Our company has been purchasing from Digikey for many years. We mostly purchase components for R&D purposes but they are very handy for back-up inventory too. The website is one of the best I've used. You can select your preferred currency on the fly or set as default. Their customer service is excellent and delivery is very quick on stocked items. Would definitely recommend.

This is a com.au website and shows the Australian Flag to reassure you that it is set to Australia. Beware! - Its default is $USD and it shows only '$' so you are none the wiser. I purchased from Digikey last year and it defaulted to $AUD. Now, only AFTER making payment does the purchase process reveal for the first time that all values are in $USD.
Digikey have chosen to make this deceitful change.

This site is dodgy as, even though it's digikey.com.au and set currency to AUD somehow going through the check out it changed to USD and charge almost double the price and customers service is soo bad, the worst I ever come across, back and forth email with no solution and every reply is different person, please save yourself the hassle and avoid this site/company

First Don't pretend to be an Australian company.
This is Ebay for electronics, and at least Ebay or Alibaba knows what they are doing, they will give you all price including import duty, insurance, etc. quote. Shipping is mostly handled by suppliers, and they decide the incoterms and when you contact Digi key, they have no idea what the cost are associated with it. Prefer element14, mouser or Rs component- at least you get better customer service.

Purchased a single sensor from them as they had the item in stock in reasonable quantity at a reasonable price (more expensive than manufacturer but fast shipping). Received item promptly, but it was defective (DOA) on testing and would require RMA.

Contact their support team to organise a replacement. They forward my concern to the manufacturer representative. Haven't even heard a peep from this person.

They gave me the troubleshooting run around, even though the issue is a common defect with the product, as reported multiple times on the discussion board with the manufactuer.

Almost 4 weeks later have not got a reasonable response about a return or replacement. Now filing a formal consumer complaint to try and recoup my costs.

I was even able to order another unit from a competitor during this period of time and it arrived working without fault.

Ordered a tool on Friday in Australia. Was posted the same day from the USA and it arrived on the Monday. Super quick service and the tool is exactly what it stated. Couldn't believe how quick it arrived. It was approx $105AUD and I paid GST of 10% on it at the time of purchase so cost approx $115AUD in total for a tool that is $200 in store here.

This is not an Australian business. Even though they advertise prices in AUD you will actually be transacting with a .com business.

Which is Ok if you know because your then exposed to GST and Duty (depending on where stuff shipped from) and international freight charges which Im sure you all know can be more that the cost of the components your ordering.

Then there's the first time user issues..."Send us a copy of your passport or drivers license by FAX....or any other 19th century technology involving steam and carrier pigeons"

Excuse me I wrote...if I use PayPal will I have to provide all this documentation that allows you to commit identity fraud on me?

cleverly they told me that if I wanted to use PayPal Id have to cancel the current order and start a new one..... What an answer that was!.....to a question I didnt even ask.....

I gave up, I subsequently ordered from a business in AU that was using a .com.au website and I didnt have to provide all my birth certificates etc and I didnt have to pay more than the advertised price and I didnt have to pay a hidden GST and I didnt have to pay duty and I didnt have to pay freight if I wanted to pay using EFT to Westpac

All in all just too hard to deal with for prices that are not the bottom line by the time you get them.

What a waste of my time and effort!!!
