Creative Camperz pop top roof
Booked my van in for a pop top 7 weeks in advance. Arrived to have had no notice that they had no roof available. Not one message to let me know to rebook or otherwise, so drove 2.5 hours and paid for train fare home and for return to pick van up following day (but no roof available - supplier issue I was told).
I was happy to leave my van with them and trusted that it would be done by the end of the week. It wasn’t and was given reasons as to why it was not done. Again, I’m a patient person and trusted the owner that it would be done the following week, it wasn’t. As a good will gesture, which was very appreciated and he didn’t have to do, he knocked off £250.
I was ensured it would be done the following week.it was nearly four weeks. Again, I was patient and eventually attended to pick it up.
I was impressed with the roof. Looked good, middle of the road pricing and worth the wait in my view.
Unfortunately, I returned to a van with none of my rear electrics working at all. The owner, Scott said that the dash had lit up like a Christmas tree and that I had left them the van with these issues. I did not. I would never have driven it with those issues as it was not road worthy and was illegal to drive.
The battery went flat to the point they had to jump it every time it needed to be moved. This was a problem that had been caused by a major electrical fault. This was evident by having no brake or reverse lights, no indicators, no reverse sensors, no reverse camera.
It was blamed on a dodgy wiring loom - this was not the case. The loom is in the same place as every VW T5. This was acknowledged, the presence of the loom, when I was told that the LED spots I ordered were not installed due to the ‘dodgy loom’ and not wanting to drill into it (as the loom was covered by frame and carpet as ordered.
I did ring Scott, but essentially tried to blame me for all the issues.
Unsafe wiring and refused to rectify — cost me £273.65 to correct. I used Creative Camperz out of all the available companies, to do my pop top roof. I chose to spend my earned money with them.
Unfortunately, the roof work carried out was unsafe, due to a large fixing screw being drilled through the centre of the wiring loom causing a complete failure of the rear brake and parking lights and leaving the vehicle unroadworthy.
When notified of the faults, the owner refused to rectify the dangerous wiring.
To make the vehicle legal and safe to drive, I had to employ an independent professional auto electrician who diagnosed and corrected the defective installation at a cost of £273.65.The owner has refused to reimburse me for these repair costs and dismissed a formal Letter Before Action with mocking messages.
Legal proceedings have now been initiated through the small claims court to recover the money. Prospective customers should be aware of the lack of aftercare and professional responsibility. Disappointed as this is not how I would expect a company to treat a customer when it’s their workmanship that has caused such a catastrophic fault and refuses to acknowledge fault even when presented with the facts.
