Hi There,
I am sorry to hear you have had a negative experience, there are however three separate issues here. Firstly, we do no sell, negotiate or promote UW policies. It is your responsibility to check the terms of any agreement you sign and agree to. We work on behalf of Utility Warehouse to fulfil their home cover and our office is bound to the terms of the agreement in the same way that you are.
Secondly, boilers will usually only last around 15 years, most boilers over 20 years old are not repairable due to the scarcity of parts on the market and when there are small numbers of parts remaining on the market the prices are usually astronomical.
Furthermore, a boiler is not available for purchase to the general public as you need a gas fitter to install it. List prices for boilers do not include consumables like copper, cement and fittings and are usually sold without a flue or filter so these costs need to be added. A Gas fitter's day rate is around £500 and it takes a full day to remove and install a boiler. Therefore, there is no boiler on the market anywhere that can be installed at £700 unless you are a gas fitter yourself and have all of the consumables lying around in your van. You are paying for a Safe and professional installation that meets building regulation standards, not just for a boiler unit.
Once you add VAT, I think you'll find that £1800 is an extremely good price for a new boiler and £2200 is around average if you go to the next competitor.
It sounds like your boiler was long past its life span when you took out your policy. We have not ripped anyone off, we are a genuine company who report honestly to our clients and make solid recommendations based on the age and condition of the unit.
If you would like to make a formal complaint please do so through the correct channel by calling the claims line and raising the complaint directly with the UW team.
Finally, we are not responsible for pay-outs from your policy, that is down to our parent company Preferred Management Solutions.
Thank you for your feedback, however in reality the issue is not with us (Preferred Gas) as it wasn't even our engineers who attended your property, it was a subcontractor from PMS.
