Rude
Rude , stuck up people I paid £200 package with spa break , which involved a treatment I picked a facial they refused treatment as I had a nose job 7 weeks ago they offered no alternative treatment and then proceeded to whisper about me the manager came out and said “ what my staff is saying is correct - at no point did I dispute she was wrong I just wanted I refund , the stuck up lady in the cafe the dirty looks , the place is a shit hole looks like a care home food is absolutely foul
They need a refurb and to tell their staff to treat people how they want to be treated stuck up little village people that look down on others
Very disappointing stay – poor value dining, extra hidden costs, and run-down facilities
I recently visited Champneys expecting the premium spa experience they are known for, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations.
The biggest disappointment was the lunch. While I appreciate efforts to reduce food waste by moving away from the buffet model, the current credit setup feels like poor value for money. The dining credit barely covers a basic meal. Mains are priced around £14.50 without any sides included, and desserts are £7.25. Once you pay extra for basic accompaniments, add drinks (which aren't included), and pay the added service charge, you end up paying significant hidden costs on top of an already expensive package. Having to pay extra just to get a complete lunch completely ruins the relaxing, premium feel.
To make matters worse, the spa facilities themselves are feeling increasingly tired and run down. During my visit, multiple showers were out of service, and there was visible plaster peeling off the walls.
It feels as though standards have dropped while prices and extra charges have gone up. I hope management takes steps to address both the menu value and the physical maintenance of the facilities, but based on this experience, I wouldn't return.

Appalling customer service & Health & Safety
I stayed at Tring Resort. The Pool side was slippery and someone collided with me near the steps.
The bath was very slippery and almost had serious accident. Walls in restaurant dirty and floor outside bedroom on first floor had hoover fly infestation. I had faulty safe and waited an hour and a half for service. No staff present in reception to book check out. I was told to leave by management after being loyal customer for over 10 years!

⭐️ **Very disappointing massage experience at Champneys Henlow**
Sadly, the massage I received was to a very poor standard. I have had many massages in the past, including proper Swedish massages, so I know what I have previously experienced when a treatment is described as a full-body Swedish massage.
This treatment felt like little more than oil being rubbed over me, with only half the arms and legs receiving attention. Despite repeatedly asking the masseuse to apply more pressure, my requests seemed to fall on deaf ears.
What made matters worse was the response from the manager, Charlotte Richards. I raised my concerns, but felt they were simply brushed under the carpet rather than taken seriously.
For the prices Champneys charges, I expected a far higher standard of treatment and customer service. Unfortunately, I left feeling extremely disappointed and feel that the treatment I received did not represent the service I paid for. I certainly won’t be returning for another massage at Champneys Henlow.
Soo disappointed
My friend and I went for a spa day last week. It was a birthday treat and we love using the plunge pool and main pool. The highlight of the day usually is the lovely buffet lunch where you can enjoy some beautifully prepared healthy food. About a day before we went I got an email saying the restaurant had made some changes. There was also a festival in the grounds and we would have to use another entrance but it wouldn't be a problem. We had managed to take advantage of a special offer so were not too worried. We arrived and usually a complimentary breakfast is offered of mini pastries, fruit and yoghurt. Nothing was offered which we thought was odd, but booked our slot for lunch. Having spent a bit of time in the car getting lost trying to find the alternative entrance we went for a coffee. The coffee shop was nice and we sat outside, but the view was spoiled by the rows of glamping tents! We went to the plunge pool and were disappointed to find the indoor hot tub was shut. Then we went for lunch which was a huge disappointment. Gone is the lovely healthy buffet. In its place a fixed menu with an allowance of £16.50 . The menu is quite limited and we felt there wasn't really much we wanted to order. The dining room is usually full but there were hardly any guests dining, which speaks volumes.
Very disappointing. The facilities are very dated and in need of some maintenance, but in the past you would overlook that, given the buffet lunch and the lovely grounds.
Sadly, I will be looking elsewhere for a spa day.
Eastwell Manor is a beautiful location.
Eastwell Manor is a beautiful location with stunning views across the surrounding countryside, but unfortunately, our experience did not live up to the reputation we had expected from a Champneys hotel.
The service was disappointing throughout, and there was a sense that the hotel had lost some of the character and soul one would expect from a property of this calibre. Our meal was also underwhelming and, in our view, significantly overpriced. The wines were similarly expensive without offering the quality or value we expected.
Our room was tired and in need of attention, with poor-quality pillows and a noticeably sagging mattress, which made for an uncomfortable night’s sleep.
Overall, this was a disappointing experience and certainly not what we anticipated from Champneys. Sadly, we would not return or recommend the hotel. The lack of atmosphere during our stay, with the bar, restaurant and hotel appearing unusually quiet, only added to our sense that other guests may be reaching a similar conclusion.
Good luck getting through to customer service, & if you do-expect to be disappointed by the service you receive!
I find it hard to believe in this day and age that it's so hard to get through to customer service at Champneys. This isn't a one off, it has been every single occasion over the years!
Previously no one has answered when I've called-I've sat on hold for over an hour, several times over, before giving up. After around 30 minutes of holding yesterday, I was surprised and pleased to actually speak to a human-but quickly became disappointed at how uninterested she seemed and not exactly rude but certainly not friendly and not someone I would expect to work in customer service! Their app and website aren't very user friendly either. I felt compelled to write this review following my experience yesterday (& my Daughter having a similar experience recently. She couldn't get through to customer service by phone and got no reply to her email!).
Always a stressful, rubbish experience! Ironic, given they're a long established, health and wellness entity Sort your ops out Champneys!
Very disappointing experience – not what we expected from Champneys
My partner and I booked a spa evening at Champneys Tring after having a good experience at another Champneys, so we were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, this visit was very disappointing.
When we arrived, the hot tub in the relaxation area was out of use. We went in and used the water beds, but about 5 minutes later we were asked to leave the whole area because the hot tub was being maintained. There were no signs to say the area was closed and the water beds weren’t affected, so this was frustrating.
The main hot tub was also out of use with no prior warning. This left the remaining facilities very busy and there were very few beds available to relax on.
There were also no clean towels in the changing rooms and we had to ask several times. The showers were either extremely cold in the female changing rooms or excessively hot in the male changing rooms, with no way to adjust them properly.
Then, during our evening, there was a fire alarm and we were outside for around 30 minutes. The staff were actually very nice and apologetic, and we appreciate that the fire alarm wasn’t their fault. Unfortunately, it meant our food was delayed, we didn’t finish our meal as staff were already packing up around us, and we didn’t get the chance to go back into the spa afterwards. We ended up losing a huge part of the evening we had paid for.
We complained to Champneys afterwards and were offered 50% off another visit. We didn’t feel this was a fair resolution as we’d have to spend more money to return after an experience that had already been so heavily disrupted. We asked if they would consider a 50% refund or a complimentary return visit, but this was declined.
It’s a shame as we chose Tring because we’d previously enjoyed another Champneys site. Unfortunately, the facilities at Tring also felt quite tired and in need of a refresh, particularly considering the price.
Overall we left feeling very disappointed and that we hadn’t received the experience we’d paid for.
An appalling company rang about 10…
An appalling company rang about 10 times over the past two days, was on hold each time for around 15 minutes on each occasion. Champneys sort out you call centre. Finally given up.
Not worth the Money!
Disappointing experience for the price
I recently stayed for one night at Champneys Tring and paid around £500, which included the room, breakfast, lunch, dinner and a facial. Given the price point and Champneys’ reputation, I expected a much higher standard throughout the property.
Unfortunately, the whole place felt tired and in need of a significant refurbishment.
The jacuzzi area was particularly disappointing. The metal railings were visibly rusty, and many of the water beds were ripped and looked worn. These are not the sort of details I would expect to see at a premium spa charging £500 for an overnight stay.
The bedroom bathroom was also showing its age, with tiles that were in poor condition. Again, for the price being charged, I would expect the facilities to be maintained to a much higher standard.
Breakfast was another disappointment. The choice felt limited, and the tables were tiny and cramped. I was particularly surprised that there were no baked beans or fried eggs available — very basic breakfast options that I would expect to find at a hotel of this price and standard. There was also no chef cooking at a counter or offering freshly prepared options, which I would have expected given the overall cost of the stay.
Lunch and dinner were equally underwhelming. The portions and food allowance felt very restrictive — more reminiscent of school meals than what I would expect from a £500 spa break. I appreciate that menus change, but the overall offering felt like cost-cutting rather than a premium dining experience. Fish and chips, for example, would be a perfectly reasonable addition to the lunch menu.
I have also looked at the company’s publicly available accounts, which appear to show a substantial loss. I appreciate there may be wider financial reasons for this and that I cannot comment on the company’s internal decisions. However, given the apparent charges against the estate and the possibility that investment has been funded elsewhere within the business, I was surprised that Champneys Tring itself appears to have been left looking so tired and dated.
To be clear, I am not expecting everything to be brand new, but when you are paying around £500 for one night, you expect the facilities, food and overall experience to feel premium. Unfortunately, I left feeling that the price was far too high for what was provided.
There are undoubtedly some positives — the setting is lovely and the concept of the spa break is appealing — but the property now needs substantial investment and refurbishment to justify its prices.
At £500 for one night, I expected considerably more.
Appalling on every level.
Booked form our 25th wedding anniversary celebration at Eastwell Manor, was told on the phone there wasn't an event being held that day. When we turned up there was a wedding in progress and we were sent to the spa area for our lunch, where there were people sitting around in bathrobes and a man without a shirt on. We had a gift voucher to spend and quite frankly didn't want to spend it having a sandwich when we had booked for lunch at the manor house. Didn't stop to eat, spoke to a manager Rebecca, who said she had to speak to the hotel manager to try to sort something out. Completely ruined our day, never heard from Rebecca, even after I emailed her and then rang to speak to her and was told she was in a meeting and that she would ring back, she never has, so I emailed the hotel manager, never heard from him either, rang Champneys was advised to email the general manager, haven't heard back from him either. I guess they deal with complaints by ignoring them, totally unimpressed. Complete disrespect for the customer.
Do they want customers?
I tried to contact the Reservation by phone. Waited 15 minutes listening publicity and hung up. I tried calling Henlow hotel - no reply.
Very Disappointed experience
An expensive few nights at Henlow, run down rooms, paint peeling off ceilings, rotten window frames. You pay all inclusive and get charged a premium at mealtime ! Probably our 20th visit over the years But sadly our last, shocking experience.
Kylie was wonderful
I stayed at Champneys Springs in May 2026 to celebrate my 60th birthday, and I truly had a wonderful time. This resort is like a second home to me, and I am always so happy to spend my time here. I am incredibly grateful that the team is always kind enough to let me choose my preferred room whenever I book.
I did experience a few issues with my room upon arrival, including a coffee machine that was bit dirty and a few other areas that could have been a bit cleaner and working properly. However, the staff sorted everything out remarkably quickly.
A huge, heartfelt thank you goes to Kylie, who was absolutely brilliant and so incredibly kind to me. To help resolve the room issues, the team left some lovely extra toiletries (shampoo, body wash, etc.) in my room and even gave me a little extra perk to use on my next visit.
To make my 60th birthday feel extra special, the team also surprised me with a beautiful fruit platter and chocolates that said "Happy 60th" on it—which was such a lovely, thoughtful touch!
If I had to find any negatives, I only wish that the main swimming pool and the Jacuzzi were kept a little bit warmer, as I often find them a bit on the cold side when I visit and many others have also mentioned this to me.
That being said, I absolutely love this place. Because of the wonderful hospitality from the team, I will am returning again this November 2026 !
No Luxury found at Champneys!
Couldn’t agree more with the previous review.
To feel like you want to go home after a few hours sums up Champneys Tring. The warning signs should have been the difficulty trying to contact them beforehand. Instead we went ahead and what we expected from a supposedly 5 star £568 overnight stay was far from what we experienced.
Room
- dated and lots of broken fixtures/poor repair work ie. No toilet roll holder, ripped net curtain, broken outside table, light fixture's moved with lack of repair to old holes.
- no aircon in room
- no hair dryer in room
- litter on our small terrace area.
Hotel and Spa
- mouldy sun lounger cushions
- over crowded spa facilities that were not inviting.
- towels left absolutely everywhere
- ripped cover to water bed
- no staff cleaning or tidying the spa but lots of maintenance staff mooching about especially the two drilling on the roof of the cafe!
- we decided not to use the facilities as it was far too busy and not inviting at all.
Restaurant
- cobwebs all over the windows in the bottom half of the restaurant with a collection of flies caught in them, made us feel quite ill as we only made the discovery at the end of our lunch!
- foil found in one of our drinks. There was no foil on my glass bottle of drink! The waitress just stared into the glass for a quite a while wondering how to deal with it. Decided to take the drink off of our bill.
Massage
- massage treatment was good but the process between the reception and therapist at your assigned appt time is broken. This led to a 15 minute delay with my appt.
- the route to the treatment room upstairs was far from luxury.
- used water cup folded up where I was asked to sit and and sign the consent form.
Very disappointing and definitely not a 5 star hotel and spa. Avoid!
Absolutely shocking experience at the famous Champneys Tring
Absolutely shocking experience – 0/10
I was really looking forward to my first visit to Champneys Tring, having received a £200 gift voucher from my husband a year ago. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing and upsetting.
From the moment we arrived, there were red flags: empty water dispensers, overcrowded and dirty changing rooms, no toilet roll, broken showers and cracked tiles. The treatment itself was lovely, but everything afterwards went downhill.
During our meal, I bit into a piece of flatbread and found a sharp shard of crockery in my food, which cut my mouth. The café deputy manager took a photo and removed the item, but despite this serious incident, there was no meaningful follow-up.
The spa facilities were equally disappointing — a lukewarm pool with broken pumps, showers out of order, mess throughout, and dirty water beds. Then, in the outdoor jacuzzi, I felt a sharp scratch and pulled out another broken piece of tile from the pool.
What shocked me most was the complete lack of staff presence and ownership. When I eventually went to reception to complain, I was essentially handed a card and told to contact head office. I was promised a call the following morning, but two days later I am still waiting.
For somewhere with such a strong reputation, this was completely unacceptable. What was meant to be a relaxing evening with my sister became an extremely upsetting experience. I genuinely cannot understand how these facilities are considered acceptable or safe for guests.
0/10. Extremely disappointing and certainly not the luxury experience I was expecting from Champneys.
See you soon!
For Champneys Springs: My mother and I have been coming for years and now take full advantage of the return rates. We love it here, the staff are all very friendly and each time we return, it’s so nice to be greeted by the same faces (they’re clearly happy and well looked after).
My only grumble would be for the “no phones” signs to be back in situ - I feel it loses its relaxed feel with so many people playing videos, answering calls etc when people are not there for that. This was the first time we have been (in 20years) where I have not seen the signs and it made a huge difference.
Restaurant and food was outstanding this time, the best it’s been. See you next year!
Amazing spa day
My mum and myself had a lovely spa day. We also had a complimentary clarins facial with Amy. Amy was professional friendly and the facial was absolutely lovely and made our day so special.
Very disappointing experience at…
Very disappointing experience at Champneys Forest Mere. What was meant to be a special mother-and-daughter stay for my daughter’s 18th birthday was unfortunately let down by poor customer service and an unwelcoming experience.
I contacted Champneys afterwards to raise my concerns, but over a week later I have received no response or even acknowledgement.
Not the level of service I would expect from a luxury spa. Sadly, we left feeling very disappointed.
Disappointing stay
Disappointing stay at the Tring Champneys. I’m afraid to say the place has gone downhill in a year. The sun loungers are filthy the outdoor tables are filthy the woodwork is filthy. The sun canopy over the outdoor jacuzzi was no more ? . We now get a £16 food allowance for lunch and a £30 allowance gor evening meal. It seemed everyone is working out there food allowance with a phone calculato , quite stressful . The Staff are incredible very polite and attentive it’s a shame the management let them down. They also need more staff. We couldn’t get a drink after 9.30 as there was no staff to serve it. The Fire Alarm went off AGAIN and everyone was evacuated we had to leave our food and leave the building for 45 mins. No real apology apart from the lovely staff. The management need to get their act together not sure I’ll be back also PLEASE answer your phones !
