Philo has changed the price three times…
Philo has changed the price three times in 3 months! I started paying $25 for several months then it went up to $28 within a month it went to $33 and then within a month it went up to $39 when I called customer service to ask why my prices kept changing then they acted as if it was a mistake. I let go of the app for a while. Months later to revise my plan could not gain access to my account and then found out that they took payment unauthprized when I contacted them they admitted that the payment was unauthorized yet still refuse to refund. This is not the first time that they have unauthorizedly took payment from my account but it will for sure be the last do not get Philo overpriced for little to nothing to watch they will take payment from a locked account so don't think that just by locking your card will keep them from taking your money they still will take it and then refuse to pay it back They Are Thieves
Philo TV delivered garbage
Philo TV delivered one of the most aggressively miserable viewing experiences I’ve ever had the misfortune of enduring.
The movie was technically available. That is where the positives end.
On a basic browser, there is no fullscreen option. None. Not hidden, not buggy, just nonexistent. So instead of simply pressing a button like every other competent streaming service on the planet, I was forced to stop, download an app, and restart the entire process. Already off to a ridiculous start for something that should be effortless.
Then came the real disaster.
A 1 hour 10 minute movie. Twelve commercial breaks. Each one over a minute long.
That is at least 12 minutes of ads on a 70 minute runtime. Roughly 17 percent of the entire experience hijacked by commercials. And that is being conservative. It felt far worse. It felt like the movie existed only to fill the gaps between advertisements.
And these were not quick, tolerable interruptions. These were long, dragging, momentum-killing blocks that ripped you completely out of the film every single time. Just as the movie tried to build any sense of rhythm or immersion, it was immediately gutted and replaced with noise.
Worse, the ads themselves were completely out of place. Two separate 35 second gore and horror clips shoved into the middle of a casual viewing experience. No warning. No consideration. Just jarring, unpleasant nonsense that made the entire thing feel cheap and careless.
And somehow, on top of that, the targeting made no sense. Repetitive, irrelevant ads that felt like they were pulled from a completely different audience profile. It added another layer of irritation to something already unbearable.
Even if these commercials had been 15 seconds, there would still have been too many. But stretching them past a minute each crosses into pure disrespect of the viewer’s time.
By the end, I was not watching a movie. I was enduring a sequence of interruptions loosely connected by fragments of a film I could no longer care about. Any enjoyment was completely drained, replaced by frustration and impatience.
This is not just a bad streaming experience. It is a broken one.
Cons out weight the pros on Philo
While the only pro to their service is price, but the cons is definitely the commercials. they run about 25 to 30 minutes of ads on a one hour program. Problem is, its the same commercials. I just watched 7 commercials on a 5 minute ad break. 2 was for Hyundai, then 2 for progressive insurance, the the same 2 for Hyundai , then 1 for Noom. They run about 50/50 on commercials versus programming. To add insult to a commercial, right in the middle of a 5 minute commercial break, they show a commercial to get a break from commercials. This consist of a cartoon type tv , sometimes in front of a tent with a campfire, next time beside a tree in a snow storm storm, but the one i hate worse is a tv in front of a dirty street wall with graffiti covered concrete wall. Pay a little extra for sling or hulu, they have ads, but most are 1 minute to 1 1/2 minute per 7 to 10 minutes of programming. Philo goes to a 4 1/2 minute to a 5 minute commercial break for about 5 minutes of programming
I once loved Philo
I once loved Philo. It seemed to be the only app where I could watch past, current, and upcoming shows that I love. However, as one of the reviews mentioned, I was watching "Sistas" and had reached season 9 when, without warning, that season was removed, leaving only four out of the ten seasons available. What a joke!
As I write this review, I wanted to start watching "Caught in the Act," but the first three seasons are unavailable as well.
The latest issue i have been experiencing is the ability to watch Philo, when trying to watch it, i am receiving an error message, saying "an issue has occurred", in the past i was able to reload and that seemed to work, but as of lately it has not. It has noting to do with my internet because everything works fine except for Philo.
When I first subscribed to Philo, I was paying $25 a month. The price eventually increased to $37, and while I was still willing to pay that, I don't understand how the price can go up while the selection of shows decreases. I can officially say that this company is crooked, and I am canceling my subscription.
Philo is a joke
Philo is a joke. What greedy, money-hungry hippos they are. They charge $25 a month, with 3-minute commercials and approximately 12 commercials. That amounts to 36 minutes of wasted time for me. I am glad I tried the free trial, as it prevented them from getting my money. Their app sucks and glitches. Netflix is asking too much, but at least there are no commercials. I can’t wait for your company to die out, Hulu. Do not use Philo or pay for it; it is a waste of your money. Consider using Peacock or Paramount instead, as it may be more beneficial for your budget. When they start losing a lot of people, their tone will adjust, or they will just disappear. Regardless, don't use them.
Terrible service
Terrible service. Almost $40 per month and watching movies every 10 minutes you get a 2:25 minute ad
ripoff, don’t purchase
i did the free trial for this app to watch sistas in which it had all 10 seasons. then i purchased it for $25.00/monthly on today. been watching season 9, i left my frontroom and went into my bedroom only to see thats now it shows season 1,5,8,10 and not 1-10 like before. i chatted with a rep and was informed that the other season was removed and they have no control over when leaders remove seasons , etc off their apps. i was also inform
on a no refund policy in which it does not state the no refund policy nor do it state that certain shows that have full seasons can be removed. i had this app cancelled and once you go back in as if you want to buy it, its a much higher plan price then what you previously paid and you want get the same price. this app is a RIPOFF and i would NOT recommend it to ANYONE. the only thing i got out of it after speaking with ith someone higher is my rull refund back.
When the app first came out it was good…
When the app first came out it was good barely any commercials now we can sit here have 4 minutes of commercial and only 30 seconds of show and then right back to another three to four minute commercial is starting not to be worth the price because of the repeated soul nothing new is coming on and we can pretty much get all of the stuff that they have on prime
I had Philo for a few years now
I had Philo for a few years now. I really liked it because of their retro channels. I prefer older shows with morals instead of the immoral crap they put on TV today. I was paying $21 a month and then without warning, they raised it to $38 a month. As a senior on Social security I can't afford it anymore. Greed is taking over! To me it's not worth $38 for about 10 channels that I watch. I can find a lot of the shows I like for free on other sites! Goodbye Philo! Your greed just lost you this loyal customer!
Poor viewing experience
The app freezes constantly making it impossible to watch an entire movie without constantly reloading the app. Even when performing all recommended troubleshooting steps it can freeze so often that watching anything becomes impossible.
My wife loves philo because it reminds…
My wife loves philo because it reminds her of the way cable TV was during her childhood. It's great shows on the streaming app but overall philo is not worth the money. It takes you an hour to watch a 40 minute show due to the amount of adds that plays during the show. There has been times we've watched a 4 minute add, the show returns for 8 minutes then another 5 minute add, absolutely terrible.
Philo has too many ads that last…
Philo has too many ads that last roughly two minutes and thirty seconds. This is a deal breaker for me. I will be canceling very soon and go back to fubo or youtube tv.
I am a channel flipper
I am a channel flipper, which means when commercials come on I tend to change the channel. It's not convenient to change the channels. You need to set up the channels like other services do.
Also, how do I pay my monthly bill? I like to pay early when I have the money so I don't have to worry about it later and forget to pay. It's not easy to figure out.
The company has great shows and…
The company has great shows and content, but the amount of B's you have to go through to update a payment method? Absolutely not! Companies forget we don't pay for your convenience. Imagine how much business they lose.
Don't waste your time
You have to have philo and all black just to be able to watch good shows so if you don't want to pay for both subscriptions don't get philo I already left all black ill be leaving philo once this billing cycle is up. (Example)You will click on what u want to watch then it'll say they have to route you to all black to watch. Then you have to pay a higher price for that subscription nope I'm good!
I was a customer from the beginning
I was a customer from the beginning and was promised the my price was locked in as long as the account was in good standing. However this was not the case rate when up. No sport no local news and had open spots for commercials that was filled so you got to watch a philo tv on the screen. It’s my opinion that there is better streaming platforms out for your money.
I love Philo but
I love Philo but, I don't like seeing so much Rupaul on LOGO!
It used to have a great variety of programs now it just Rupaul.
To many Advertisements
I had Philo for quite a few years, then the TV programming changed, use to be able to watch old episodes of shows, then those were taken away, now its endless advertisements .. we'll guess what Philo .. you've lost a customer!
Do not purchase waste of money
Do not, I repeat.Do not purchase this philo. I purchased it to see a series. That pholo advertised it had. Well it does but you can only watch certain seasons and certain episodes. I signed up for 37.99 a month. Season 1 on starts on
Episode 9. So then I go to season 2. And I can't even bring up that season. So I go to season three, and it starts on episode nine. It definitely is not worth the money at all. It says, you can watch all the episodes of major crime. But you cannot do that. They release some different dates in january to watch seasons that are missing. Even though this program was produced in 2014, don't be tricked by getting this station. I specifically googled, where I could watch this program and philo was listed. It did not state that oh you can only watch certain seasons. And certain episodes, no, it's very misleading. It makes you think that you can watch everything on this program major crimes. Don't fall for it.Don't waste your money. It's not worth it.I will be contacting them and to get my money back.
Philo charges way too much to have…
Philo charges way too much to have advertisements during the shows. Not worth it!
