VIP price, but anything but a VIP Service
We booked this company because it advertises itself as a VIP travel service. We paid £240 for a return transfer from Cardiff to Bristol Airport, with a Mercedes V Class confirmed on our invoice.
The outward journey started poorly. The driver initially went to the wrong collection address, then had to drive back, causing an unnecessary delay at 3am. Although the Mercedes was provided, much of the journey was spent listening to uncomfortable personal details about the driver’s private life, which was not what we expected from a professional VIP service.
The return journey was far worse. While we were boarding our flight, we were told another driver would collect us, described as a “VIP upgrade”. On arrival, there was no Mercedes V Class. Instead, an Uber driver arrived in a scratched car with a damaged sunroof and flip-flops in the back. The company later admitted this was not an upgrade and did not meet what we had booked.
The replacement driver said he had been contacted the day before, contradicting the company’s explanation that the original driver had only just become unavailable. We were not informed of the change until boarding, leaving us with no practical alternative.
After landing, we went to the collection point we had been instructed to use, but the driver was elsewhere. We spent around 30 minutes outside the airport making 16 calls, sending messages and videos, and sharing my live location. The driver became aggressive and insisted we were in the wrong place, but it eventually became clear that he was waiting in the wrong location.
When we finally found him, he was wearing a hoodie and cap and explained that he was the original driver’s cousin. He also shared details about the school runs he needed to return for, which I found inappropriate to disclose to passengers.
We understand that genuine problems can occur, but we expected clear communication and a suitable replacement. Instead, we received conflicting information, an unsuitable vehicle, poor communication and a stressful airport collection.
Being offered £10 compensation initially felt insulting. This was later increased to a £60 refund, which we had to chase after it was not paid within the promised 24 hours.
We paid extra to avoid exactly this kind of stress. A damaged Uber being described as a VIP upgrade is unacceptable, and we would not use this company again.
