I had a very positive impression of this business initially. I really enjoyed their blog and had previously taken the time to email them to say so. I highly recommend the blog if you haven't discovered it already. They were very kind and appreciative in their response, and I was genuinely happy to support the business by placing several orders.

Most of the items in my orders were delightful and I was very pleased. There was a lot of care taken to wrap the items carefully, making each item well protected in transport and special to unwrap. Unfortunately, one piece looked noticeably different from the photographs on the website, so I politely contacted the shop to explain my concern and included one of their own website images to illustrate the contrast I was referring to. This wasn't a case of looking for faults; I was simply sharing an honest observation about one item in one of several orders.

I was very surprised by the response I received from the owner, Alice. She commented on the fact that my photograph had been taken in a room with the electric lights on, which seemed an odd point to focus on given that it was just showing how the product looked in an ordinary home environment, the kind products will be used in. She also dismissed the other photograph I had used as being a particularly contrasting example, although it was one of her own images from the website and there were several others I could have used to make the same point. She said that ultimately, because other customers had not raised the same point, she would not accept my feedback.

I found Alice's tone throughout unnecessarily defensive and, honestly, very saddening to receive. I don't expect a business to agree with every customer's view, but I do think this was a perfectly valid and politely expressed observation. The fact that nobody else had mentioned it doesn't make my experience any less genuine, and I found it disappointing that the response seemed to focus solely on adamantly dismissing the point rather than considering why I had raised it and any learning that could be gained for her business.

It was sad to feel that they were so receptive to my praise, yet so unwilling to hear my perspective when it differed from theirs.

I have tried to write this review fairly because I genuinely wish the business well. I hope they will be able to see that a customer's differing perspective isn't an attack — sometimes it's simply another person's experience which should be equally valued. Sadly, they have lost a customer.

Knowledge of stock, pointing out what matched my requirements together with a couple of unusual possibilities made the whole visit interesting and fun.
