The Detective Society Reviews 

I'm so glad we found The Detective Society (recommended to us by our local escape room owner and puzzle aficionado). We bought "The Cursed Exhibition" as we wanted a serious challenge with puzzles that takes real detective work and deep thinking. We love the quality of each component, both the printed material and online resources. My personal favourite being the interactive element with emails/texts and phone calls to the characters in the game, it brings a really exciting, unique and immersive element to the game play and there's a real frisson of excitement after you've sent a message waiting for your character to reply!

Each chapter is so well thought out and requires different skills to solve (e.g not the same type of puzzles ad nauseum, weak online elements, pointless props- or outcomes that are completely illogical).

This is an extremely satisfying game and worth the money (I was initially concerned at the price but now having experienced it, it's DEFINITELY worth the money and great value for the hours of play time).

We feel the creators must be true fans of this genre and have lovingly created something unique, complex and thoroughly entertaining.

We are now officially Detective Society addicts and want to solve all their puzzles! (We've already bought our next one and intend to work our way through them all).

I will mention, as I've seen it on other recent reviews, that there was a 2 week wait on posting and I could have done with an initial update email (they had changed dispatchers and are a small business, not a big team) as it was our first time buying but, I just want to reassure anyone currently waiting for their game, this is a legitimate company and it's thoroughly worth waiting for. Once you get the game and play it, don't be concerned.

Only real detectives need apply to complete this game.

I decided to give The Detective Society a try as they are based here in the UK, and the import costs for these kinds of games from the U.S are quite steep.
I am on Epsiode 2 of Season One, so still a relatively new experience, but the production values are very high, both in the documents provided and the online content. The email and phone bot interactions add another welcome layer to proceedings and the story is engaging.
The way that the Detective Society differs from other episodic games of its ilk is in the tone. The websites and newspaper clippings are peppered with sarcastic comments, social commentary, and observational humour (some of which is very funny) and are therefore overtly fake and gamified.
Whether you like this or not depends on what you are looking for in your mystery experience. It can be very entertaining and raise a smile, but at the same time can break the immersive quality of the game. It reminds you that you are not deep into a real case, and that this world is slightly askew.
I play lots of these games and they all have a slightly different approach, so I don't mind TDS forging its own path, but I personally prefer detective games that take themselves a little more seriously, hence why I dropped a star.
The quality of the product is excellent, but the 'wink wink' humour is an unnecessary distraction.

I was very excited for this game and bought it as a present. 9 days after the purchase I tried to contact the customer service and 2 days later I was informed by the customer service that my package was shipped. They also said that I should get a tracking number and that the service worker herself will try to get it for me. Since now 5 days after her email I have still no tracking number and I doubt if I ever will get my package. My purchase is now 2 weeks ago. I'm really sad and hope that the game will arrive someday. Good point for the detective society, the customer service was friendly but all in all till now a sad experience. Especially for the high price of the game.

It was glorious! First game purchased from the Detective Society and I could not be more pleased. We've played a variety of formats from different companies before (Exit the Game, Unlock! Mystery Agency, Mysterious Package Company - to name a few) and this is the game we are still talking about days later. Immersive, excellent story telling, just the right pitch of common sense vs puzzle solving, and the audio and interactions were incredible. Add in the fantastic illustrations and the characters/vocals (Goldilocks - I can't even 😂) and you have a winning formula. Two adults eagerly ripping open each envelope and rolling around laughing then setting to some solving made for an enjoyable weekend. I only wish we could play it again - I have ordered another mystery and cannot wait to see what's in store. Absolutely top drawer guys - we salute you!

Excellent! We were given episode one as a Christmas present and did it with the older children over Christmas. We are hooked and bought the rest of the series! Great alternative to a board game. Highly recommend

Absolutely love playing these games with my 13 year old son. Even managed to get my husband to join in with one. So nice to do something practical rather than online. Love how quick the responses are when you email or message. Great fun!

These might be the best detective games on the market. They're expensive, sure -- but man, are they worth it!

Quick delivery and well packaged! Very interesting start to a series and will be collecting the rest of the series once I get to the bottom of this one.

We have enjoyed the first 3 episodes and have ordered the last of this series. These are well thought out, absorbing and amusing.

The games are fine — I enjoy playing them with my daughter. I especially appreciate that you've added the online switchboard option for people who aren't in the UK & would have to pay for international calls.

My only complaint really is shipping. You should consider a North American distributor to avoid such high shipping prices, which are compounded by a ridiculously high customs fee when the packages come over the border. Shipping and customs added nearly 30% to the cost of the two seasons we bought.

Played this with the family and enjoyed it so much

Was a bit basic considering the high cost, they could have made it more challenging.
The package took a week to be dispatched then 4 working days to arrive.
It ships in its own box, so was not up to the UK postal abuse and arrived a bit bashed.

Very detailed and very innovative. They've created websites you use in solving the puzzles, phone numbers and email addresses you can send messages to. It's a really great puzzle game and highly recommend it

Very well organized and very quick delivery although i am in a country outside UK . For sure one of the most reliable companies i have come across in the game field

I enjoyed playing the first episode and it did take approximately take 2 hours to complete.
But I have a big question over the sustanability. Clearly, once solved you're not going to replay this episode but you are encouraged to spend another £30.00 on the next episode. But what do we do with the contents? Do we place it all in the recycle bin or send it back to you?

Got the first episode through sponsoring but after being completly addicted to this game we have now purchased the last 2 episodes. So much fun and great ways to play using the Internet and watsapp. Really fun imersive game. Looking forward to trying more games from the detective society and can't wait to see what new ones are to come in the future.
