When booking I requested a table not too far from the entrance due to being on crutches so all started well when we were given a table close to the door with space to put my crutches. Unfortunately it was downhill from then on. Trying to order 2 raspberry and rose sodas that are on the drinks menu proves difficult for our waitress who couldn’t find it on her tablet. This wouldn’t have been an issue if we had received our drinks, but the wrong ones came over. It was corrected, no drama. We had ordered our food at the same time as we had waited over 10 mins for anyone to come over for our drinks order. Well that was nothing compared to our 45 min wait for our food! And that was only after we prompted the waitress who went to check and miraculously it was just being plated. Cue the food that was cold and clearly plated a while ago. I was told more lamb was just being cooked so it wouldn’t be long and the pork for my mum takes just minutes to cook. All lies. My lamb has blatantly been reheated on the grill. Even to the point where the piece I had already cut into was still on the plate! Lamb has gone to over cooked, new potatoes had been in the microwave, and the sauce on the side was still lukewarm. They did offer to take the coat of the lamb off the bill, but our day has been blighted. I don’t get many days off from chemo. Stage 4 cancer keeps on going but I really just wanted a nice day out with my mum.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was below average. It was expensive for just average food. The Sunday roast wasn’t anything to remember, roast potatoes weren’t roasted enough, just lightly cooked large barrels of potato, also not enough gravy. All the things you want to be tasty on a roast just wasn’t. For the cost and what you get, I wouldn’t go back and wouldn’t recommend.

As a Kenilworth local, the Queen & Castle is my go-to spot for a relaxed meal or a drink with friends — it’s everything you’d want from a proper modern country pub. The building itself is beautiful, sitting right by the castle, and the atmosphere inside is always warm and welcoming without ever feeling crowded or pretentious.

The food is consistently excellent — hearty without being heavy, and clearly made with care. Their Sunday roasts are some of the best around, and the seasonal menu always has something new to tempt you (the desserts are dangerously good!). The staff are genuinely friendly, attentive without hovering, and you can tell they take pride in making sure everyone has a good time.

Whether it’s a quiet midweek lunch, a family get-together, or a few drinks by the fire, the Queen & Castle never disappoints. It’s one of those rare places that gets everything right — a real Kenilworth treasure.

We celebrated a 50th birthday party here and Charlotte was brilliant, very attentive and friendly

We celebrated my mums 89th birthday and had a great time. The staff were very attentive and the food was gorgeous. We were given a private area for 10 which made it feel special for our lovely mum. We will definitely be back.

The food was good but the service was disinterested and slow. There was no help for someone with mobility problems. We will not be returning.
