The best accommodation I've stayed at.

Really good place to live! I wish they had the chance to have contracts for graduated students who want to stay in Sheffield after university. I love how many activities this place hosts. Shout out to Darcey and the rest of the team!

True Sheffield

I stayed at True Sheffield. It's in a comfortable location if you are heading to University of Sheffield (15 min walk). It's in walking distance from the city centre as well. Even has a Co-op nearby for quick groceries. The staff is very friendly and approachable. The rooms are great, with beautiful views and all the necessities. It also has a cool common space and a gym!

I’ve had a great time at true…

I’ve had a great time at true especially if your thinking about coming to shockout as a first year many people stay here and it’s easy to make friends!
Staff (Ricardo and Leslie) have been great and really friendly with many activities to attend with friends or by yourself
Recommend if your stuck where to live at uni
It’s a great accessible area close to the dirty centre and Salford town centre

Absolutely disappointed and frustrated…

Absolutely disappointed and frustrated with True Student Salford.

Under the previous manager, visitors were able to put their car registration in at reception and receive 12 hours of free parking. This was a really useful service, especially for people like me who visit regularly. I visit my wife almost every day for around 5 to 8 hours, so having access to free parking made a massive difference.

Now, since the new manager has taken over, that service has suddenly been removed. When I tried to give my registration at reception, I was told, “We don’t do that anymore” because it apparently gets “too packed.” That excuse made no sense at all because there were literally only two other cars parked there at the time.

Instead of finding a fair solution, they have just taken the free parking away from everyone. They could have easily introduced a better system, such as limiting the number of visitor spaces, setting clearer rules, allowing bookings, or giving priority to residents’ regular visitors. But instead, they chose the laziest option and removed the service completely.

When I questioned it, I was basically ignored and told to park on the main road, where the spaces are always full, or use paid parking down the road. That is completely unreasonable and unaffordable for someone visiting daily for several hours.

To make things worse, the receptionist I dealt with had a terrible attitude and was extremely rude. There was no attempt to help, no understanding, and no proper explanation.

I recommended this place to my wife, and now I regret it. This change has made visiting stressful, expensive, and inconvenient for no good reason. Very poor management, poor communication, and poor treatment of visitors.

We definitely won’t be coming back next year.

True student event

I went to the Escape the dark castle event tonight at true student Sheffield, and all I have to say is that the staff are incredible (especially Matt☺️☺️) and the atmosphere is really lovely too. Thank you for this experience. 10/10.

This venue is absolutely perf

This venue is absolutely perf! AF hosted their Christmas dinner here this evening and it didn’t disappoint, plenty of space for a large bunch of us and well organised by both the staff here at true student and the committee specifically molly and Blythe 🫶

VERY UNSAFE and very unreliable staff


Although this accommodation appears and sounds high quality, it is in fact very unsafe and if you have an any issues the staff are completely unreliable. The biggest worry is the lack of saftey when you are in the accommodation. I lived with 5 other people and we sadly had an incident during the night where a random person entered my flatmates room whilst she was sleeping, as the main door to our apartment was broken, even after we had brought this issue up to staff and put it under maintenance on the true student app. Thankfully this was another university student who drunkenly assumed it was his room, but for him to so easily access our flat raises a huge concern. Furthermore, the outside door to enter our specific block of flats (containing hundreds of people) broke later on in the year, and although items breaking is beyond the staff's control, it is within their control and duty of care to treat this as an emergency and seek maintenance urgently, unfortunately the door has remained like this for weeks meaning absolutely anyone is able to enter as they please. Not to mention, not only would they would have free reign around our block, but also be able to walk through to the next block over as a key card only access door within the building is completely off the hinges and has been for months, yet again allowing whoever pleases to walk across to other blocks. After I brought this up a staff member (John) I was told to “shhh” (action included) and that it was a secret that I was not supposed to tell anyone else if they hadn't already realised (because it is a huge health and safety issue). After this, I then went to a manager who informed me that they would be getting someone to come and look at the broken entrance door 'in 2 weeks' which, not only is displaying a lack of urgency and responsibility as you would never leave a house front door unlocked for anyone to open for months on end, but I also found it difficult to believe based off when I had first moved in, and there was a huge burn on the counter top in the kitchen that us all and our parents were told would be fixed within 2 weeks. However, after a year of living there, 3 complaints to staff and a report onto the maintenance app we have had no updates other than a staff member saying months ago they would give it a 'temporary fix immediately' as it was still there after several months and unsurprisingly, even the 'temporary fix' hasn't happened and it is coming up to the end of our tenancy. Luckily for me, I lived somewhat close to home and drove, therefore whenever I didn’t have university/work I would sleep at home due to me feeling uneasy sleeping. I would not recommend this accommodation to anyone other than what it looks like at surface level, especially those who have moved far from home. For somewhere that you are paying thousands of pounds a term for, they are hugely reluctant on using these funds to actually fix these safety issues and protect the thousands of people living there.

TRUE Student Accommodation - Swansea

I can only comment on the TRUE accommodation in Swansea:

Postives:
Nice accommodation because new. Hotel-quality rooms with a really good gym. Friendly and helpful staff. Many events on-going to help students integrate. Close to the city centre and other features such as the marina area. There is a night bus that goes direct from Singleton back to True. Our son is in a corridor of just 5 who share the kitchen. This is a nice set up that encourages new friends etc.

Negatives:
Miles from the Singleton Campus. There is a bus service but it's not reliable (didn't turn up on the first day of term in Sep). When the bus does arrive it's usually full with students from the Bay Campus. So most students walk to the bus centre in the town so they can guarantee to get a bus! The free bus pass given with the accommodation is only for a small sub-set of the buses in the city. Swansea has a great beach but this campus is miles away from it, unlike the Bay and Singleton campuses. Limited car parking, which was a nightmare on Day One when we had to unload our son's stuff. Air flow in the rooms is not great - seems to be on a super low setting. The cleaners don't clean the rooms, or the kitchens or even the shared corridors. It is expensive. The real kicker is that you will pay for the final term when, if they are like our son, will only be there for 4 days because the studying has finished in May!

Overall, our son still likes it here.

We're really glad to hear that your son has enjoyed his time at True Student Swansea and that the hotel-quality rooms, gym, friendly staff, and events have all made a positive impression. It's also lovely to hear that the corridor setup has helped him settle in and make new friends — that sense of community is something we work hard to create.

We take your concerns seriously and want to address them thoughtfully. The reliability of the bus service is something we know can be frustrating, and whilst this is largely outside of our direct control, we will continue to work with local providers and ensure residents are well informed about their transport options. We're sorry to hear the free bus pass didn't cover as wide a range of routes as expected — this is useful feedback and something we will look to communicate more clearly to residents and families ahead of move-in.

Regarding move-in day parking, we completely understand how stressful this can be when you have a car full of belongings, and we are always looking at ways to improve the move-in experience for families.

On cleaning — we're sorry if the standard of communal cleaning has not met expectations. Our team is responsible for maintaining communal areas and we will be reviewing this to ensure the right level of service is being delivered consistently.

The point about airflow in the rooms is also noted and will be passed on to our facilities team to review.

Finally, we understand the frustration around term-time billing, and we appreciate you raising it — we know this is a concern shared by many families and it's something we take on board. We create our tenancies to fit within the majority of student's university education timetables, but we understand that there are some courses which may finish slightly earlier than others. So although our tenancy dates try and accommodate the majority of students, we understand it's not a 'one size fits all' approach.

We're really pleased your son still enjoys living here, and we hope his remaining time with us continues to be a great experience. Thank you again for such thorough and constructive feedback!

We take all of the points you've raised seriously and would like to address each one:

Regarding the manager — we are sorry you have felt uncomfortable. This is not the experience we want any resident to have, and we would like to understand your concerns better so we can look into this properly.

On internet connectivity — we apologise for any disruption to the service in our study spaces and will ensure this is reviewed by our team as a priority.

With regard to daily cleaning — we understand that noise during cleaning can be disruptive, and we will look at how we can better manage the timing and communication around this to minimise any inconvenience to residents.

On the cleanliness of tables — this is not the standard we expect, and we apologise. We will address this with our housekeeping team immediately.

Regarding location and transport — we appreciate that these can be frustrating factors, and we're sorry the commute has been a challenge. We are always happy to share local transport tips that residents find helpful if that would be of use.

This accommodation is very comfortable and socially intriguing

All their events they’ve hosted so far since I moved in September have been really nice and enjoyable. I love the snacks and drinks too. J one my room and my kitchen, and my flatmates and the receptionists because everyone is so welcoming and kind. I really enjoy myself here!

Useless reception

People living here like to throw parties every night till the sunrises. The noise is so irritating. It is very useless to complain to the reception or anyone else. They will never solve the problem. Living in here you can never sleep at night.
