Safeway delivery is abysmal

My complaint is specifically about Safeway delivery in the Oakland, California area. I no longer drive, so have been reliant upon their delivery service. However, over the last two months I have had 3 grocery orders delivered to the wrong address! I requested refunds in each case because the store (in Alameda) never called me back to arrange redeliveries. So far only the first order has been refunded. For the second order (for $122.00) I called customer service over 5 times, and each time they promised to have the store “escalate” the refund (one even promised that their supervisor would intervene), all to no avail. I ended up filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and corporate Safeway is currently in the process of issuing the refund. I have one more refund due, but am not at all confident about it.

I am FINALLY through using Safeway delivery and shopping at Safeway entirely. I am now using Instacart to shop at Sprouts Market. It’s expensive, true, but at least the groceries show up!

Safeway needs to train their Door Dash drivers to contact their delivery customers before they make their deliveries. This means that the drivers need to speak basic English. But since the pandemic crisis is over, maybe Safeway does not care about the steep decline in quality of their delivery service.

Safeway lies about their deli hours, closes at 4:45 before most are off work

Went to the deli today at about 530. They had almost nothing in the fresh food section so I asked that they put something in the fryer for me. The lady that worked behind the counter said no we closed the fryers 45 minutes ago. That means they shut down the fryers at about 4:45. Most people aren't even off work yet. They had one piece of chicken and potatoes wedges in the case. The lady asked me what else can I get you. There was nothing else. What else was she gonna give me? Air. I went to the managers counter after heading to the pharmacy and asked for the manager who didn't want to help so I asked for the district manager to which they replied under no circumstances would they ever give the district managers number. Her name by the way, the district manager, is Sheryl(Cheryl) barfelow, so I asked for the corporate number. When I called corporate they told me there should never be an issue getting an email or phone number for a district manager and that is in direct violation of their company policy. Mind you the reason for my complaint is they have the hours for the deli which includes fried food as 7am until 9pm. This is listed on multiple places. Their website, Google, yelp, ECT. The food they had in the case which again was one chicken breast and potatoes wedges were burnt to a crisp. I asked for one simple thing and the staff at this location is less than helpful the manager in site was rude about me even asking for the district manager number. Mind you I never once raised my voice. I calmly asked for the district managers email or phone number and was told they wouldn't help me. Don't go her to get anything from the deli. You will be disappointed and treated poorly by this store. You may as well make the trip to King Soopers which is the superior store anyway or even Walmart since they won't have a problem keeping their deli open during the posted hours.

Purchased $98.61 worth of groceries, order# 89468759, May 13. May 14, someone else's order, C. Meredith, order# 89493874, was left on our porch. Contacted Safeway, promised redelivery... didn't happen. Called Safeway, May 15, promised refund, 3 - 5 days. Called May 18, promised refund, 3 - 5 days. Nothing.

The cake was so ugly they don’t know how to make it, I pay $47 for nothing, people’s don’t eat the cake, nasty cake . I’m unhappy was the last time my and my family appeared on the Safeway stores.
Cochinos no saben hacer pasteles cobraron caro por la basura de cake que compre , al partirlo las fresas se se le salieron el pan estaba desbaratado por dentro , estaba bien se feo le pusieron crema de chantillín en medio , mis invitados tiraron su cake nomas al verlo de feo y sin sabor . Fue la última vez que me aparezco por esa tienda 🙄

STAY FAR AWAY FROM SAFEWAY IN WESTMINSTER, MD

Safeway store #1616 ran by FRED REISING at 444 WMC Drive Westminster, MD 21158 is the ABSOLUTE WORST GROCERY STORE in all of Carroll County. First off, their prices are the most expensive out of all the stores. Which would be ok I suppose if this was some type of Luxury Grocery store lol. But it is far from that. I have never been in this store… not even ONE TIME When they didn’t have MOLDY Strawberries and Raspberries. How can this continue to be a thing at this location? I would never buy produce at this location. Matter of fact, if I were you I would shop at a different store all together. But the real reason I decided to write this review today is because of their SELF-CHECK OUT AISLES. Some time with in the year or maybe last year, Safeway decided to replace the really nice white recyclable bags they had at self check out, with REGULAR PAPER BAGS. They have since been trying to get everyone to pay $0.10 for PAPER BAGS since they made the switch. This is obviously a complete MONEY GRAB on Safeways part. Do you know they are the only grocery store in Carroll County to make their customers pay for PAPER BAGS except ALDI? Food Lion, Giant, Shoppers, Weis, and Target do not charge for paper bags.
But Safeway’s own accord the charge on your receipt says “Recyclable Bag Fee” which again, they got rid of the good recyclable bags a while bag. You can see by the receipt I have uploaded as of today.
SO NOW, Safeway has taken it one step further to really upset their customers (THEY HATE THEIR CUSTOMERS) -insert new slogan here.
They have decided it would be a BRILLIANT idea to PULL ALL of the paper bags from the self-check outs. In place of the bags they now have a printed sign that says “Ask for a bag if you need one” lol. The majority of customers use self check out for a few reasons. 1. It may be faster. 2. They don’t like or want to deal with people/staff (which is probably the #1 reason or 3. They can bag the groceries better because most cashiers are completely incompetent. Frankly it could be a mix of all 3.
But NOW… not only do you have to pay for the bags and the pleasure of spending your hard earned money at this particular grocery store… but now… as if you were a petulant child have to ask for a bag. “How many bags do you need?” Well how the heck do I know… lol
Seriously it’s nuts. The other day I heard several upset customers around me while I was trying to bag my own groceries. But today takes the cake folks. Today I bought 4 items so I knew I only needed 1 bag, and today they had maybe 500 bags in a grocery cart at the front by self Checkout. So I ring myself out, I select “ONE BAG” and pay for it. In which case the register very loudly states “ 10 CENTS”. Indicating I paid for the bag. I then went and grabbed 1 bag from the cart and which case I was then accosted by an employee. SIR, YOU CANT DO THAT! YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR THE BAG lol. Now I’m in disbelief so I tell this employee… You watched me ring up the items… you heard that I paid for 1 bag… you saw that I grabbed 1 bag… what seems to be the issue here? She then begins to argue with me and tell me that’s not how it works lol. So I tell her that first of all it’s absolutely ridiculous that you are changing people for paper bags, and I repeat my prior steps to her. She then tells me to… and I quote… “JUST SHUT UP… SHUT UP… YOU JUST SHUT UP!”
I guess I was making absolutely too much sense that those were the only words she could utter. But image being in your mid 40’s having to ask for a bag like a child, then have to pay for… and then being told to SHUT UP by an employee? What in the hecmy has happened to this country? She probably the victim too lol.
After being told to Shut up and did call her “AN OLD BAG” pun was definitely intended and she starts laughing. Then she snarkily replies “YOU HAVE A NICE DAY” in which i naturally replied “F-OFF”. And this was my experience at 9:30am on a Tuesday at Safeway in Westminster. I’m serious… you can’t make this stuff up. Absolutely mind-numbing experience. If you want to be treated as a child and heckled at self-checkout…. GO TO SAFEWAY!

What its like to work for safeway

Unfortunately 1 is the lowest score you can give. Equally as unfortunate(actually way more) i had the displeasure of working for this "company" as i use thatcterm very loosely. They were awful. Ive never seen any business treat their employees worse. From the second i started til the day i left. The store manager made it clear he was a racist on day one and didnt care for white people(me). And he hated women equally. So i was worked to the bone...criticized constantly never shown anysort of gratitude or appreciation...put me on call like im an f'n doctor(they pay minimum wage only because they have to). While i watched persons of his dame skin caller walk down easy street. Hed laugh and crack jokes with them constantly praising and openly complementing them. Worst of all is they pretend to care about employees, but DO NOT AT ALL. To many backstabbing two-faced instances to list. They're just plain despicable. Spend your money literally anywhere else.

Getting harder to justify shopping at Safeway

I live in Everett. WA and shop at the Safeway near my house, occasionally, because I am only willing to purchase a few items at a time. Why? Because Safeway appears to be on a self-destructive path. They routinely offer sales that cannot be relied on through their "Digital" coupons offers as well as other posted "specials". While I use to be lucky with their employees, mainly receiving decent help, I'm afraid that too is now headed in the wrong direction. Today, I tried to scan a digital coupon posted beneath an item and, as often happens, I could not. I flagged a worker and asked her if she could help. After trying several times, she couldn't, apologized and said I should just take a picture, which I have done many times before. However, this time, when I went to self-checkout, as usual, the employee there today treated me as though I was the dumbest person on the planet. When I said the digital scan posted did not work she said, "Yes it does because I just helped someone else". She then said, "I will now have to void all items and you will have to re-scan everything." I felt like saying, "You mean ALL 3 ITEMS?", but I didn't. Instead, when she told me to give her my phone so she could do what I couldn't, I said, "Thank you, maybe I can see what the issue is." The issue was, as she rudely proclaimed, "You have to scan the bar code on the item, NOT the posted Just for U code." Wow! News that has never been shared before. Is this new? Who knows, but no need for rudeness. Honestly, at this point, there is little reason to drop in for anything at Safeway. Here's what I think, at the end of the day, most people who are responsible for picking up the tab for others who either prefer to keep their income artificially low in order to qualify for handouts and keep from paying their fair share of taxes, and I've known a few, or earn too little on their own to support themselves, have a hard time rationalizing ongoing poor treatment and abuse by any company, let alone one that can't stop themselves from panhandling at the register via the ATM. ENOUGH ALREADY! I am perfectly capable of giving a donation to the charity of my choice and neither need or want a middleman. Now, 1.) Start treating your employees well so that their disgruntled attitudes aren't passed on to customers you may wish to keep. 2.) Fix your system so that the proper discounts are applied. After all, most other retailers are able to do this. If you cannot accomplish this, find out how competitors do it. 3.) Give us all a break and STOP asking for money for organizations you think everyone should be donating to because most people who don't qualify for any handouts are already picking up the slack through forced ongoing, in some cases illegal, increased taxes.

My husband and I shop at this store…

My husband and I shop at this store because it is close to our home. Not again! We live in Aurora, CO and shop at the Safeway store on Peoria and Mississippi. They have only one checker and we have to use that checker because of the amount of products we buy. This last visit there was a line of six shoppers waiting to check out. Some folks put their products back and left the store. The clerk at that station has obviously had no training in customer service. I told my husband, well, we got the "happy" clerk. I say that in sarcasm, not literally. Many times they are out of products in the deli section. Not a pleasand experience at all.

Donut Disappointment

Bought a dozen donuts today for $5 at the Cameron Park Safeway. I was disappointed in the quality of the donuts. They are all over cooked and dry. Some were sunken in in the middle. I will not be buying bakery donuts from them again. Once upon a time their donuts used to be soo good, soo soft and fluffy with a good rise and neatly decorated but not anymore.

Digital coupon deceit

Safeway Georgetown DC: I have to acknowledge that employee is like a little brother (15 years now) but lately he is developing some ego with long job security and may be weed... When the digital coupon does not work, I need explanation (I pay everything I get there) and he cursed me where too many of the store customers are bigger than life. Why this digital coupon has to be connected to the phone when the phone number alone does not credit the discount

What the hell is happening at Safeway?
Purchased a charging cable in a sealed box so viewing the size isn't an option. Got home & realised it doesn't fit my phone, i then tried to return it for a refund. Ha ha nice try!!!!! Safeway no longer offers refunds on any item.
Are they that hard up for money? What ever happened to customer service.??
You have gone downhill Safeway!!!!

My grandmother was cussed at by a…

My grandmother was cussed at by a Safeway by employee in front of a crowd of people. All my grandmother wanted was some help in finding the bacon. She came home so visibly distraught. Our family has been going to that location for years and just seeing my grandmother so shaken by this is disturbing. The manager overheard this exchange, and I can only hope that the employee was fired. What happened to good customer service?

Becareful with Digital coupon

Per Safeway policy, "Internet and digital coupons that have been electronically loaded to a Safeway Club Card are automatically redeemed at the time of purchase after the club card number has been entered".
The receipt was not shown the price redeemed for the item I clipped digital coupons on my Safeway app. I asked customer service why it happened. They check my app for the items to see if it was clipped. Then they gave me cash for the the difference. When I went home I looked at the receipt i found out another item that from digital coupon i had clipped has not been redemm for the price.
I bought only few items so I could find out or remembered what items were from digital coupon clipped. I could have not detect this scam if bought too many itmes including the items that not belong to digital coupons. So don't trust the digital coupon since the Safeway did not program to have items with digital coupon to have automatically redeemed the amount as its advertisement
