I have gradually built up enough shelving to make a floor to ceiling library! It looks great.

These shelves are very easy to put together, and also easy to rearrange. They look great when they are painted - and they are an excellent painting surface.

This company also uses good couriers and you can book a delivery date at the same time as placing the order.

Once assembled and fixed to the wall, these bookcases feel robust and are good quality, the shelves are solid enough that we have no concerns about them bowing under the weight of our books. We are very pleased with the final result and look forward to enjoying them for years to come.

However, the journey to the finished product did present some challenges.

The Building Process

The design is simple, but building the larger, multi-bay units that we chose, was more difficult than anticipated. The components are heavy, which is a testament to their quality, but it does make them cumbersome to manoeuvre. Attaching the large solid wood backboards, which on multi bay units have to be completed once the units are upright, required considerable effort, even with two people. None of the units are bolted together, they all rely on gravity and wall fixings to achieve stability, hence the building process being so difficult.

The instructional CGI videos on the website are a useful starting point, but they do make the process appear simpler than it is in a real-world setting. We also found some installation details were missing. For example, we were unsure whether to use shelf brackets for the very top and bottom shelves. We decided to use them on one unit and found it made for a more secure structure, although the top shelf no longer sits perfectly flush with the uprights. This is a point of feedback for Shelfstore; clearer guidance on this would be beneficial.

Ordering and Customer Service

When placing our order, we used the design wizard on the website. It wasn't clear that the top and bottom panels of the bookcase are included in the total number of shelves. This is particularly important for floor-to-ceiling units with backboards, as these top and bottom shelves become fixed parts of the main frame. Neither of these shelves can be moved, which limits configuration and the top shelf, when close to the ceiling, is not usable at all. We ended up needing to place a second order for more shelves, which incurred an additional delivery charge, of £20.70, on top of the total price for both orders coming to £2246.31, which is a considerable outlay.

We did have a couple of issues with delivery and damage. One package was missing from the initial delivery, but after contacting customer service, Shelfstore rectified this and the missing package arrived early the next day. Despite the excellent packaging, a few pieces had some minor damage. As we were in the middle of building all of the units, we made the practical decision to continue the build rather than leave it unfinished and the house in chaos whilst waiting for replacements. When we contacted customer service later, they advised that they could have rectified the issue sooner had we let them know when we discovered it.

We updated them of all of the issues we encountered, and thought it odd when they stated that our feedback was hurtful. They did offer us a £100 partial refund and free delivery on the second order (for more shelves). However, they have only actually issued the £100, and not refunded the delivery charge, or replied to our follow up email, which is disappointing.

Overall Impression

While we faced some hurdles along the way, we are ultimately very pleased with our Shelfstore bookcases. They are high-quality, and sturdy and relatively good value for money, although they did test our patience and strength to build and attach to the wall.

Just bought one of this company's CD storage units. It came extremely well packaged (triple wrapped!). Was very easy to assemble and looks great. Excellent value for money and I would be happy to buy from them again.

Shelfstore provide a solid product that is simple enough for DIY but offers sufficient flexibility for unique needs and designs. I really like the way the shelving is engineered for strength. The packing for shipping is very effective. All of my products have arrived intact without any damage. It does take a bit of work to unpack. The delivery time slot of 8 am to 6 pm is very wide, but my shipments usually arrived first thing in the morning, and so I was not held hostage a whole day waiting for the delivery.

Incredibly fast delivery, well packed, so simple to build and amazing quality. I should have bought from Shelfstore years ago. 10/10 thank you.

We have been using this shelfstore system and I am delighted with it. Without doubt it is the best system I have come across for home or office shelving that allows a fully changeable series of options that can be updated any time. I have updated our system several times and still use the items from our original order in excess of 10 years old with the newest pieces less than a week old without a single problem. They are hard wearing, massively strong and excellent quality and cleverly designed and manufactured, in short they do what it says on the tin

Further to this, the customer service and support is outstanding, they are helpful, friendly, polite and thorough, and I am very happy to provide them with the highest level of feedback

On a humorous note, I would like to add that their packaging is 2nd to none, and that the ninjas who do their packaging should be consulted for any international defence projects, as they are all virtually impenetrable and leave no stone unturned in regard to the protection of the merchandise being dispatched.

In the beginning I didn't believe that this system could exist. It seemed like a fantasy. So I read everything and tried my seemingly awkward shelving requirements. I experimented until I had exactly what I wanted. Wow it was so easy and every other supplier said it was impossible without spending a fortune. Shelfstore then delivered on time, undamaged and I built it immediately.
So pleased, delighted with the results.

My shelves were delivered less than 48 hours after ordering. The quality of the timber and finishing is excellent. The packages came beautifully packed to prevent transit damage.

Shelfstore's products are so easy to put assemble that it almost took us longer to unwrap them (the packaging is also of excellent quality). The design is really, really clever and the quality of the wood is lovely. I rang them because there was something I didn't understand. The guy I spoke to was super helpful and even stayed late to make sure I had what I needed. This is the second time that I have used them and the shelves I bought over a decade ago still look great. Like many other of the others reviewing this company, I rarely write reviews but Shelfstore really deserves to be recommended.

Great product, and great service. After placing an order, due to some technical issue about the web session having expired and *after having paid*, the order seemed missing. This was on a late Friday night. I wrote an email expecting long Monday calls. Within 20minutes on that Friday night, I got a human response asking me what the order was about. Within another 10-20minutes, I received another email telling me to check my account and that an invoice "had now been created" and that this will be processed normally on Monday.

The day after Monday, as per my delivery slot, the product was delivered. The shelves themselves are as described and shown on the web site, and our little now has a nice bookcase in her room.

I rarely write reviews, but I felt that I should write one in this case, since the service was exceptional.

I placed my order at noon and by 1pm the next day the shelves were delivered. I was kept fully informed every step of the way of the delivery details, right down to the name of the driver. The shelves were simple to assemble and look good. Just the job.

I ordered a shelving unit. I chose the company because of all the good reviews. Ordering was very easy. The delivery company they use has failed to deliver on two occasions. There’s only an online customer service, you can’t speak to anyone and so far they’ve been very unhelpful. I’ve asked for my money back but I haven’t had any response from them. I now have no refund and no shelving unit. Really disappointing service.

I rarely write reviews, but I have been really impressed with Shelfstore's service and the flexibility and quality of their product(s).

I decided to go for them because of the option to expand as my book collection does and I wasn't disappointed.

The only thing I would say is make sure you calculate the number of shelves you need carefully before ordering. I have ended up creating follow up orders for additional shelves and the shipping costs do add up.

The product I received from Shelfstore, the day after I ordered it, is high quality, easy to assemble, very sturdy and looks good now it's been put together. When compared to how much it would cost to make something of a similar quality it's reasonably priced.

The web site system that helps one design what's required is intuitive and easy to use.

I needed to call them once because I couldn't find something on their web site and the person I spoke to was polite and helpful.

What's not to like? I'll definitely be back if I need any more shelving.
