Official OTA update bricked my €1,100 projector! Support blames "dust", denies legal warranty, and only offers a coupon.

To prove it's a software brick, I tested the projector in a cold cellar (18°C) with an external fan. It still throws the overheating error within exactly 2 seconds from a completely cold start. It is physically impossible for components to reach critical burning temperatures in 2 seconds at 18°C. The update completely broke the sensor layer.

The internal support response is a joke. Agent Felicia tried to claim that statutory warranty in Germany is "voluntary" (which is completely illegal). Support Manager Shane then blocked any further help, claiming "dust accumulation" caused the 2-second cold start loop, and stated "our decision is final". They only offered a coupon to buy a new one.

I did not back down. A formal legal notice regarding their legal update obligations (§ 327f BGB) was officially delivered via registered mail to the Anker Innovations GmbH headquarters in Düsseldorf on June 30th, giving them until July 10th to issue a replacement or a full refund.

--- UPDATE: July 13, 2026 ---
Anker let my official legal deadline pass without offering a repair or replacement. Consequently, I officially declared my withdrawal from the purchase contract (Rücktritt vom Kaufvertrag) demanding a full refund.

Their support (Agent Molly) rejected this today, doubling down on the physically impossible "dust accumulation / heat dissipation" excuse for a 2-second cold-start crash, ignoring the proven software failure.

I have now handed over my complete documentation—including uncut video evidence and reports from other affected Reddit users showing this is a serial defect—to the German Consumer Protection Agency (Verbraucherzentrale NRW) and major tech media outlets (c't / Heise "Vorsicht Kunde!"). Management has been given a final deadline of July 15th to issue the refund.

Based on my experience, think twice before buying from this brand. If an official OTA update bricks your premium hardware, their support might just abandon you, blame dust, and force you to fight them via the press and consumer protection just to get your legal rights.

After escalating the case directly to Anker's Legal Department and proving the statutory update liability (§ 327f BGB in Germany), Anker Management stepped in. They officially revised the support's decision, apologized for their team's legal misjudgment, and issued a full refund of the purchase price. They also forwarded my forensic analysis to their Core Engineering Team to investigate the firmware bug. If your device was bricked by this update, do not accept the 15% coupon – claim your legal rights!

I hate it

I hate it, I have been using it for months, and today I can’t watch anything because it’s asking for my email and password… and then when I tried to reset my password says my email is not registered. So I registered again and the emails never comes. So there two days that I can’t watch movies. So annoying!!!!!!
And the quality is ok…. So I do not recommend

Yay for Nebula

Yay for Nebula! I ordered my Mars 3 projector almost 6 months ago. I originally wanted a large tv, but decided we had enough tv’s. After nearly 6 months of use, the projector is everything that was promised and more. It was shipped on time, it arrived well packaged, and it hasn’t given me a problem since I’ve had it. Love it!

Disappointing customer service experience and insufficient product

Since I was not happy at all with the Anker Nebula Capsule 3 Laser at all as it only had about half of the promised and advertised runtime via battery, I had been offered a replacement. However, since the replacement had the exact same issues, I figured the item was simply not fir for purpose and I asked to be refunded. But guess what - customer service suddenly changed approach and decided that i now fall into warranty period (procedures took long time since they even failed to deliver one replacement to the correct address...), and now I was expected to accept only a partial refund. Any discussions with them failed, they denied me a full refund, and at the end I had to claim my money back via bank chargeback... Shocking experience, and the product was was as advertised.

I supported Seenebula early through…

I supported Seenebula early through what was presented as a Kickstarter-style pledge for a discount. I paid $100 with the understanding that this secured the discounted pricing. What was not made clear was that there were additional steps required beyond the pledge itself.
Seenebula acknowledged they received my deposit and even recognized that there was confusion in how the offer was communicated. However, they refused to honor the discount and initially would not process a refund either. I had to proactively reach out multiple times just to get my money back.
For a company that emphasizes community and early supporters, this was disappointing. As an early contributor acting in good faith, I expected clearer communication and more flexibility when the mistake was acknowledged. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the experience.
Transparency around promotions and customer-friendly resolution matter — and this fell short.

Bester Support

Das Nebula Support Team hat unglaublich gute Arbeit geleistet. So einen engagierten Support habe ich bisher noch nie erlebt. Zum ersten Mal hatte ich wirklich das Gefühl, dass sich ein Team intensiv mit meinem Problem beschäftigt und es unbedingt lösen möchte.

Besonders positiv fand ich, dass selbst dann, als ich einmal auf eine E-Mail nicht geantwortet habe, das Anliegen nicht einfach als erledigt abgestempelt wurde – stattdessen kam freundlich eine Erinnerung. Das zeigt echtes Interesse am Kunden und ein hohes Maß an Professionalität.

Ein so produktives, engagiertes und lösungsorientiertes Support-Team habe ich bislang noch nie erlebt. Vielen Dank für diesen außergewöhnlichen Service!

Unprofessional and unacceptable


The service I have received from Nebula has been infuriatingly appalling.

With my initial problem I spent over 2 weeks calling on a daily basis.

Nebula Mars II Pro, won’t charge and has been used as an outdoor camera less than 5 times. I can still use it if plugged in but that is not what I spent so much money on a projector for.

Then when I spoke to someone called Sally who looked over my notes, she agreed that i had received a really bad experience and said she would look at replacing the Nebula or replacing the part.

I then receive a standard email saying it’s out of warranty and there is nothing they are prepared to do. Which environmentally is an appalling response!

I have since escalated this,, TNG400253008, following the companies escalation process and spent a further 2 weeks chasing a response on which I am told someone will get back to me within 24 hours. 2 weeks daily calls, being assured every time that the customer representative will personally ensure it gets escalated and still no response.

My background is regulation and from where I am sitting either your systems and controls need a serious overhaul or you actually don’t care about your customers.

To be promised a fix and then receive this email is unprofessional and wholly unacceptable !

The public portable theater
