Prudent Pet Insurance Reviews 

I am extremely disappointed with Prudent Pet Insurance and the way this situation was handled.

I was in the process of completing an adoption application for a rescue dog, and Prudent Pet Insurance was listed on the rescue organization’s website as the insurance company recommended. One of the things that appealed to me was that the coverage appeared to become effective immediately after I completed the rescue application.

Unfortunately, the day after adopting the dog, I discovered that she had a very serious UTI. The veterinarian associated with the rescue had prescribed an antibiotic that was not the appropriate treatment. The very next day, I took her to my own veterinarian, who prescribed the correct antibiotic and instructed me to return in two weeks for a follow-up urine culture.

I did exactly what my veterinarian recommended. Between the two visits, I spent more than $376 and submitted both claims to Prudent Pet Insurance.

Today, I received the Explanation of Benefits denying both visits, stating that they were not covered because of waiting periods—five days for accidents and 14 days for illnesses/sicknesses.

The problem is that this waiting-period information was not clearly disclosed to me when I was completing the initial application. Had I known that my newly adopted dog would not actually have coverage for an illness during that period, I certainly would have made a different decision about this insurance.

I contacted Prudent Pet Insurance and spoke with Mary Ellen, hoping that someone would review the circumstances and perhaps recognize that this was a newly adopted rescue dog who was already sick and had been improperly treated before I even brought her home. Unfortunately, I was simply told that there was nothing they could do because the waiting period had not been satisfied.

I understand that insurance policies have terms and conditions. What I find extremely frustrating is the lack of transparency about the waiting periods at the time I was enrolling, particularly when the insurance was presented through the rescue adoption process.

As a new rescue-dog owner, I was trying to do the responsible thing by getting insurance coverage for my dog. Instead, when she needed veterinary care almost immediately, I discovered that the coverage I believed I was purchasing did not cover the very situation I was facing.

More than the $376, this is about transparency and customer service. If there are significant waiting periods that affect whether a newly adopted pet is actually covered, those restrictions should be made unmistakably clear before someone enrolls—not after they have paid for the policy and submitted a claim.

Needless to say, this experience has left me extremely disappointed with Prudent Pet Insurance. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this company to read the policy and waiting-period provisions very carefully and make sure they understand exactly when coverage actually begins before purchasing.

I will be looking for another insurance company because now I feel like I cannot trust them with anything.

Prudent Pet is a great insurance company! I had a really good experience with one of their customer service representative, Cathy G. She was kind and very understanding. Overall, their customer Service is top tier. They take the time to make sure you're able to get everything your policy offers. I also really like that they have 24/7 vet assistance via chat. That has been extremely helpful.

The whole process was easy, and the prices is very affordable

A mix up occurred which took a bit of follow-up to straighten out. Courteous and helpful assistance resulted.

Additionally made me aware of Wellness Insurance benefits for a new puppy. She is the “ GOLD STAR STANDARD” for pet insurance companies!

The registration was easy & fast, I just signed up for my fury baby. This far I like the policy.

The best part of this company is their quick response to any questions, concerns or issues. They are sincere, polite and professional in the manner they treat me. It feels like I am talking to a neighbor when they work with me. Not just one or two persons, but EVERYBODY who I've dealt with. Insurance sucks, but not having it is even worse. Price was a determining factor; however, the coverage was comparable to other companies. Your software system enabled me to quickly compare the various quotes and make an informed decision. Keep it up and I hope my experience with you compares to your sales system.

Easy to determine coverage and set up account

It was easy to navigate the system. The pirce was the cheapest of the the top ten pet insurance company.

My question was answered and a suggestion was offered. It was quick & effortless.

She was very kind and helpful. I would recommend adding to your dog list golden doodles and labberdoodles versus just going by mixed breed. I think you should be more specific just incase there would be a problem with future coverage
