Called three times in one week trying to sort out a claim for my dog Bella after her emergency vet visit in March. Every time I was put on hold and then disconnected. Nobody called back. Nobody emailed. For a company dealing with sick animals, this level of indifference is honestly shameful. Avoid.

This company charged me £24.99 to move my pet’s microchip to PetTrac. This was a scam. They did nothing except email PetTrac. I needed up having to register my pet with PetTrac myself anyway and they told me that there shouldn’t be another charge other than the one I paid to PetTrac themselves.

I've asked Protected Pet to transfer my microchip to another company as I want my dogs with the same company. They are ignoring me. I am also trying to get to the bottom of a breach of my data which I don't have an explanation for.

Just moved from Ireland to UK with my 4 dogs. All my dogs were on the IKC database. Just come to register them on an english data base and apparently one of them is registered with this company. This company refuse to release the microchip unless I pay them £25.00................ Outrageous avoid at all costs!!!

I wouldnt even rate them 1 star! Very unprofessional with a giff gaff voicemail, I registered my pet with these cowboys from the breeder, paid the £19.99 to upgrade to active, fast forward to a week ago, I reported my pet as lost with them on my account as they didnt answer calls or emails, today I checked my dogs chip and it has been transferred to another company without my knowledge, bo attempts made to contact me, today I managed to speak via phone to a guy who was rude and insistent I wasnt active as I hadnt paid there fee to upgrade therefor they legally could transfer without my consent... I advised I had the invoice in front of me from upgrading apparently because I did it via there website it doesn't update there system.... so how on earth would I upgrade otherwise... anyway he eventually told me il be refunded for service not recieved with 10 minute's, still no refund and now no answer of calls just the voicemail.

DO NOT USE THIS 'COMPANY'.

This company is seriously dodgy, and I believe they have been struck off the Defra register. Unhelpful, absolutely useless, in fact, almost criminal!
Avoid them at all costs.

I adopted a cat and registered with this company. After paying, I noticed that none of my details or the cat's details were showing my account, so I contacted them and they sent me a link to do the registration again, which I did, but then they charged me again. Still my details were not showing on my account, so I paid twice for absolutely nothing. When I contacted them again, they were extremely unhelpful, very unprofessional and I've now had to raise a dispute with my bank to try and get my money back. Absolute nightmare.

I urge everybody to check this "company" on Company Houses. They appear to have been dissolved by compulsory strike-off in January 2024. Yes, for some reason they still appear on the Defra registered list on the government website (but we know how those are always failed to be updated). Due to this loophole, this company still logs microchip numbers of imported pets/rescues, without actually registering them, and when an individual adopts a new pet and tries to register their microchip to a reputable company, it's impossible to do. Only after my rescue charity contacted them many times, they finally agreed to "release" my cat's microchip n., but only after they were paid a release fee. It sounds like whoever is still hiding behind this company's name (I suspect one of the people listed in the Company House profile) is now running a half legal scam. I urge everyone to report them to Defra like I and some other people have. The more we do it, the more Defra will have to take notice and remove them immediately from their lists.

I have two cats that I brought from Turkey after my mother passed away. These cats were microchipped years ago in Turkey and registered in the national database there. When I moved to the UK, I wanted to register their microchip numbers here, as I did for my dog.

To my surprise, the UK system informed me that my cats' microchip numbers were already registered with ProtectedPet—a company I had never heard of and that had no connection to their history. I reached out to ProtectedPet to resolve the issue, but they demanded a transfer fee to update the ownership details.

I refused to pay the fee, as it seemed both unfair and unwarranted. ProtectedPet ignored my concerns and provided no meaningful resolution. I even wrote to Defra for clarification, and while they acknowledged that ProtectedPet's actions were questionable, they dismissed the issue as outside their control because these databases are "commercial entities."

Defra's involvement led to a claim from ProtectedPet that they had "released" the microchip numbers, but this was not true. After several attempts to resolve the issue—including repeated unanswered emails and being unable to reach anyone via phone—nothing has changed.

This situation is beyond frustrating. Pet owners in the UK are legally required to register their pets' microchips in one of the listed databases to avoid fines. However, when one of these databases engages in what feels like predatory behavior, there seems to be no oversight or recourse.

I am sharing this experience to warn others and to push for better regulation of these databases. The system should protect pet owners and their animals—not allow companies to exploit them under the guise of compliance.

Horrible experience. I soon found out my rescue was already signed up on this database. There was such an unprofessional and threatening email when I didn't complete the payment to get the pet record updated first time round. No proof of transfer was needed - as long you paid the fee. Their website isn’t stable and sometimes shows you and your pet details. Eventually, paid a fee again just to get my pet moved off of it to another microchip provider that a friend recommended.
Apparently, the company is on the list of recommended microchip databases that meet government standards: the 'GOV UK get your dog cat microchipped' page. If the UK GOV is not regularly quality-checking these providers, they should not be endorsing of them. So don't rely on the UK GOV list - do your own research and TAKE ADVICE FROM YOUR PET OWNER FRIENDS AND INTERNET REVIEWS.

I signed up with this company in order to register my pet online. They do not enter the micro chip on a central data base, their certificate is no acceptable when entering the UK, the price £39 is expensive, their staff are not user friendly nor helpful. I now have to reregister my pet on another website. Not impressed.

Why can't this be 0 stars?
This company is absolutely useless as it's impossible to change your microchip details. Looking for ways to disable the microchip and use a reliable company.

Never trust any breeder who would use this company. Cheap scam.

Rude customer service, a company prepared to charge a small fortune for even the smallest thing. £25 for a change of address (my other pets' companies charged £6).
Even changing database from them to a different company cost £30. So glad to be rid of them now.

I have a rescue and told his chip is the wrong one the vet give me this site to re register with another chip the lad on the phone was rude unhelpful I had to pay 24.99 and this is to be paid every year. I've had dogs all my life and I'm 60 now I'm not paying every year its only when you move orpass dog on or it dies he then said its to be payed ever year and he then replied so you not getting your dog a booster ever year yes I am what had his booster to do with his chip. He is registered on pettrack and petdata base so now asked for my money back .I would give a zero also

I have just got a little rescue dog and desperately need to change over the contact details. After numerous phone calls and paying £5.00 extra on my phone bill as their number is premium rate. They do not have the decency to answer my emails. The service is awful and the staff are rude and very unhelpful. I was told to change over details on line but their website does not work properly. The staff in my opinion need to be retrained in customer service. They have now stopped answering the phone, phone no not recognised. They don't even deserve 1 star. Going to take advise from my vet. ProtectedPet are the worst in my opinion.

I needed a microchip certificate to travel abroad as instructed by my vet, and the ferry company.

26th May:
Ordered on their website- or tried to, but the payment page kept crashing. So, I contacted them via email to ask how to pay and they sent me a link; fine. Order confirmed.

Two weeks passes and no certificate, so I sent an email which was ignored.
Another week passes and yet another of my emails is ignored so I call and am told another copy will go out that day first class.

Another week passes with no certificate. I sent another email requesting that another copy is sent as obviously the last one has gone missing (or wasn’t sent at all).
I finally get a reply telling me another copy will go out next day and they’ll send me the tracking number, which obviously never came, and neither did the certificate.

A week or so later, nothing.
I email yet again (bear in mind the thread is 25 emails long of which 75% are from me).

More time passes; I ring again and am told by the manager that in all her years of working there she’d never heard of anyone being asked for certificates while travelling; it’s not the point at all. I have paid for a service and not been provided it. Whether I’m asked at the border or not isn’t of anyone’s concern but mine.
She said she’d send me a copy of the tracking number (again) and a photo. I got an email with a “copy of the certificate and the tracking ID” of which wasn’t actually in the email at all- just a wonky photo of the certificate which I can’t use anyway as it needs to show the official watermark.

I replied and told them that no tracking number was in the email, and they eventually replied with said tracking number, which showed it had been delivered to an address 90 miles away in Swadlincote. I email telling them this and ask for my money back (£9.99), which was obviously ignored yet again.

We are due to travel abroad in 12 days so in the meantime I’ve transferred the microchip to a different database who have been amazing- I contacted them and told them I couldn’t communicate with the current company so they did it all for me, and in literally 10 minutes my pet was registered, transferred, and I had his certificate the next day.

Funnily enough I send Protected Pet an email today , the same one I sent 7 days ago that was ignored, telling them it’s unacceptable and I need my money back. I get home from work now and it’s finally arrived after having been sent only a couple of days ago. I peel off the address label and lo and behold it’s a recycled envelope that had been sent to their business address in Swadlincote, showing the tracking number they had sent me via email apparently being delivered to my address. I’ve no idea what on earth they’re doing but it’s an absolute shambles, I would not recommend this company under any circumstances. I should not have had to wait over 6 weeks for this!

What’s the bets I get a rude reply to this review but still no reply to my emails, or a refund?

I sent an email asking how to register my pet’s microchip. They never responded and I never paid anything. On the advice of my vet I decided to register with another company only to find that ProtectedPet has locked in my microchip. ProtectedPet refuses to release my microchip number without me paying them first. Totally unprofessional and a scam. DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS ORGANISATION. There are so many other larger, more professional companies registered in the UK, use one of them.

Freddie went missing tonight 05/03/2023 at 8:45 on our walk. Protectedpet called at 9:25 to the news that his been found and gave me his location details, in a fluster I mistyped the phone number and called back and within seconds my call was answered. Excellent and very friendly customer service. Deserve more then 5 stars.

Utterly disgusting!
Bullying tactics used by them.
A quick Companies House database check gave me the business owners names etc, and from that a quick search returned 1 horrific result!
Needless to say the bullying didn't work and further action is being taken by us.
