showed up on my dashboard a few days ago, and I did it hoping it may help reactivate my account again. They asked me to verify my face and ID card. I don't understand if they will keep my account disabled, why did they collect my personal information? although this was not the first time I did so, I verified my ID several times when my account was active, all my information is correct, my identity is correct. Although after deactivating my account, this platform still misuses my personal information without disclosing the main goal of requesting ID verification.

NOTE: The notification said: "Verify your ID to continue tasking". I really don't understand what's the point of requesting a verification while my account is still disabled after I did it? and I did it hoping they would reactivate my account but nothing changed yet.

My account was permanently suspended after two years of working on the platform as both a contributor and reviewer, without any warning or prior communication. The reasons given were "Sharing or disclosing confidential customer data or information" and "Circumventing time-tracking mechanisms," yet no evidence or explanation was provided.

I have never knowingly disclosed confidential information or attempted to manipulate time tracking. How can I defend myself against such serious allegations when I am not told what I supposedly did wrong? The lack of transparency and the ineffective chatbot support system have made this situation extremely frustrating and unfair.
