Uncaring and unprofessional..

2 years of treatment and all I can say is this uncaring outfit are only interested in squeezing every patient for profit..
Very unhappy and so pleased I’ve found a genuine caring dentist in Cambridge to continue my treatment and restoration.
Shame on you Devonshire House & Riverdale the holding company..

Top notch wisdom tooth removal

Had a wisdom tooth removed surgically during covid. Had such a thorough treatment - scans were done in advance to make sure the nerve wasn't too close, and the sedation was done amazingly well. Was so nervous and told by nos dentists I couldn't have the tooth removed due to the nerve, despite it getting repeatedly infected. There was nothing to worry about in their hands and will certainly use again!

Very bad service, irresponsible.

I came to this practice for treatment with endodontist Dr. Smolwood in 2016/2017. My tooth was poorly treated by Dr. Antunes from Regent Practice. I came to her for advice on the treatment and prospects of the tooth survival. During consultation with Dr. Smolwood recommended that she can fix the tooth using some materials. Her treatment plan also included putting a crown on the tooth. She advised that this will be sufficient to repair the job done by Dr. Antunes.
She did not indicate that there is very poor chance her treatment with materials would not work. She put in place treatment plan that did not included any potential implant nor extraction. She called in to the office another dentist to advice about putting a crown after her treatment. Dr. Antunes used her treatment plan as a full cost of fixing his poor work. Dr. Smolwood did not indicate that her treatment has poor chance of working. I would never agree to such treatment. I was scammed out of compensation that I should get because Dr. Smolwood proposed totally incorrect treatment plan. Shortly after her procedure, the tooth started falling apart. She recommended washing my teeth with Cortisol which made all my teeth black. She sent me to Eastman Hospital in London to get further help to save the tooth that should be taken out right way and prepared for an implant. I was pushed into totally wrong treatment plan by Devonshire dentist.
I contacted Devonshire practice for refund in 2023. I asked them for refund of the money for the treatment that should never be done. They fail to cooperate with my request. After several weeks of waiting, practice manager responded to me that the matter is out of her jurisdiction because I reported the case to General Medical Council.
The practice refuses to refund the money and ignores my complaint and fails to refund the money.
I suffer trauma after using their service. Their treatment plan was used by Regent Practice to scam me out of my compensation. Dr. Smolwood recommended treatment that did not work, I was left with tooth that was falling apart in my gum and was left with black teeth after using Cortisol for mouth washes. I had to go two times to dental hygienist to clean my teeth after Devonshire recommenced Cortisol washes. Normally, dentist recommends simply wash using warm water with salt.
Absolutely unacceptable service that is irresponsible. They recommend treatment that should not be done thus wasting my time.
They caused unnecessary distress. I made complaints to Devonshire Practice to recover money from them. They refuse to cooperate. The Manager wrote to me that General Dental Council would investigate if refund should be issued. But, this is not within the remit of General Dental Council to decide on refund of the costs of treatment.
I wasted time, money and got scammed out of compensation following wrong advise on treatment from Dr. Smallwood. She did not advise that her treatment has poor chance of success, she did not include in her treatment plan the cost of an implant.
This matter has caused me many damages and continuous to cause great distress.
I am in the process of identifying the owner to recover my money from them.

Inefficient, Incompetent & Takes no Post-Surgical Interest in Patients

I underwent an expensive root-canal treatment during 2015-6 under endodontist Elisabeth Smallwood at Devonshire House Dental Practice in Cambridge. Dr Smallwood refused, despite numerous requests via email, to check her work after completion, once the tooth has had time to settle. She has no interest in follow-up appointments whatsoever. Had I known, I would have been treated by Dr Julian Webber in London, who guarantees his work for the lifetime of the tooth. Dr Smallwood knows Dr Webber but refuses to follow his excellent clinical practice in this regard.

Dr Smallwood further referred me to any hygienist at Devonshire House Dental Practice for minor root-planing on another tooth which had become partially detached from the gum. After waiting several months for this appointment, the hygienist stated that she did not perform root-planing, despite reading my patient notes and dental images. This delayed treatment of a detaching gum. So this clinic has one practitioner recommending another who has no knowledge of the suggested procedure: unprofessional and potentially negligent.

After this I requested a copy of my patient notes for my home dental records. Despite having my home address and email, either of which would have sufficed, the admin at Devonshire House Dental Practice sent them via the postal service without any franking or stamp. This necessitated an inconvenient journey to my postal sorting office to find out what had happened. I then had to pay a fine of over £2 to collect.

My conclusion is that this highly self-touted dental practice is inefficient, incompetent and takes no interest in patients, despite their appeals, after principal treatment.
