I think it is a little early to rate UIA on its core function which is to respond to any insurance claim I may need to make but in terms of its fees and flexible terms around the policy I have taken have been excellent.

Talked to agent on phone, they answered all my questions, very clear policies at reasonable cost. They don't appear to nit pick like other companies.
Everything about my Home Contents…
Everything about my Home Contents Insurance was done all "On Line" through my Union at work. (Unite, The Union).
It was quick, simple, straightforward and easy to understand. There was no contact with an Operator or sales person. The insurance documents arrived within a few days. Happy with the end result and premium quote. I will be happy to renew my insurance this time next year with the same insurance company. Thank You.

Avoid. Failed to refund my policy when they said they would
This company auto-renewed my policy when I had no idea they had done so, they contacted me by letter which was lost in post and when I asked for a refund as I had insured my house somewhere else they failed to provide one. I provided them with my active policy from another insurer as instructed, I wrote to them called them on several occasions to which they responded they had logged my issue but made no attempt to refund my premium.
I can't understand a business that fails to supply a resolution, so far it's been over 10 weeks. It's not complicated, it's a refund. I am left to make the assumption that this is a tactic to avoid refunds by stalling.
I was forced to seek a resolution via the FCA. Avoid.

Quick and Easy to get the insurance online, no ambiguous questions.
I was able to take the insurance on the day when we exchange contracts for a new property I purchased. The application process, questions regard to property details on the application are very clear do not need to call the company to clarify anything, specifically regard to the front door/door locks, not all the insurance companies have this much clarity.

Was insursed with UIA Home Insurance for 1 year had a burst pipe and the workmen they employed where cowboys! Thankfully i never renewed my policy and will never use UIA EVER EVER AGAIN!

Easy to transfer
Easy to transfer. Simple rules and nearly half the premiums of my previous house buildings and contents insurer who I'd thought were themselves good.
UIA Home Insurance - Worthless and unpleasant
UIA Home Insurance. Worthless - DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. -Plus they'd been hugely overcharging for 15 years (with no claims). My Claim;
1) 'Lost'the claim (if I hadn't chased and then re sent it, it would have been 'disappeared'- despite an email acknowledgement !
2) Delaying tactics, repeatedly
3) Denied responsibility, tried to shut claim
4) Disproved their nonsense, they then contradicted themselves, I pointed this out, they got defensive , angry, unpleasant and VERY unprofessional.
5) They made up an entirely new reason to deny the claim, I fought this.
6( They got extensive satellite footage of my house,(they didn't ask) deliberately misinterpreted what they saw ( in their favour). Found another idiot reason to reject, I fought on, they wore me down. with unpleasant American style tactics.
7) I gave up, the claim's only worth about a years premium, so the renewal came up and I told them to get stuffed! Then I found they'd been price gouging me for 15 years. I reinsured for 60 % less ! UIA must have been taken over by a very unpleasant grubby US insurer. Do not touch them with a barge pole!

Declined legitimate claim
All is easy when applying online for this insurance, things couldn't have gone any smoother. But wait until you need to make a claim then you'll learn things aren't so smooth. Refused my legitimate claim for storm damage in storm Arwen despite me being in an amber and on the edge of the red metoffice warning. Claim their records show over 10 miles away at weather station winds weren't high enough. Never heard anything so ridiculous as we were in a well reported storm with other damage all around. Having to go to the financial ombudsman and won't be renewing with UIA ever again!! Update 27/01/22 after sending out a surveyor from The Building Repair Network it has been agreed that this is indeed storm damage and UIA are honouring my claim. It must have cost them more to send a surveyor hundreds of miles to my home only to tell me what I already know than it will to repair. Unfortunately too many middle men as they've then subcontracted the work out to another builder. Fast forward 2 months and still waiting for repairs to even start. Absolutely shocking service.

A big thank you to UIA for handling a very personal, complex and unusual claim with empathy, which has now been settled completely to my enormous relief. A special thank you to Karen Seymour, Senior Claims Handler, for her personal involvement which was both efficient and compassionate. Suffice to say I have renewed my home insurance with UIA!

Policy errors and unhelpful telephone service
Set up home insurance plan on line, which was easy to do and priced competitively. But mistakes follow with policy documents with incorrect ownership names recorded and commencement date also wrong. Subsequently telephoned and spoke to an agent who was unhelpful and would not take instructions to amend or cancel unless he could speak to the first named policy holder.
