Over two years of payments and still no straight answers!

Where do I even start?!

We used The Directory Guys from August 2024 until October 2026, paying £109 + VAT a month for Google Business Profile optimisation an additional priority plus service £19.99 + VAT, plus extra for a website. We also paid over £100 in October 2025 to increase our coverage from 5 to 10 mile plus increase to £149 + VAT per month (and again extra for a website).

After spending thousands (literally!), I genuinely wish we'd looked into doing it ourselves sooner and what they were actually doing!

From what we could actually see, their work seemed to consist mainly of checking our Google Business Profile, sending performance reports and publishing around ONE Google post a month, often using content we'd already created!

The frustrating part? Google Business Profile is FREE to manage!

I'm not saying professional SEO isn't valuable, but surely when you're paying every month, you're entitled to know what work is actually being done?

We've repeatedly asked for evidence of the work undertaken on OUR account. Not trade secrets, just an explanation of what we've paid for. Instead, we keep getting told their methods are "proprietary".

Then there's the website!

We were heavily encouraged to purchase one, with sales emails linking it to improving our Google rankings. Yet during our complaint, they confirmed NO direct SEO was carried out on the website. Apparently, our monthly subscription covered hosting, SSL and requested text/image changes, with some additional changes costing extra.

Had we understood that properly, we'd have made a different decision!

And the sales tactics? In our experience, incredibly persistent when it came to selling additional services. Getting answers afterwards was another matter entirely!

We also paid extra to extend our geographical coverage from 5 to 10 miles. Yet when we queried this, a member of staff was still referring to 5 miles.

We asked for evidence the upgrade had actually been implemented in October 2025. Their evidence? Google search screenshots taken in OCTOBER 2026, after we'd launched our own replacement website and taken over our marketing!

How does that demonstrate what was done a year earlier?!

Customer service was equally disappointing. When we explained we'd manage our own Google Business Profile, Nakita questioned how we thought we could do it ourselves.

Sorry, WHAT?! Google literally provides the tools to manage your own profile for FREE!

We raised a formal complaint, but the process felt practically nonexistent. Questions went unanswered, we couldn't get satisfactory evidence of the disputed services, and despite requesting management involvement, we couldn't establish who had actually reviewed our concerns.

Eventually, we were told the complaint was closed and we'd have to "agree to disagree".

After over two years of payments, that's apparently the best resolution they could offer!

We've requested a partial refund, which they've refused.

I'm not claiming they did absolutely nothing. I'm saying they haven't satisfactorily explained or substantiated the services we're disputing.

We've now built our own website and taken control of our Google Business Profile and marketing.

My advice to other small businesses? Research what Google lets you do for free, question exactly what you're paying for and get EVERYTHING in writing.

Would I recommend The Directory Guys? Absolutely not!

And the irony doesn't stop there!

The Directory Guys actually posted on social media about how a single unanswered negative review can sit at the top of a business profile for months.

Yet when I tried to leave negative feedback through THEIR OWN review system, I was directed to a private feedback form instead.

Their website currently displays 705 reviews, every single one either four or five stars. Not one review below four stars!

I also couldn't find an option to leave a Google review, and their social media pages don't appear to allow public reviews either.

I'm not suggesting this proves they're deliberately hiding negative feedback, but as a customer who's just spent weeks trying to get a satisfactory response to a formal complaint, I find the whole thing incredibly ironic!

For a company selling reputation management services, I would have expected a much more transparent approach to customer criticism.

I was with company to promote and Improve my company on Google for 3 months but it didn't improve in any way whatsoever so don't waste your money with this company. In fact it got worse before I signed up with them I was getting 6 to 8 jobs a month but after signed up no a single job was coming through and it was almost impossible to find my company on Google. It was disappear completely. Honestly if I could given them 0 star I would.when I realised it wasn't improving so I called them up and requested cancellation but they stated that its not possible because apparently I signed up for 3 months contract which I wasn't told when they called me and stated I could cancel anytime I like. Avoid them please. I spent around £600 but got nothing on return. Very unprofessional and disappointing services if received from them.i wouldn't recommend them at all.

I had a great experience with this company. Jess was very friendly, professional and helpful throughout. She provided excellent customer service and made everything easy and straightforward. Highly recommend!
