Very disappointing experience & quality
This is my first time writing a negative review, but I felt I had to after leaving the store feeling like I’d been fooled after speaking with their manager.
The shoes are advertised as “4 seasons,” “waterproof, flexible and durable.” I bought the Classic Dan Leather Loafers on 26th July 2025 (£240) with the expectation they would last a couple of years, especially as they were marketed as a premium, durable option. I thought it would be worth investing more than double the cost of other loafers, which usually last me 1–2 years.
Unfortunately, after just 2.5 months of light wear (3 days a week, only walking to the tube and office), the soles were already halfway gone. The store staff told me to go across the street and pay £110 to get them resoled — otherwise the damage would reach the upper part of the shoe and cost even more to repair.
When I raised this in the King’s Road Sebago store, I was referred to the manager. His response was essentially: “You bought leather soles, what did you expect?” I explained that for £240 “durable” shoes, lasting less than 3 months was unreasonable. He gave me an example of how he owns the same pair in black, only wears them on special occasions, and had to resole them after a year. I replied that a year sounded reasonable, but 2 months is far outside the norm. His reply: “We never said how long they would last” and “The soles are made to be resoled.” Definitely not what I was expecting to hear.
Sebago UK head office wasn’t helpful either. Their email response was: “Unfortunately the Kings Road store is operated independently and as such we are unable to process returns or offer advice on their behalf. If you feel that your shoes have a manufacturing defect, I recommend bringing them back to the store with your proof of purchase.” Draw your own conclusions from that. So, 2 months after purchase, I’m £240 down and now being asked to spend another £110 just so that initial £240 isn’t completely wasted — all while being treated like a fool.
After checking with a solicitor, this appears to be a breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which requires goods to be of “satisfactory quality” and “reasonably durable.” Sebago’s position is simply to deny any responsibility. Luckily, I purchased through Amex, whose customer service is excellent, and I’ve raised a Section 75 claim with them in the hope of getting my money back.
I honestly liked the look of the shoes, but the experience has left me feeling scammed. At this point I regret buying them and can’t recommend Sebago to anyone. Not my first pair of leather-soled shoes, but it will certainly be my last from this brand.

Sebago, what’s not to like!
I’ve bought several pairs of Sebago shoes and boots over the years, and I love them. On this occasion, I took advantage of a pair of boots in the sale that was emailed to me, which were a bargain not to be missed … great Sebago quality, great boots, and for a price that was just ridiculous, a serious bargain. Add to this a great delivery service, quick and fully traceable, I just couldn’t be happier!
I’ve been a long time Sebago customer, and I will continue to be so for a long time to come!
