Please read this before deciding to insure your car with 123.ie / Intact Insurance.

I’m writing this review based entirely on my own experience, and I honestly wouldn’t wish what I’ve been through with this company on anyone.

I was a customer of 123.ie for several years and never expected to be treated like this.

Back in March, I was involved in a car accident that wasn’t my fault. After the accident, someone from 123.ie / Intact Insurance advised me to claim through my own insurance rather than through the insurance company of the person responsible. I was told it would be quicker to get everything sorted and that my no-claims bonus wouldn’t be affected.

I trusted their advice, which I now regret.

My car was assessed, and the other insurance company had already accepted liability, but for some reason 123.ie / Intact Insurance seemed to be doing very little to get the money back and close the claim.

Then, in late July, my insurance renewal arrived. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. They wanted nearly €2,000 if I paid by direct debit, or around €500 less if I paid the full amount upfront.

How does that make any sense when the accident wasn’t even my fault and the other insurance company had already accepted liability?

To me, it felt like I was being punished for something I had absolutely no control over.

Obviously, I decided to get my insurance elsewhere. But that’s when another nightmare started.

I needed my no-claims bonus confirmation showing my previous insurance history and claims record. Instead of getting a proper answer, I kept being passed from one person or department to another.

Every time I contacted them, I was told the same thing: my claim was still open, they were dealing with the other insurance company, and everything would be sorted soon.

But nobody could explain why it was taking so long, especially when my car had already been assessed and the other insurance company had accepted liability months before.

I contacted them so many times that I lost count. I even wrote to their complaints department because I was getting nowhere. I also raised concerns about how my personal information was being handled, but I still couldn’t get the clear answers I was asking for.

Even my solicitor said the way they were handling this was very unprofessional.

And what really makes me wonder is what would have happened if the accident had actually been my fault, or if I didn’t have a solicitor helping me.

People pay insurance for peace of mind, not to spend months chasing answers, worrying about their no-claims bonus and trying to sort out problems that shouldn’t even exist.

I can’t explain how much time, energy and stress this whole situation has caused me. I’ve had sleepless nights over something that should have been dealt with properly from the beginning.

After being their customer for years, I honestly expected better.

I’m sharing my experience because I think other people should know what they might be dealing with if something goes wrong.

My advice is to think very carefully before choosing 123.ie / Intact Insurance. Everything might seem fine until you actually need their help.

As for me, I will never go back to this company again. They’ve completely lost my trust

I had a house fire on 7th July, my husband passed away on 2nd August and I am still waiting on settlement. My car insurance was due for renewal on 20th October n your underwriters refused to renew even though I was with you for previous 2 years.

Car insurance quotes considerably higher than found elsewhere and not willing to match for a long time cuatomer. A pity as their other products are ok.
