...first and foremost : their CEO. Steven Slate is polarising, to say the least. And from the very first time you end up on their page, it's made clear that this isn't about music : it's about Slate being the best.
But.
- The desktop app is a bit instable at times
- The whole subscription bundle is somewhat messy : loading times, bugs, artefacts, etc
- M1 support came way too late for a subscription model
- The 6 month engagement you get when you wanna stop your subscription
- The way Slate interacts on its social medias
So many other things.
When, all things considered, its products are really great. They sound absolutely amazing.
But in the end, subscribing without any counterpart - even tho the bundle is absolutely stacked with plenty options - and the way it bugged out on me many times on many critical jobs (iLok model for subscription? Really?) was the end of it for me...and some other producers I know.
Will still keep an eye out for their products. But couldn't justify keeping a subscription model that instable on my systems.

The plugins are fine, worse than UAD IMHO, Too much plugins, a lot useless, and you will use only a few and the pack become really expensive for a home studio. I prefer to buy those i like not all of them yearly for nothing. I have to mention the crashes, issues, and bad ilok design. Slate must think about a cheap tiny pack for home customers

Best in class support team, plus a constantly expanding lineup of software with no change in subscription price. This approach is what today's creative consumers demand and Slate Digital delivers in spades.

The first Slate users who could only BUY their plugins, are forced to use the iLok dongle. As a perpetual license owner you can NOT store your licenses in the iLok cloud or on your computer. You have to use the USB-A dongle. (@Steven: did you notice there is NO USB-A slot on a PowerBook Pro?)

So after a relationship of over ten years, it sadly ends here. Not good at all.

What a great bundle! I have used all of these plugins and I love them. Plus the available training is unbelievable. Highly recommended.

The first plugin i’ve bought from slate was the virtual tape, way before the all bundle and bought a few more, that still in use in every production i do.
The slate bundle is the most affordable bundle out there and the most useful i can think of. it sounds great, it looks great and all the tutorials are simply the best. to top all that, the sound banks and presets are awesome.
recently i’ve started working with the mo-tt on my mastering session.
I love all the products and it became my signature sound.

Slate Digital products are the best. The subscription package is affordable and the plugins, sample packs and other resources are top notch. Highly recommended!

I started to use Slate's Trigger 2 a few years ago when I was at university and I really loved the quality and user experience of the product. Years later, when I became more experienced and with a more trained ear, I invested a little money in the all access pass for one year. Since then, many plugin became my go to and a staple in my workflow. I use the Virtual Mix Mix Rack on basically any source due to its great Analog flavour and versatility. The price tag is great! highly recommended

The Slate Digital experience is mind-blowing.
Real-world modelled hardware in software plugins, for less than 2 Starbucks and a muffin per month.
My million dollar studio has become a reality because of Slate and thier monthly pricing policy.
Combined with Cakewalk by Bandlab (a free top tier DAW - long story) and a Slate monthly sub for $14.99 - I can complete with any audio engineer out there.
I love the Slate workflow too, it's simple and easy to adopt and your ears will thank you for the purchase, the end product is always amazing.
Long live Steven and Fabrice and everyone at Slate Digital, thank-you for making this service to the music industry, so accessible to so many.

The plugins are great but in order to access the virtual mix rack for my vms ml-1, I had to buy an iLok usb which plays a huge role in my rating considering almost all other competitors at the most only require an iLok account. It's time for Slate to get out of the dark ages

Ich bin mit Slate seit einigen Jahren beschäftigt. Ich finde die Software sehr gut und arbeite in allen Musikproduktionen damit. Ich finde die Qualität sehr professionell und kann sich locker mit der Konkurrenz messen, für die man ein Vielfaches an Hardware und Geld braucht. Natürlich sind diese Abos mittlerweile etwas blöde, andererseits bekommt man immer wieder mal automatisch neue plugins dazu. Manche brauchbar manche nicht. Trotzdem ist der Preis von etwa 13 Euro monatlich ok. Habe vorher auch mit vielen anderen Anbietern gearbeitet, bin aber tatsächlich bei Slate hängen geblieben.
