Great newspaper, terrible company

Great newspaper, terrible company. AS everyone else has said, they bait with a 'fair' price, then quickly convert you to an outrageous monthly bill and wont allow you to cancel, or make it extremely difficult to cancel. even cancelling before i was charged, they would not cancel or refund, only agreeing to stop future payments. Because they already had my billing date for today.

I Felt Cheated

I purchased the Wall Street Journal with MarketWatch and Barron's for 5 euro to get access to a few articles.

The cost of renewal each month shot up to approximately 19 euro after the first couple of renewals. It was 11 months before I realised The Wall Street Journal was chipping away at my savings.

I reached out to support to try to get a refund, I even suggested credit in good faith for a few months so they wouldn't need to payout.

Their response I received was cold and apathetic. I received a paragraph on The Wall Street Journal's company policies. There was no goodwill, problem solving or customer care involved.

"we acknowledge that our services may not have been utilized during the active period of your subscription"

"Subscriptions are based on the entitlement to access our services, rather than on actual usage."

I caution others to think twice before picking up The Wall Street Journal. They likely make a sizeable income from charging inactive accounts.

Too much MarketWatch clickbait -- why…

Too much MarketWatch clickbait -- why pay for a WSJ.com subscription and get inundated with another sites clickbait? And no way to stop it. At least on MSN.com you can block trash websites. And that's free. WSJ.com makes you pay for the trash. And no way to stop it.

Absolutely horrible company

Absolutely horrible company! They baited me in with a small fee to read an article and unknowingly I signed up for a very expensive subscription. Ridiculously expensive! I admitted to the supervisor I didn’t realize that I had signed up for the sub and asked if I could get any sort of refund as my situation financially is dire at the moment and any little bit would help! Even just one month back (I had the sub almost 2 years without knowing) I had tried to cancel before and kept getting an error on the last page. She said no. Company policy. No refunds at all. While I know they don’t “owe” me anything for taking their bait so long ago, it would have been a kind and helpful gesture to at least refund me 40$ of the over $700 I’d paid to them over the years without even wanting or using their news platform. A small amount of Simple customer care and showing compassion would have actually given them some chance at showing they’re a decent company with some scratch of ethics. Sadly, they’ve proven they’re not worthy of being called a decent company. Reader beware…

WSJ: Subscription R*pe

The way DJ runs its WSJ (Wall Street Journal) subscription plan is deceptive and downright sleazy. The teaser subscription price rolls over automatically into an insanely high subscription rate (for me it rolled into $52.99 a month subscription), which we attempted to cancel the very first day it renewed, however per their ToC you must cancel the subscription the day before it renews and they will not pro-rate the month. This is spelled out in a ToC you signed 13x months ago. Good luck remembering that. This is an unreasonable and purposefully deceptive practice designed to fit their business plan and model and recover the cost of their low teaser subscription all in the 13th month. This can all be avoided by 1) sending a courtesy email saying your introductory subscription is renewing at a new higher rate 2) allow customers to cancel auto-renewal on the day it renews, literally or 3) pro-rate the month and not force your subscription on customers who no longer want them. This is tantamount to a de-facto "subscription r*pe."

Nazism in action!!

They block all of my comments regardless of how innocuous they are, including "test", "I agree 100%" " "Not if you have unbiased integrity" etc etc

I signed up for a special offer of $1…

I signed up for a special offer of $1 dollar a week. Someway WSJ decided that I had two emails and started charging me $41.72 twice. They refuse to refund any money and stated their policy was to charge for both accounts.

One phone access, two accounts!!!

Customer service was trouble!!!

Price jumped from $4 to $42

Price jumped from $4 to $42, didn't realize and forgot. Thought I had already cancelled the subscription. They refused to refund anything at all despite never logging in for several months. Yes I know it's in the T&C's but only bad companies operate this way. I will never give them another dollar.

Never Received the Newspaper I Paid For

I subscribed to the Wall Street Journal print edition — and from the very beginning, I never received the correct newspaper. Instead, I kept getting a local paper (The Advocate) I never subscribed to.

I contacted WSJ customer service multiple times, spent time on the phone, and even provided video footage from my Ring camera showing the wrong paper being delivered. Still, nothing changed. Their only response? “At least you have the digital edition.” That’s not what I paid for.

I even reached out to The Advocate, who confirmed I’m not on their list — yet it keeps arriving. I eventually cancelled my subscription because no one could offer a real solution or refund.

I’m incredibly disappointed with this experience and the lack of accountability. If you’re considering WSJ for home delivery — think twice.

SUBSCRIBED FOR OVER FORTY YEARS

SUBSCRIBED FOR OVER FORTY YEARS. RECENTLY CANCELLED BECAUSE, EXCEPT FOR SOME REALLY GOOD COLUMNISTS, IT HAS BECOME A HAVEN FOR ANTI-TRUMP CUB REPORTERS AND 'WOKE' JOURNALISTS. I EXPECT WSJ TO BE SOLD SOON...

I had a 1 yr subscription to the Wall…

I had a 1 yr subscription to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). I could place delivery holds but only for 60 days. I put repeated holds over that last years and all of a sudden I was told my sub expired!?? But the reps I spoke to every 2 months told me I had extended my sub into the future! (I had about 9 months left of my year sub.) Dow Jones, will not budge. They are claiming all sorts of stuff that I didn't subscribe to (digital enhancements?!?) So they claim by sub is done. The reps I talked to every 2 months said otherwise.

Shame on you for ending my legitimate, 9 month, subscription to the WSJ. EVERY rep confirmed my sub every 2 months when I called and asked about it! Obviously Dow Jones does not stand behind what their employees tell their customers! BUYER BEWARE! HORRIBLE, SLEAZY company that doesn't stand behind their product?!? (And seriously, how hard would it be to continue my subscription that I SHOULD still have?!? Easy to appease the customer IMHO!)
I have already told over 100 people this story. Hopefully they will reconsider any involvement w/ this company!!!
ZERO STARS!

WSJ; How to cut off your nose to spite your face

The WSJ subscription was fine for the year at $15 monthly plus tax. The subscription ended on 5/5/25 and went to $70 per month plus tax, and I was billed before it could be canceled. I called in to see what could be done on 5/6/25, and the WSJ offered $299 per year ($24.92 per month), which was fine with me. I asked them to take off the $70 charge for the one day, and they would NOT (spoke to supervisory level), even though I was signing for a new yearly contract. I immediately canceled the entire subscription and will fight the $70 overcharge with my credit card company. I would not do business with the WSJ, Barrons, Marketwatch, and IBD again, and will NOT recommend this to anyone for their petty, sneaky tactics. If I could give this zero stars, I would. I will be calling the many people I recommended this subscription to and telling them to watch out for the WSJ self-destructive business practice....

Once promotion for your monthly…

Once promotion for your monthly subscription ends, it goes up to 20x and you call them to cancel. They will say no refund sorry. I don't think this is a good way to keep customer. I think it is not a good way to do business. Oh boi, I expected more from such a reputed company...

Just writing a review to inform UK…

Just writing a review to inform UK subscribers that there is indeed a cancellation option within the WSJ website, so you don't have to phone to cancel. Also, for added peace of mind just subscribe as I did with a virtual card which you can delete at the end of the subscription period.
With the bonkers US news and the great joining offer I thought I'd give it a try. No complaints so far, the WSJ looks very professional and comprehensive.

They are Bias

They are left leaning and their articles are often told from the opinion of the writer. Maybe a news company focused on business should have capitalists as writers....just a thought. I stop reading their articles after TDS swept through the company.

Disappointed in Dow Jones/WSJ

Unfortunately, Dow Jones/WSJ seems to be a bit shady when it comes to honoring their end of the deal with customers. They charged me $41 for a month, and two days later locked me out, asking for an additional subscription. Phone calls haven’t helped. Email responses are illegible with most lines only half visible. I am disappointed that WSJ is not living up to what was their good reputation.
